Nothing.
Love is a really good player and a stat stuffer, but he has never taken his team to the playoffs if you are to be considered a top 5 player in the league I think in your 5+ years in the league you would get your team to the playoffs at least once. He doesn't make this team a championship caliber team and I wouldn't give up a bunch of future assets for anyone that does not make us a championship contender.
Basketball is a team sport. The west has been insanely loaded over Love's career and he's been in an organization that's had an amazingly dismal front office. The Wolves have been especially horrid drafters. Since landing Love, lets see who they drafted and who they could've had:
2008 2nd Round: Nikola Pekovic, good pick. Other players available: Omer Asik, Goran Dragic, DeAndre Jordan.
2009 1st Round: 5th Ricky Rubio, 6th Johnny Flynn. Flynn was a total bust, Rubio is on pace to perhaps be the worst shooter in modern NBA history but does some other things well (passing, stealing).
They could've had Steph Curry, DeMar Derozan, Jrue Holliday, Darren Collison, Taj Gibson, Jeff Teague, DeJuan Blair, Patty Mills or Chase Budinger. All would've been better than Flynn, some would be better than Rubio.
2010 1st Round: 4th Wes Johnson. They could have had Paul George, Boogie Cousins, Gordon Hayward, Larry Sanders!, Eric Bledsoe, Avery Bradley, Landry Fields or Jeremy Lin.
2011 1st Round: 2nd. Derrick Williams. They could've had Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Marcus Morris, Markieff Morris, Kawhi Leonard, Iman Shumpert, Kenneth Faried, MarShon Brooks, Jimmy Butler, Isiah Thomas or Chandler Parsons.
2012 1st Round: Didn't have a 1st round pick, but both the picks that ended up being 10 and 18 were there's at one point. It was a weak draft and it's too early to say who the best mid/late picks are from it, but in the 10-18 range you hope to get a guy who has a NBA career.
Now obviously, if they would've hit on their picks more they would've won more and thus not had those picks. So we
can't say they could've had a lineup like:
C DeAndre Jordan
PF K Love
SF Paul George
SG Klay Thompson
PG Steph Curry
^ that team would be a contender. But obviously, thats not possible.
But for the sake of argument, lets say the Wolves take the 3rd best player of those they passed on in each of those drafts. Their roster is:
C Taj Gibson/N. Pekovic (Gibson is more PF, but they could rotate)
PF Kevin Love
SF Kawhi Leonard
SG Gordon Hayward
PG Jrue Holiday
Don't you think that's a better starting 5 than what they roll out? They missed repeatedly, in relatively solid drafts. It's not like they passed on 1 guy that everyone is mad about missing on. In each draft there were multiple players better than the guys they took! In the above lineup I'm not even picking the very top guys they missed on.
Kevin Love is a stat stuffer, he's also a really good player, surrounded by junk, playing for a terrible organization in an insanely deep conference. If he was in the East or had even a little help, he would've been to the playoffs already.
