Assuming that the Suns believe they can sign Kobe Bryant if they offer him a max or near-max deal -- which is a huge assumption, of course -- what is the best way to try to clear the space?

For the purposes of this poll, don't debate whether the Bobcats would or would not accept the offer. The question is how much the Suns, if necessary, would be willing to give up. For all options, figure that cash would also be included.

Both.

White and Cavs pick to Charlotte and Eisley, Jacobsen and Suns pick to trade down a few spots.

If White doesn't happen it wouldn't be too bad, because I would definately trade down and get rid off Eisley.

But before the expansion draft we should have some players worked out already and have a good feel for them. If we really like a player that might force us to shop White more.

White and Eisley off of the books would be huge.

Like I just wrote, I think you are living in a dream world if you think that Charlotte or any other team is going to take Howard Eiseley's contract just to move up the couple spots in this year's draft. Howard would have two below everyone away in workouts, and the Phoenix Suns would have to get the #1 draft pick.

If necessary I would trade entirely out of the draft to get rid off Eisley.
Wether we got rid off White before or not.

In the first case we would have to get rid off Eisley because an additional 9M$ (Eisley's salary + pick) plus the few millions we would have left under the cap anyway to use on scrubs otherwise, could give us players like Dampier and Swift.

That is much better than another rookie to Vujanic on a team that already is the youngest and wants to turn it around.

Maybe get a future first or 2 to pay San Antonio or something like that at least by trading Eisley and our pick.

It is also likely that Charlotte will have some mid-first round picks after the expansion draft.
So we could maybe trade Eisley, Jacobsen and our pick to Charlotte for a #15+ pick.

If it's #1 or #2 in the draft, I'd trade Eisley + the pick to Bobcats for their next year's #4 pick.

Would it be illegal to have a written agreement with the Bobcats to trade Eisley, cash and our pick to them for a future 2nd rounder if they take White and cash from us in the expansion draft?

That way we could use the Cavs pick to complete the Barbosa trade.

Kobe is better than anyone in this draft. Basically the real question is Kobe worth say Stephon and a top pick...that is for sure.

well if the suns hope to go anywhere they need more then just jake in the middle. of all the centers that are likely to be out there white is the single one who comes with a good price tag and can fill our biggest weakness (that against the centers like shaq and yoa).

dampier is a good rebounder but he is to old at 30 and is well past the time that most of this team will be reaching their prime. even if this team signs kobe.

look at the ages of the heart of this team.
lampe 18
barbosa, amare are 21
jj, casey, milos are 22
marion, kobe and jake are 25 and 26
white is 27

players prime is thought to be between 26 and 30. after that the bodies start to brake down more and a players gets slower. so amare is at least 5 years out of he prime, along with barbosa. jj, casey and milos are 4 years out of their prime and marion and kobe are going to be entering their prime this next year. unless you know that lampe is going to end up being a very good center (and they may know that) giving up on white maybe a big mistake.

Unless the Suns can get Okafor or Howard, I would offer the pick to the Bobcats to take Eisley.

I would not get rid of White unless the Suns were very confident that Kobe was going to sign and they HAD to do it to do the deal.

I would not be opposed to trading this year's pick if it is not in the top three for future draft picks. The #5 pick ties up $2.2 million in cap space (the other option might be to draft an Euro player who would stay in Europe if not counted for cap purposes. Is the possible?). If the cap is raises to $47 million, the Suns could still offer $13 to start in a max deal.

Hey, after the last trade, I wouldn't rule it out...

You forgot the option "If nobody wants to trade, then just keep the pick and waive Howard Eisley."

I decided to throw that one out along with the "trade Casey Jacobsen for LeBron James" option.
