I think you need to give the guy a break, let him have his fun. I don't think he would rip on anyone if people didn't personally attack him.

I rarely comment on this type of stuff, but even though he is extremely annoying, I don't think he did anything to deserve being suspended (except maybe the comment at the top of page 2 of this thread), but that was all brought on by Dave and Eric. Not that I think they should be banned either, but they really laid it on pretty thick, and it's no wonder he responded as he did.

Lets all be friends and speak the way we want. But of course...referring back to an old post by Skkorp, "this is a PG board". Slang is fine, but I don't think there is much cussing in PG movies.

Banned for what???

I don't get it.

I thought his "slang" was hilarious. Better than some of the boring stuff that I have to wade through from time to time.

It was an unprovoked attack by Shutd. And, I'm sure he'd agree.

Ya'll better recognise. He leads our team in points, rebounds, steals, blocks and assists i believe... maybe not assists.

Just show some love is all i'm sayin. He's a Sun not a NET!

I'll praise him. Even though his game is still "off", he's picked up the tempo.

I really think Marion is having a hard time breaking his bad habit of not taking the extra dribble to the hole. I would love to see him do something about it.

I did see him give a ball fake (or two) on Garnett today from outside. He went right around him, but got cut off in the lane. If he could just take it straight over people (which he can), he'd go to the line a bit more often.

I apologize for further bringing down the level of discourse. I guess I just lose patience with people who do the same annoying things over and over again. But I'm sure there are those who think that's exactly what I do, so who am I to criticize.

Have fun, everyone. I'll do my best not to interfere.

See, to me, this isn't really the best way to go about this. We always welcome you, Eric, and of course Dave in any and all discussions.

Unfortunately, this type of response just appears very arrogant and makes you look like you posting is a favor to us. And I know that you probably don't think that, it's what comes across.

But then, we're all guilty of some kind of message board faux pas--me included, probably moreso than most people on this board. :D

I can't address the arrogance charge, but I think that each of us is doing the board a favor by making thoughtful posts. That's what makes a message board work. Yes, I would like to think that my posts would be missed if they disappeared -- but personally I can say that I would miss the contributions of any of this board's regulars, including those with whom I regularly disagree. Even people who are generally negative about the Suns these days (which includes me, unfortunately) can make positive contributions to the board, in my opinion.

So I'm not sure if I'd call it a "favor," but I do feel that I, like most posters here, have something useful to share. I hope that people appreciate my posts (pessimistic as they often are) as much as I appreciate theirs.

However, I don't appreciate lurkers who do nothing more than wait for an opportunity to derail a good conversation by practicing their bizarre on-line street-punk persona. I fail to see what that adds to anything. I wouldn't miss "Jerry Colengelo" if he stopped posting, not for an instant. It's a public forum and he's free to post whatever he wants, but I'm also free to post that I think it's a stupid waste of everyone's time.

So I did, but I won't anymore. I've made my point, not everyone agreed, and that's that. I'm not going to win any converts by repeating myself.

I guess we all have our own opinions as to what is a "waste of time". That's why God created the "Page Down" button. :D

I have to admit that I take some people's opinion more seriously than others. People who take the time to give the evidence of where I am in error are certainly going to get more attention than someone how just makes unsupported claims. People who give serious thought to what they are saying rather than just firing off an opinion will get more attention.

But I have no interest in suppressing anyone. I'd prefer civility, but I can't see getting into a fight over some supposed slight.

My advice to everyone is "have fun" - it's only a game.

Well, his original post was regarding Shawn Marion, who has had his fair share of criticism lately--I don't see how that's a waste of time. Like you say, it IS a message board, after all... :D

I was more offended from the racial comments then the "slang" typing.

Although the "slang" is abit annoying to me, there was no reason to flatout insult the man. Infact I thought the person attacking him sounded alot more "immature" for not keeping their oppinion to themselves.

I doubt he would of been attacked if they were speaking in person. I hate how people lose their cool when hiding behind a computer.

I also didnt agree with the reaction JC gave. He should of laughed at how dumb the comments at him were and moved on. Or atleast held out the bad words.

The "slang" talk is kinda annoying IMO, but you know what... So is real life. Real people talk like that, and in away it makes this board more colorful and real. (I guess)

Eitherway, I think this should be yet another reminder to all of us to remember why were are at this board. I dont think it is to judge other people, but more to talk about sports.

I seriously do not think that people who speak in slang (and we all do, to some extent) also write that way. If someone spoke to me that way in person and it didn't seem affected, I would have no objections. JC uses his slang only to put down everyone else's opinions; otherwise, he remains on the sideline.

You're absolutely right, BEERZ, that people tend to hide behind on-screen personas. In my opinion, that is exactly what Jerry Colengelo (edit: I accidentally "misspelled" this before) is doing, and I resent being taken for a ride.

This whole thing seems kind of racist. Would we call an Asian a moron for saying, "Shawn Marion is very good player"? Would we attack a blind man for mis-spelling a word? Where do we draw the line? The fact that you guys don't like the way somebody talks does not make him a moron.

