The gradual decline of the Blzers may lead to a total overhaul. This seeaon's salaries of $86.6 million will drop to $32.7 as Sheed Wallace, Dale Davis, Wes Person, Shawn Kemp, and Sabonis come off contract. Davis may return at a much smaller contract but no one really expects Wallace to return to the troubled Blazers.
Wallace has been subject to innumerable trade rumors, but none that were more inticing than removing $17 million from the Blazer's payroll. But while Wallace is high demand right now, his market value this summer may not be very high.
The unspoken truth is that none of the teams with cap space are not going to give him anything like what he has been receiving. The Jazz are extremely unlikely to bid on someone with his background. The Clippers rarely make serious bids except on their own RFA's. tHE Spurs have no need for what Wallace does and are likely to use their space on Manu.
This means that for Sheed Wallace to get more than mid cap, (unless he re-signs with the Blazers) the only teams with the purchasing power will be the Nuggets and the Suns.
The Nuggests would seem to be his best bet. They could use the money they paid Camby and still be as much as $14-15 million under cap.
The Colangelos have said they aren't interested in a trade. It has generally been assumed this also means free agency, but it is hard to know if that would change if the price was right.
The consensus seems to be that Sheed could be a major locker room disruption. I'm not sure he would be worth it, but perhaps at the right price?
