scouting report (imo)

DURANT ASSETS
* still high-percentage, high scorer who can use his length to get shot off against anyone
* can turn up his defense and offense in clutch situations
* has championship experience
* can't be rattled
DURANT FLAWS
* starting to show his age. The dribble he needs to set himself up, can be disrupted, resulting in turnovers.
* his strength is iso ball, and that is never any team's best option
* not a leader, doesn't make teammates better

BOOKER ASSETS
* effective scorer. can score in bunches
* can handle the ball and assist
* still young
BOOKER FLAWS
* defensive liability (12th lowest rated defender in league)
* when rattled often gets sloppier instead of better
* tends to revert to iso hero-ball in clutch situations and take risky shots
* can be contained with double-team pressure and forced into turnovers
* not a leader, doesn't make teammates better
* top 5 highest salary

I voted for the first option, but I wouldn't regard it as "rebuilding" around Booker, rather as maintaining some continuity for the franchise. I think Booker is salvageable once Durant is gone. The Suns have no shortcut to being a contender no matter what moves they make, and I don't think a few years of pure suckage is any better than a few years of mediocrity.

is the poll fair or not?

the "scouting report" is noted as MY OPINION
if it make you nervous, you know what you could do?
offer your own scouting report (in your opinion)
OR
critique my opinion

do tell -- which point to you disagree with?

just whining all the time doesn't cut it!

but...

how is our payroll manageable going forward with Booker? Can we/should we just assume Ishbia will or should continue to pay the highest payroll in the league (with penalties) to afford the talent it would take to really compete with Booker?

is there reason to believe Booker still has a higher ceiling? That his 8th coach and 3rd or 4th roster rebuild would provide better results than the past decade?

Almost every team in the league has overpaid players. It's a manageable problem.

No, but he could revert to where he was before Durant. This is statistically his worst season in four years. He was 4th in MVP voting in 2021-22.

I voted blow it up but it has nothing to do with Booker. I just don't see us contending for the next few years with him or without him.

I surprised myself by just voting for a KD trade and not a total blowup. I guess I am just curious to see what the team would look like for the rest of the year without him.

Most likely it wouldn't work, but I would be curious to see what happens before trading Book off.

if it's focused on getting back future assets, the problem is, based on earlier results this year (2 and 8 without Durant?) Booker is likely to lose even more value. He's had a good couple of weeks. I'd bet on his stock going down rather than up.

Didn’t we see that when he was injured for ten games and we looked like one of the worst teams not just this year, but of all time, going a laughably woeful 1-9, with multiple brutal losses to terrible team?

Well you have a point I suppose, but I would like to think the offense would be changed to use more ball movement.