As for Jerry's point, I do see where he's coming from. Shawn had 31 points and 13 boards today, and that's a very, very good statline. However, in the closing minutes of the game, Marion was characteristically unreliable. This team has made a habit of giving the ball to Joe Johnson on an iso and hoping he can pull off a difficult play, and lately it's been working with surprising regularity. But a team can't be any good if they rely on one person alone to carry them night after night, unless of course that guy wear's number 23 and wasn't in Intro to Biology last year. Johnson has played so well since the Marbury trade, but he needs help and should be getting it from Shawn Marion. Instead, however, Shawn dribbles around the perimeter, basically toeing the 3pt line the entire time, and then shoots a running, leaning 18 footer with a man draped over him that he was unable to shake, misses the shot, the Twolves get the board, get fouled, and win the game.

I am not trying to bash Shawn Marion; I am merely trying to show how somebody could. Joe Johnson is a 3rd year player and is playing better than he ever has. He's starting to reach his potential, finally exhibiting that elusive consistency he has failed to posses previously, but he needs somebody else to step up with him. Shawn Marion is not a rookie anymore, and its time for him to stop playing like one.

I'm sorry, but accusing people of racism without any evidence is pretty cowardly. Basically it is a sure-fire way to change the subject and get the other party on the defensive.

Just out of curiosity, can one of the board's administrators compare JC's and JVM's IP addresses to that of t.r.h.?

Hmm. I think that there is a possibility that JC and JVM are the same person, but to my knowledge, he's never mentioned Penny before, so I'm not sure about the trh connection... :D

I thought Shawn played a very good game against the Wolves. His defense on Garnett was quite good considering the year KG is having holding him to 8 of 20 shooting. (This season Garnett is averaging 24.5 ppg and is shooting 49.4% from the field.)

Shawn's offense was 31 points on 12 of 27 and 2 of 3 for three. He hit all five free throws he took, but there were several other times he was in the lane and nothing was called. At least he is going to the basket more. Oh, I should mention he had 13 rebounds and 3 assists.

Shawn may never be the crunch time "go to" guy, but he seems to be getting over his early season funk. I wonder how many rookies are averaging 18.4 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2 steals per game 1.7 blocks per game, and plays good defense -- all in a down year.

Let me point out that the leading candidate for ROY is Carmelo Anthony. He is making 18.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.2 steals per game and .67 blocks per game. Anthony is hitting 40.5% of his shots compared to 42.9% for Marion.

If Marion is playing like a rookie, it sure looks a really, really good rookie.

I didn't wanna comment but couldn't help myself... Abusing the guy for how he speaks is pretty small minded. Who cares how ANYONE types. Everyone is entitled to share their view in whatever way they choose... as long they use reasonably sensible words. Thats all he did. Well... sort of reasonable :) He didn't say anything bad about anyone until they bombarded him for how he talked. That was kinda lame.

Oh, and I think Marion is playing well too. Did he play on Garnett tonight or Sprewell?

Seemed to be mostly Garnett. He had a couple of great sequenses when the snot clock ran out because Garnett could not get the ball off. He had trouble with Garnett in the paint, but probably no more than most people.

Being a former Phoenix Chat chatter - I've picked up slang and my friends will spell about every word different than original spelling but being mexican/italian with limited education, I try to spell as good as possible on THIS board - and mentioned before how bad grammar is hehe. But I've been questioned on posts before and IMO good idea to keep slang away from posts if can - if you don't want to be criticized.

Although I wouldn't judge and I guess you're free to do as please under rules/guidelines - and again everyone has been questioned before of some manner, joining a message board there is a respect level to participate.

If this makes no sense, I apologize hehe - I'm the dumb poster on board...

I guess if your looking to find offense in any comment with some sort of racial reference you can certainly find it. Sterotypes can be a bad thing, but hey, lets face it, they also save a bunch of time. Heh. I KID!

And as far as being attacked if we were talking in person? Dont bet on it. Id laugh my freakin ass off at any guy who talked like that to me. Slang is one thing. Forcing its use in every other word is a bunch of crap. And Im sorry if it ends up getting me banned, I'll make fun of it unprovoked every time I see it. JC's slang aint real life. Thats some middle class white kid in the NW trying to sound ghetto fabulous casue thats what he sees on MTV.

Now, if you were offenede by the term "******" I can see that. Im not offended by much, but I am saddened that people still need to use race as a factor in their arguing.

I digress. I called him out. Ill take responsibility for the 4 pages of crap that ensued, and Ill promise to leave him alone from now on.

Sorry all.

Great basketball analysis. Racist? Laughable. Tread lightly when you start making those accusations.

I think you've hit it on the head, schutd. When I read his post all I could do was roll my eyes and hope this guy didn't post much. I would never be able to read any of his posts and be able to take him seriously. He was trying to impress somebody and just came across as an idiot wannabee.
