Let me just set you all straight on this issue. :D

Whiz had the right idea, given how the game was playing out, in putting Warner in. He just did it one series too soon. And that is not an inconsequential fact. It really is not.

That, I think, is what this post is about.

If Wiz, or any of you, had to make the call in hindsight, what would you do?

I suspect the answer would be.... send Warner in for one more series.

Damn I am smart. :D:D:D:D

Exactly, I did just hear Kurts take on it and there might be a synergy going on there with the Headcoach as he stated that he had spoken to Whis, presumably in the 3rd quarter, about getting him out when the time was right as he had tweaked his shoulder during the week. Whis makes the calls and this one he should have kept Momentum going, contracts, and players wishes not withstanding. You never let up until the horn sounds. Glad it happened in week 2 and not week 15. I think he will learn from it and We Won so time to move on.

What may be a tad underlooked here is that Whiz has been growing more confident in Matt Leinart. He didn't sit on the lead with Leinart in there. He put Leinart in a position to make plays. Next time Leinart may do more to capitalize on his opportunity.

This is what Whiz believes...he wants everyone in his system to be involved and to contribute.

Sad that at 31-3 against a pedestrian Jacksonville offense some still consider the game not out of reach but with our pass defense I can't blame them.

Also sad that people would believe our D would start coasting because Leinart came in the game. If our guys are doing that the coaches need to get real busy doing something about it. Real pro's would step it up not set on cruise control. .

Finally we are in a situation like a college team. I doubt anyone on here other than maybe Mokleram thinks Warner will still be playing in 2011. Many think Warner won't be back or effective next season regardless. So the Cards are in a position like a college team looking to having to replace their starting QB within a year or two.

I'm more concerned with the Cards doing the same things they have done the last 3 seasons. Get way ahead and have to hold on because they can't run the ball effectively with the lead and their pass defense still can't stop anybody in the clutch.

For example I don't remember Leinart playing a snap in the NFC Championship game where the Cards blew a huge lead.

Your wrong again. They were too high where they had to jump at their apex to grab the ball. There is a less than 50% shot of catching that, even in you're Fitz.

No way. This is the NFL and the best athletes in the world, not a backyard game between kids and old fat guys. and Fitz gets paid 10 million a year to catch those balls.

FWIW I thought bringing in Matt that early was great and I hope we do it again (hopefully we're in a position to do it every week :D).

C'mon, Duckjohn. I've never said anything like that. Warner will play a somewhat abbreviated season this year at most and most certainly will be splitting time in 2010 if he manages to stay healthy. No way he makes it all the way to 2011. By choice or by injury or by replacement he'll be on to greener pastures in 2011.

I don't have the stomach to read the whole thread, so forgive me if I repeat what's been said:

I think it was a good idea to put him in when he did. I didn't have sound where I was watching the game, so I'm not certain if Whiz was ready to put Warner back in if they'd scored on that last drive, but that would have been a HUGE mistake. You put Leinart in to gain confidence, and if you take him out at that point you strip him of it ...despite him not really doing anything wrong. I thought he played well what he was given. In fact, I think it was a , mistake to put him in only to turtle up on the offense.

I don't think it was a mistake to put him in either and although the offense was more conservative it wasn't a mail-it-in situation. All the starters were out there and even with a majority of run calls being made to bleed the clock, there were plays there for Leinart to make.

The pass to Fitz hurts the most because it would have pretty much ended the game and definitely any threat of a comeback.

I think Leinart's confidence took a hit though. He was not a happy camper on the sideline when Whis told Warner he had to warm up again. Warner didn't come in because the defense prevented a score but Leinart was going to be out if the Jag's put any more points on the board.

No doubt about that.Warner was ready to go.Just as ready as Leinart was before he was sent in also.Very dissapointed in all the 3 and outs. This is who everyone was screaming for last week? What a shame. The future is NOW.Get Wells up to snuff and keep improving the D every week.Teams are tougher and have a gameplan for us.We have to keep changing it up on them.Whiz knows this. Its a new team even if its the same players basically.

Its a long season and We've got to stay healthy as possible.Lets stay aggressive a little bit longer in the future though.Matt had a true chance with the starters.Fitzgerald was WIDE open and did'nt need to have to climb a ladder for that one.Yet I recall all the bashing of Kurt all pre-season for throwing the ball even lower than that.Too many worried about qbof as fans.Glad all the FSU kids had a great day for thier families to see and old fans of them at college.Really a hot moist day down on that field.Hope Warners brittle body can hold up another game at least.:D

There is going to come a time when Wiz will have to put Matty in because of injury. We will not have the benefit of a 21 pt lead. I like the fact that Leinart came in in a competitive situation as he ultimately will some time in the future.

Wiz mentioned protecting Warner from a stinger he received last week. Look, bottom line....we won and we won convincingly. If Warner stays in and gets hurt, there would be people here blasting Wiz for letting him in. If the Jags made an incredible comeback to win, Wiz would get blasted for pulling im too early.

If, if, if.

:yeahthat: Thank you for saving me the time to type this up. Exactly what I was going to type, well you added more that I didn't think of but totally agree with.

I especially agree with the Bolded part.

I will add that at this point the team does not always play with the "switch" in the ON position. Whis can now say great game and then get on them for the let down in the 4th QTR.

Last week some though that Whis couldn't call plays or put together a game plan or..... Now this week he almost blew the game with a horrible decision.

So also what Shane said.

I hope to see Leinart in all the rest of the games. Not just because we are winning but because so he can get experience. He will be taking over in the next year or two and it would be nice to see him come in and not miss a beat when Warner retires or gets hurt.

IMO it was the right time for him to hit the field. Two of his passes went through the hands of the WR. Larry usally would make that catch.

The passes to Fitz and Becht should have been caught. Larry would be the first one to tell you that he should have come down with it.
