Nothing.

Love is a really good player and a stat stuffer, but he has never taken his team to the playoffs if you are to be considered a top 5 player in the league I think in your 5+ years in the league you would get your team to the playoffs at least once. He doesn't make this team a championship caliber team and I wouldn't give up a bunch of future assets for anyone that does not make us a championship contender.

I am neutral on Love. But Goran Dragic has shown this year that he could take us to being a championship calibre team.

But he and the team need a consistent scorer and rebounder in the front court. That is why we need Love or another veteran like him.

Basketball is a team sport. The west has been insanely loaded over Love's career and he's been in an organization that's had an amazingly dismal front office. The Wolves have been especially horrid drafters. Since landing Love, lets see who they drafted and who they could've had:

2008 2nd Round: Nikola Pekovic, good pick. Other players available: Omer Asik, Goran Dragic, DeAndre Jordan.

2009 1st Round: 5th Ricky Rubio, 6th Johnny Flynn. Flynn was a total bust, Rubio is on pace to perhaps be the worst shooter in modern NBA history but does some other things well (passing, stealing).

They could've had Steph Curry, DeMar Derozan, Jrue Holliday, Darren Collison, Taj Gibson, Jeff Teague, DeJuan Blair, Patty Mills or Chase Budinger. All would've been better than Flynn, some would be better than Rubio.

2010 1st Round: 4th Wes Johnson. They could have had Paul George, Boogie Cousins, Gordon Hayward, Larry Sanders!, Eric Bledsoe, Avery Bradley, Landry Fields or Jeremy Lin.

2011 1st Round: 2nd. Derrick Williams. They could've had Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Marcus Morris, Markieff Morris, Kawhi Leonard, Iman Shumpert, Kenneth Faried, MarShon Brooks, Jimmy Butler, Isiah Thomas or Chandler Parsons.

2012 1st Round: Didn't have a 1st round pick, but both the picks that ended up being 10 and 18 were there's at one point. It was a weak draft and it's too early to say who the best mid/late picks are from it, but in the 10-18 range you hope to get a guy who has a NBA career.

Now obviously, if they would've hit on their picks more they would've won more and thus not had those picks. So we can't say they could've had a lineup like:

C DeAndre Jordan
PF K Love
SF Paul George
SG Klay Thompson
PG Steph Curry

^ that team would be a contender. But obviously, thats not possible.

But for the sake of argument, lets say the Wolves take the 3rd best player of those they passed on in each of those drafts. Their roster is:

C Taj Gibson/N. Pekovic (Gibson is more PF, but they could rotate)
PF Kevin Love
SF Kawhi Leonard
SG Gordon Hayward
PG Jrue Holiday

Don't you think that's a better starting 5 than what they roll out? They missed repeatedly, in relatively solid drafts. It's not like they passed on 1 guy that everyone is mad about missing on. In each draft there were multiple players better than the guys they took! In the above lineup I'm not even picking the very top guys they missed on.

Kevin Love is a stat stuffer, he's also a really good player, surrounded by junk, playing for a terrible organization in an insanely deep conference. If he was in the East or had even a little help, he would've been to the playoffs already.

I'm going to watch some game-film of Greg Monroe soon, though he's restricted but I don't like the idea of Trading too many assets for a player I'm not too high on (my Kevin Love offer). Not the scorer Love is but nearly matches him in REB, AST, STL, BLK - Monroe scores 15 PTS but with less shots. It's still my opinion that Love needs Lots of touches and neither are great defenders, but Monroe would be easier to Trade for.

Greg Monroe would be nice. Don't know what it would take to get him. I expect they have enough young players. Do they have any bad contracts they want to shed? Are they still paying that undersized Bulls SG and the bald forward with the head band?

Any reason why we should not consider signing Gortat? Not advocating for it, just throwing out the idea.

he's not very young and he'll cost a lot of money. I think he'd make us moderately better...maybe add 3 or 4 wins to this group, but I think $ wise we'd pretty much be stuck at being a 52 win team. if they're going to spend big money, it's got to be for a legit star at this point, someone who will truly move the needle and make them a legit contender. not a guy who can push them into being the perpetual 5 or 6 seed. big men just get overpaid and on the open market, Gortat will probably get overpaid accordingly.

Indeed. Or put another way, is what Gortat gives you worth the dollar difference between him and Len/Plumlee?

If Gortat gives 14ppg/10rbg at $9M/year, is that worth it when Miles Plumlee could very well give you 10ppg/10rpg next year at $1M/year? Is Gortat really almost 10x better than Plumlee (and Len)?

I'd also add we struggled with team rebounding and interior defense just as badly for 3 years with Gortat as we did this last season without him. I think Gortat would add some consistency to our interior play on offense, but scoring in general was not our problem.

Gortat looks like a pretty decent center playing next to Nene but I don't see him helping us much. He'd make us a little better but as has been said, not enough to warrant the extra money.

I predict that Plumlee will be better than Gortat next year.

That is highly unlikely.... but he is going to be just good enough to justify not paying Gortat that much.

I have no idea what to expect from Miles. If the question had been asked in November I would have been confident that he would pass Gortat by in short order. But it's hard to know how much his decline was due to exhaustion versus the fact he was no longer an unknown to the league. I think it was mostly exhaustion but I have no real reason to believe it other than I choose to.

They'd probably give you Monroe for a second round pick if you took Josh Smith off their hands.

It might be interesting to take Okafor on a one year deal... I'm assuming no one is going to go out on a limb and give him a long term contract at big bucks until he proves he's still a force on the court. If he's his old self we'd get into the playoffs and may even be in contention - and buy ourselves a year to let Plumlee and Len develop. It could do Len, in particular, a lot of good to watch how one should defend in the middle every night. At the end of the year it may be clear which was to proceed.

I'm sure he didn't endear himself to McD nor Jeff this past year but, heck, its a business.

Not much. I dont think he is a long term solution. Houston shopped him big time this year and no one bit.

he'd only be a solution if you had a big-time offensive PF next to him, IMO. If we were somehow able to win the lottery and get the third pick, I'd be okay putting him next to Randle as our big men of the future. Otherwise, I think he'd help us moderately, but not enough to really get over the hump.

NY Daily News (not known as a reliable news source) per hoopshype is reporting that Kevin Love's people have told the Minny FO that they need to trade him this summer or they will lose him for nothing.

Yikes. There goes the trade value. This does not help the Lakers either. They do not have the assets to trade for Love outside of their lotto pick. If they do trade that, they are much weaker trying to build around Love. If Minny trades Love to someone else, they can get him cheaper now, and maybe, with a good team, could convince him to stay.

Lots of "strategery" going on. . .

Thank you, Dubya. :D

Does that mean that the Suns have a fighting chance?

The problem is that Love will basically get to control his destination, and reports are that he only wants to play for the Lakers or Knicks (big surprise, the two largest markets in the league). The Suns nor any other team won't trade for him unless he agrees to sign an extension. So even if the Suns are able to put together the best trade package, the T-Wolves will be forced to accept whatever one of the few teams that he wants to play for offers, or risk losing him to that team anyway next summer for nothing.

This of course is nothing new. Players have been forcing their way out and onto teams they want to play for for a while now.

Just a comment, I don't think the Lakers or Knicks are premier destination points at this point in time. However, the Suns do not want to relive an Antonio Antonio McDyess moment.

Which NBA team would most likely become instant legit contenders if they added Love?
What does this guy want? Largest market for endorsements? Best chance of winning a title? To be near the beach?
