Max averaged 6.2 YPA in this game. That would be good for 26th in the NFL this season. Fitz didn't get a TD on the long bomb because Max couldn't get the ball to him in stride and he had to slow down.

Many of the deep passes he completed (and I didn't count a completion longer than 28 yards in a cursory look through) were either right down the middle of the field or on that extended roll-out that closes off 2/3 of the field.

Max Hall's average completed pass was for only 9.88 yards. I'm still not convinced that he has an NFL-caliber arm. Sorry.

But you're not looking to be convinced or to convince anyone, are you? Just some chest-thumping in the wake of a game where Max Hall did little to distinguish himself from the Jimmy Clausens, Seneca Wallaces, and Bruce Gradkowskis of the NFL.

It's good to see that personal attacks are totally permissible here as long as their against people who hold unpopular opinions.

The jury is still out for sure K9.

But didn't you say that we wouldn't win any games with Hall at QB? :p

And don't you appreciate the way the kid didn't fold up after the horrible start?

We have to win six more games to win the division. The money line on Hall getting it done just went from +220 to +150.

Exactly the same way Warner threw to him.

Did the Cards ever have a game where they averaged 3.4 yards per play with Warner and Whisenhunt?

I just hope the kid can stay healthy because the alternative is not very appetizing and as we thought he's a heck of a lot more fun to watch.

K-9's point was that Hall under threw Fitz and that is what Warner did all the time. There were very few times where Warner hit Fitz deep "in stride". Hall gave him a chance to make a play on the ball, where as, DA would have most likely over thrown him by 5 yds

You're being generous.

I've seen lot of passes now that are thrown short on purpose so that the WR can stop and get the football. I know Warner and Fitz used that a lot last year.

Absolutely! I think Haley had a big part of that in the 08 playoffs. I can't fault Hall for making that throw. 99 times out of a hundred Fitz makes that catch. Hell, two tears ago that would have been a catch (before the rule change).

Not sure, but this was Hall's first NFL start. As a rookie. An UDFA at that. In week 5. First UDFA to start this soon since Jim Zorn in 1976. Cant expect him to walk on the field and start where #13 left off.

Hall should view this as a nice stepping stone for the season. He made some mistakes, but acknowledges it and has two weeks to study and improve.

In essence, this season is a 12-game audition for Hall to convince the organization that it does not need to use their #1 pick on a QB next season. And I hope he succeeds.

All we know today (and Im not sure K9 does) is that he's better than Anderson. And at this juncture, that is the most important thing.

Ohh and his arm strength is just fine. Our last starting QB has a missile for an arm. Now look where he is.

Again, you went on and on about his inferior arm strength. You're wrong. ;)

As good as Max Hall looked, you can't crown him yet. He showed some great strengths such as the elite intangibles and accuracy but I can't help but think DCs are going to key in on his tunnel vision when they watch the tape. Lets hope he doesn't turn out like former promising UDFA QB Matt Moore.

Hall and Anderson are both supposedly tough and can take a hit. Who knew that would be the main job requirement to be the Cards QB.

Don't have the patience to search thru the threads to find your comments about Hall...
However, care to make the case that the kid doesn't have a "NFL arm"?? That, simply because he went undrafted that there had to be something very wrong with him?

The kid has more than what it takes to be successful in this league - as I have contended all along. He won a game today with zero running game, a swiss cheese of an o-line, in his home town with Kurt Warner calling the game, against the defending SB Champs. He made every throw you cold possibly want from your QB. Deep outs. Slants and in-routes that required tremendous zip and accuracy. Across the field sideline patterns, and beautiful touch passes...

Don't know how many W's he'll put up in his career. But arm strength will never be the issue for Max. ;)

Uh, he doesn't have the protypical NFL arm..... Neither did Joe Montana, and he did pretty well for himself last I checked.

Don't need an NFL arm if you are accurate enough. It has been proved in the NFL time, and time again.

Hall did just enough to win. He gets and atta boy.

I called him almost getting knocked out, BTW. Someone has to tell him that when you are down two scores, you can't kill yourself after the first score or you won't be able to play to win the game. :bang:

It's good to see that personal attacks are totally permissible here as long as their against people who hold unpopular opinions.

Fitz chopped one half stride as he looked back and then continued on in stride. Roman Harper is coming over the top to cut off Fitz, that's how he made the tackle, so if the ball is out in front Harper at best brings down Fitz, at worst he might make a play on the ball. Max put that ball where it had to be on the outside so neither DB has a chance to make the play.

