When I visited NO a few years before Katrina, I took a swamp tour given by a guy who has a doctorate degree in, I think, biology. He said during our tour that, if a cat 4 or 5 hurricane hit the city, it would be wiped out and that building a town in that area was not a wise move. Still, they built it. And this country has built towns in other not-so-safe areas. Should we not help those who live on a fault line in California? Those on the Florida coasts? There are few places on this planet that are totally "safe."

But back to the topic. I think the Saints did a great deal to uplift the community in New Orleans. Yes, sports help to unite a city, but I think there is enough spirit there that, should the Saints leave (or suck), that things will still be okay.

Nobody ever said that you shouldnt help them. But after you give them that help then move on. Dont rebuild in an area that is likely to be threatened on a yearly basis to be wiped out again. Thats just plainly idiotic IMO.

Dont expect me to feel sympathetic and be all willing to dish out of my wallet to help all the individuals who went back knowing in all likelyhood they would have to endure a tragedy like this again.

And I think that that was Dr. Paul's (my tour guide's) point. That it wasn't a good place to build from the get-go. But, again, what place is totally safe? How many earthquakes have California and Hawaii had? How may hurricanes has Florida and the gulf coast of Texas endured? Earthquakes in Texas? Tornadoes in the midwest? How many times have we helped these people? New Orleans has been super lucky for many years. Does this one catostrophic tragedy cross them off the list?

Not to bring up more political issues, but the government was informed that there were things that could have been done to possibly alleviate this kind of tragedy. It is much easier to fix a problem before it happens.

I hear New Jersey is nice...

It is! I'd love to give you a tour of the Victorian Houses in Cape May, the prestigious Battleship New Jersey, the fun stuff in Atlantic City, the numerous battlefields and historical sites and the various farms that are still family owned by people who knew my grandfather, who was a farmer until he got Alzheimers at age 87.

As far as natural catastrophes go, New Jersey is a good place to be.

By the way, I hear Mesa is fantabulous!

I got to agree with everyone on the board that says not to rebuild in that area. Even living anywhere near the ocean on the gulf coast is probably a bad idea, but why re-build a giant city that is under sea level. Is it because New Orleans has so much culture etc.

Also on another note and I read this twice is that the gulf water is 3.5 degrees hotter then the late 80's due to global warming. I might be wrong and I have read other scenarios where it is only 1-2 degrees, but this just adds fuel to the hurricane.

Yes. LA needs another chance to prove that a football franchise will not succeed there.

The success of a franchise in LA will be determined by the location of the stadium, which franchise relocates, and how successful the franchise becomes after it moves.

The 2nd largest market in the US will have an NFL team soon. Just a matter of when.

And that is the key point in your statement. No successful franchise just up and moves. Besides, I'd venture to say that most people already root for the Raiders, the Chargers or the 49ers.

I know that Cali is a big state (hell, Jersey is a tiny state and half the state cheers NY and half cheers Philly) so there is a potential fan base depending on location. I just think the NFL is trying to force something that might not be there.
