I was impressed with Wiz explaining that he had read that the Cards didnt put an emphasis($$) on great assistant coaches in the past and that would not be the case now.

I am really stoked!!

I was really impressed by how excited he was and how he keep trying to hold back his smile... I hope this shows to the players that he actually wants to be here...

Some random thoughts:

Michael was nowhere to be seen. Rod ran the show with Bill Sr being the person at the conference.

Interesting point in Rod's introductory comments: they sought the advice of "well respected NFL personnel" including those that had to game plan against the candidates, on the attributes of each candidate. I think Rod also said they sought outside input on the state of their own roster.

Any news on the asst coaches?

In a 620 radio interview after the presser he said that he was under no pressure to keep any of the asst. coaches. Take that for what it's worth I doubt he would say other wise.

A couple of things that stuck out to me... one was that they asked the most indept questions out of the whole process. Who wudda thunk?

Anyway Gambo asked him about the amount of control he would have. Whiz basically said that he felt very comfortable about the setup and the amount of input he and everyone in the organization would have.

Gambo asked him about his staff and if there was any pressure to keep the existing assistants. Whiz stated that there was no pressure to keep anyone in fact the FO was very adamant in that they were committed to assembling the best staff possible.

Gambo asked him about the budget for the staff and based on cards history of being cheap in that respect. He stated he felt very comfortable with the setup and he has seen how much these guys have been paid and did not feel they were underpaid. He did not feel that would be a problem.

Was any other players there or was it just Adrian Wilson. I know Wiz mentioned him being there and mentioned his name a few times.

I really like this new leadership role Wilson is taking on as of late.

Also on Wiz interview on Gambo and Ash he was asked about the 4-3 vs 3-4.

He said for a team to turn to a 3-4 in one season without all the pieces in place would be a disaster. He said this team is a 4-3 team that can play some variations of the 3-4 to mix it up. I expect our D to run a base 4-3 but run the 3-4 to mix it up more often then years past.

I think some of these guys really do read the boards!

Thanks for the update ... I like his approach to the questions ... he sounds very confident and organized ...

I dont know if this was mentioned or not but in the various interviews he did afterwards he stated he will be calling the plays.

Which means the OC/QB coach we have right now is gone without question as he wont be an OC for Wiz and the rumors of Matt liking him as a QB coach. He is one coach I know he wont keep.

If the Wiz is really gonna call all the plays, I hope his OC comes from a RB/OL pedigree and he hires a good QB coach with Matt's input or he just retains Kruczek as QB coach....

I was very impressed with what Whiz had to say. Espically about playing 'smart, disciplined, physical football'.

Dan Manucci knew Whipple since high school, Camelback high, and they talked about him in their interview with Whis. He sounded good, but Whis said they have NOT been given permission to talk to him yet.

Honestly --

I ranked it as a mediocre presser.

Very little of substance. Didnt say a whole lot other that cliches. Seemed nervous.

At the same time -- I couldnt care less.

We got all the sizzle with Denny Green as it relates to pressers -- particularly early on. You would listen to him (and Buddy for that matter) and get all fired up. The problem was, we never got the steak.

I want a coach with enough ego to drive to succeed, but not so much that he will ignore the input of others. I want a guy who will have this football team prepared for game time, and enough smarts about him to make adjustments when necessary.

Short of announcing he was trading Matt Leinart and bringing in Kordell Stewart to run the option offense, there was little Wis could have done to make me think he is a bad hire.

Giving good presser is the least of traits I would want in a head coach.