You're acting like throws down the middle of the field are easy. Yes they're shorter because they're more direct, but they're also usually into more coverage, he threaded several balls into fairly tight windows, which is tough to do with a weak arm.

He didn't play great but who would with Williams, Komar, Roberts and Dray playing that much all rookies? Clausen saw how hard it is to play with only one good WR in Carolina, then Smith gets hurt and Clausen was so bad he got pulled.

He didn't play great, passer rating of 65, but he clearly showed why the Cards made the move, he's going to be better than DA.

After the game Whiz said as Hall gets more comfortable it will allow him to really open up the offense and put in more stuff with 4-5 wr sets. He said NO was daring them to throw and overall he felt Max did well. I assume he means both with who we had at WR, and with the plays he was given.

That throw to Fitz was exactly where it had to be because the safety Harper was coming over the top to take that away, that's how he was in position to knock fitz out of bounds. In fact if the ball is thrown out in front Harper might break it up.

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010101009/2010/REG5/saints@cardinals#tab:watch

now if you were talking about the deep throw that was incomplete you're dead wrong, Fitz didn't catch it because Jenkins was behind him by a half step and grabbed his left arm, the ball being underthrown gave Fitz a shot to catch it. Out in front Jenkins picks it or bats it down. It was PI, they just didn't call it.

Absolutely not. I removed the clown picture. Sorry I was checking from my phone yesterday and it made it hard to see every post.

That's why getting Doucet and Breaston back will help. A large part of his tunnel vision was likely Fitz is the only guy I really trust right now. he's seen enough of the young guys in regular season games to know none of them have been ultra reliable yet.

But yes he will have to stop keying in on Fitz so much but he's a rookie, they all do that lock on one guy stuff.

Everyone does it, I saw Peyton Manning throw a pick directly to a LB yesterday, he was so locked in on the receiver he never saw the LB in front of him. I saw Romo throw a pick in the endzone completely locked onto the guy he threw it to, in double coverage. Rookies do it more, but everyone does it at times.

Daryl "defensive rookie of the year" Washington? Wasn't he benched mid season for an over the hill linebacker with a bad back?

cmon DJ - you really want to tie your boat to K9?

Washington wasn't All Pro but that doesn mean he didnt exceed expectations and didn't play well especially considering he wasn't handed a starting job. Even Helen Keller saw that.

He's right more than he's wrong. And at least he gives logical reasons for his opinions.

Washington was handed the starting job. But as soon as Hayes was healthy Washington went to the bench. Of course as dumb as our defensive coaches seem to be that may not really be a knock on Daryl.

Did you notice the drop off in the D when he was benched and how much better it played as a whole when he was a starter again?

Yes. He looked AWESOME when the 49ers were putting 38 points on us in the season finale. And when Jonathan Stewart put up 137 yards against us in Carolina? Studly.

Check out his playmaking in that Carolina game:

2-11-ARI 16 (11:13) 33-M.Goodson up the middle to ARZ 10 for 6 yards (58-D.Washington).

1-10-CAR 9 (6:56) 28-J.Stewart up the middle to CAR 18 for 9 yards (58-D.Washington, 25-K.Rhodes).

3-20-CAR 44 (5:03) (Shotgun) 2-J.Clausen pass short middle to 33-M.Goodson to 50 for 6 yards (58-D.Washington).

Once Carolina was up 19 to 3 and Carolina was spinning clock, Daryl really turned it on.

1-10-ARI 27 (8:41) 28-J.Stewart left end to ARZ 29 for -2 yards (58-D.Washington).

2-4-ARI 44 (3:37) 33-M.Goodson right end to ARZ 47 for -3 yards (58-D.Washington).

Making big plays is just what Daryl Washington does. He's nothing like Raynoch Thompson.

The defense never played well no matter who was starting. They lost 41-7 early in the season and 38-7 at the end of the season.

The highly paid coaches decided to put DW on the bench and I'll take their professional decisions over some hack fan in Nevada any day. In Whiz we trust.

My god if you watched the games and can honestly tell me he wasn't 1 of our 2 best LB'ers and you were unhappy with his pick as a 2nd rounder, I don't know what to tell you.

You can bring up whatever stats you want the bottom line is his rookie stat line was very good and he wasnt the problem on our bad defense. He moved to the ball lightining fast, was in one most plays, and tackled pretty well. Once he gets better DT play over the course of the season hes only going to get better.

I can't believe you are so thick headed K-9 that you can't **** and just say, I may have been wrong on that one and continue to justify your ludicrous point. The play of Washington was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dreary year.

And your only going to look stupider for it next year as he is going to only get better and better.
