There is no indication Washington has failed any drug tests during his suspension. The commissioner can use his discretion as to the length of suspension though surely he will be mindful of recent rulings. As to precedent it is important to keep in mind that Washington has now violated 2 separate aspects of the personal contact policy. I don't know there is much precedent for that but it can surely be argued that his behavior indicates a lack of self-control or at least a disrespect for the NFL's image.

I'm hearing the talk at NFL headquarters is 6-8 weeks. Likely that would be appealed if accurate. I cannot imagine he will not play next year.

To put this in prospective, say Washington does get 6 - 8 games. He will have been suspended for 25 games! I don't think any player has been suspended that long even knucklehead Aldon Smith got to play last year despite his multiple off the field incidents last year alone. Washington has kept his nose clean as we have not heard a peep about him over the last year.

I worry even if Washington returns this year, how rusty will he be? ARZ will be taking at least 1 ILB in the draft as there really isn't anyone left in FA other than Spikes who is a 2 down player.

I know there are some Eric Kendricks supporters here. I know kid is fast and can cover but realistically can he be a 3-4 ILB at 6'0 232? I ask because he might be the most likely player to be there at #24. I would prefer Jalen Collins or Marcus Peters but I think they might go before #24.

Peters certainly has talent and his off-the-field baggage might cause him to drop. However, that same baggage likely eliminates him from the Cards' plan. This is a tough year to be looking for a corner. There are no locks.

His value would be pretty high in SF right now.

That's all for substance abuse issues.

The next suspension will be for the DV case.

Regarding Kendricks, you can't put a measurable on heart and production. There is no doubt about that and what he brings. Although his combine performance was nothing to sneeze at as well.

Has Collins shown all that much!? Your drafting strictly almost on potential (ceiling) for a 1st Rounder.

Although not a big position of need, some VERY productive WR's will also be at our pick if they want to trade down again to parlay it into picks if we think that will be a benefit. All depends whats offered and who fits best. Some good OL too. Peat, Humphries, Flowers and Erving ALL could be available.

Comparing Washington's 25 games, Josh Brent got 1 year for DWI which resulted in a death. Donte Stallworth got 1 year suspension for the same thing as Brent but victim wasn't a teammate. Leonard Little got less than a year for the same offense as Stallworth. The DV is not anything to take lightly but I think the 1 year is sufficient for both the substance abuse and DV charge considering the other 3 KILLED somebody.

Any player you get at #24 is going to be based off of potential because they are available at that point for a reason. Teams are gambling on picks paying off at that point in the draft.

I will give you a trade down might be the best option as I wouldn't want to take a player at a position that still has FA possibilities available (WR & OL).

Personal conduct and substance abuse are separated under two different categories, which was negotiated under the CBA. Although he got suspended twice for drugs, he'll have to be treated like a first-time offender for the DV case. As for 6-8 weeks, that would not hold up in appeal. Look for 2-4 weeks.
