Sounds like a negotiation issue between the Cards and NAU. It looks somewhat likely they might have training camp in Glendale.

Who wants to go to Glendale when it is 114 outside?

Can anyone shed any light on this hot mess?

People who know its 74 inside. Smart move. They can charge fans $5 to get in and $12 for a hot dog.

Michael Bidwill spoke about it with Bickley and MJ.

http://www.xtra910.com/cc-common/po...ichael_Bidwell_Interview_1359674418_15440.mp3

Said they were disappointed that they were moved from the really good dorms at NAU while they were renovated one year and then not put up in them again after they were renovated.

I believe they said they would build some extra practice facilities/domes near UOP if it was to be in Glendale.

It is ridiculous to me - keep it in Flagstaff. The Cards would be ripped if they move it just because they felt slighted. Work it out like adults.

It is crippling for Flagstaff's economy. That city should be doing what they can to keep the Cardinals up there.

If memory serves correct they were also stating that NAU didn't like the effect of having the dorms occupied by players so close to the school year. I think while rare there were comments about holes in walls and stuff.

Then I also think the Cardinals had issue with a disease outbreak a few years back. ???

I also think NAU wanted the Cardinals to help foot the bill to a large or whole extent for new dorms.

The only thing I didn't like about it this year was that they moved the scrimmage from the dome to the practice field. 14,000 people with about 20 porta-potties, and I'm there with a 3 and a half year old that had to pee. Suffice it to say, I saw more of the porta-potty line than I did of actual football, but that's the price I pay :biglaugh:

If it had been in the Skydome with a normal seating situation, it would've been perfect. I love going to Flag for training camp, have been trying to go every year if I can.

is it always kept that low in the summer? If not I would imagine the AC bill would be quite up there for such a large space if it's not normally cooled. Aside from the loss of use for concerts, motocross, etc. Plus the removal of the players from the city couldn't be a bad thing. There are much less distractions in a smaller city like that

that saddens me that NOBODY would let a 3 year old cut in front of em in such long lines...

You do know that Glendale is close enough that the players could stay home or just take the drive down I-10.

It's not like they're going to Yuma or Kingman.

The question about Glendale is where would the 30-40 players who don't live in the Valley stay?

So many things the team does not like about NAU.

Weight Room
Training Room
Dorms
Unpredictable Weather - Even though the field is much improved they hate going inside on that field

Anyways I see no big deal with staying in Glendale. What is the number of teams that are now staying home for training camp? Its close to 2/3rds isn't it. Three more teams this season have already announced they will now stay home for training camp. Going away for training camp is a dinosaur in the NFL now.

Is there enough room indoors? Don't the Cards need 2-3 football fields for workouts? Most other NFL cities don't average 115 degrees in August. Though Dallas has held TC in Austin and San Antonio where it is 95+ during August. Do the itinerant players stay in hotels?

Last time I looked there weren't any dorms at the University of Phoenix. :D

Have you seen how many hotels are around the Stadium, plenty of rooms to act as "dorms". Not to mention most teams that hold training camp at home don't make their players stay in dorms if they do they are usually in hotels.

East coast teams don't seem to have a problem with the humidity that would make it equal to or even worse to practice in the 107 degree averages at Glendale.

As for the fields we do not know what Glendale's proposal is. Maybe their proposal includes a non permanent bubble on the field outside the stadium.

For what it's worth, I've been told that Glendale will be the place. Building will begin soon on a new field. Workout equipment will be in the stadium. It's a 99% done deal. They are expecting huge crowds for practices indoors.

I would assume that for TC they would want them ALL to stay in the same place since it's kind of a "stay ultra-focused" and camaraderie building sort of time. For example, the Redskins in VA near where I live often hold TC at their facility in Ashburn. They have all the players put up in a hotel down the road, even though many of them live in the area.

Of course I know how many hotels there are around the stadium. I had season tickets from 2006-2011. What I did not know was that NFL teams put players in hotels.

I guess if you are a top player you get to stay in the Renaissance. UDFA's and guys who fumble will have to stay at the Comfort Suites near the Wal Mart. :D

As for the heat I live in Texas and have traveled to Arizona many times and 110-115 degrees is HOT and the summer heat here in Austin is not the same or worse.

It will be sad when its final but it does seem like the Flagstaff training camp era is about to become history. I'm not sure who is to blame. Before I thought it might be City of Flagstaff but it could also very well be NAU. They seem to drop a new dorm or parking garage into every open space on campus. The pratice fields on that east side take up a hell of a lot of it. I'm pretty sure the lumbejacks don't require that much. It may also just be the NFL training camp is becoming a thing of the past. Maybe soon none of the teams will have one. Everything is about the bottom line just like with any business.

It sucks. I am not a fan of training camp being in Glendale. Went to the Fanfest there and it was HORRIBLE. Long lines. No concessions open. Not enough sections available for seating. I hope the Cardinals will work these issues out before camp starts.

The best part of training camp is always checking out the team. But having training camp in Flagstaff was awesome in July. Plus, you could usually count on running into some of the guys in town. Doubt that will happen in Glendale. I am sure I will go by at least one day; however, I will still be planning a weekend in Flag come July.

lol. Yes. I do know. But did YOU know that I was referring to the benefit of them being in Flag AS OPPOSED TO Glendale? Like both sentences surrounding that one

LOL No. The way you wrote it made it sound like you were saying Glendale was "away from the city". Fooled me. :)

Looks like this is close to a done deal. :barf:

Arizona Cardinals President Michael Bidwill says he’s working with Glendale to move the team’s training camp to the West Valley.
Bidwill said the deal isn’t done, but on Thursday he played the idea up to about 300 people in Glendale before Mayor Jerry Weiers’ State of the City address.
