You are kidding, right? Look what the Eagles did to the Raiders this afternoon with a 2nd string QB, and then think back on how the Chargers did at Oakland, especially on offense.... they got hammered in case you forgot.

Allow me to go over the last 3 plays the chargers ran from the 6 inch line:
1. Instead of putting in their big back, who had 2 straight 100 yd games leading up to this one, they run their 5'8" small back up the middle from a single back formation.
2. They then send in their big back along with their FB to only fake a run and throw an incomplete fade pass.
3. They roll out their "slow as a turtle" QB and throw an incomplete pass into the end zone.

It appears play 1 and two were to surprise the D by doing the opposite of what your would expect. From the 6" line.....are you kidding me. Just power it in. You don't need to try and fool anyone from that position on the field. Whiz looked like an idiot today after that scenario.

On third down he didn't even have the threat of a run since it was an empty backfield. I saw it all on the Red Zone and it looked just like to old days of Whiz calling plays here and us wondering what in the hell he was doing. The first down run with Woodhead never had a chance as it was more of an off tackle run to the left with Woodhead lined up on the right and it took way too long to develop.

I also talked to a Redskin fan Sunday night at bowling and even he said the Skins should never have won the game if it wasn't for the bad play calling by the Chargers there and he didn't even know Whiz was their OC.

if Wiz is soley to blame for the game here, does that mean he's sole to get credit for calling the plays that have made last year's 31st ranked offense the 6th ranked offense this year?

I thought the play-calling was pretty bad there, but I think it's almost impossible to deny the guy has done a pretty damn good job with that offense this year. (i'm sure this will be followed by: "The HC is responsible for the offense" excuse...that apparently doesn't hold true for Wiz when he was the HC here and Haley and Warner got all the credit...even though Haley's offenses have been horrific everywhere else he's been.)

SD has routinely been one of the top offenses in the league.

Last year the Chargers were the 20th ranked offense but from 2004-2011 they were never lower than 5th and they were the league's best offense a couple times.

Are you comparing the 2012 AZ team offense ranking with the 2013 SD team offense ranking? Apples to oranges with the different personnel and SD's proven history of success over a long period already in place, IMHO.

I have no vendetta against Whiz. One of our friends is a friend of his wife, Alice. Great guy, great family. I wasn't always pleased with his play calling and wished that he would have just been the coach and let a true OC run the offense. But that's probably not how he is wired...

I did watch the entire game in Chula Vista with Chargers' fans who were not very happy about much of the play calling.

The first TD was the defense blocking a pass and catching the rebound off a player's back. The second was an offensive TD made possible by Rivers' changing the play at the line. The third TD was nice and most of the drive was as well. They sent Gates out and he drew coverage which freed up Allen - which is exactly what they should have done at the line if they weren't going to run it (with another timeout) on the drive where they settled for 3 points.

It seemed like an all too familiar ending - snatching defeat from the jaws of victory... :|

I'm guilty of watching those plays and being reminded of some of the crap playcalls in similar situations last year. Frankly, I was surprised he did not call a WR screen.

31st ranked offense...right ahead of the Cardinals.

as to the point of the Chargers consistently having good offenses from 2004 to 2011, they also a TON of talent, almost all of it which has gone by the wayside (Turner, Sproles, Vincent Jackson, a young healthy Gates).

Not to mention LaDainian Tomlinson who was one of the most effective offensive weapons in the league for several of those years.

Weird. Using the NFL or several other pro football reference sites and their stats...both have the Chargers listed as the 20th ranked offense/team offense last year.

Jeez, are you guys still argueing about long gone coaches and players? Can't everyone just get along and get over it......On a side note the Insurance Salesman\Qb in Chicago won a game against Greenbay....I wonder if he was able to sign his family up For Obamacare or has to take one of the company policies he sells;)

it's so odd to me how much some Cards fans hate Wiz.
No hate from me. It was time to move on. Team was stagnant and needed a fresh outlook from the head coaching staff.

He did something here no other coach has done which is take us to the SB. He also did many things that made many of us scratch our heads. I know it's easy to second guess coaches, but he was stubborn and did not adjust the game plan well as the games progressed. He also hung on to Grimm too long.

You forgot to mention they had 2 timeouts left.

Since when do OCs call team timeouts? I've NEVER seen it? That's on the HC and the QB.

They got their plays off too correct?

Nah, that's on Whiz. He calls all the timeouts. For every team. It keeps him pretty busy between calling timeouts and making every bad decision ever made but he can handle it. Personally, I think we should obsess about him even more than we do. Maybe someone can build a StalkingWhiz web page and then track everything he says and does and frequent all the places on the internet where Whiz fans are likely to gather.

Whiz is gone. I'm glad he's gone. But I'm mindful of the good stuff he did while he was here. I don't do bitter well though so maybe I'm just blinded to the real needs some fans have on this forum.

Whiz deserves some hate. I hope he does well in the future and learns from his mistakes, but remember that it took a few games to realize that Warner needed to start ahead of Leinart. And once Warner left, Leinart was expendable because we had the supreme Anderson. And in his last year, he just couldn't tell, exactly, who was better: Kolb or Skelton. He guessed Skelton. Oh, and then there was that blind loyalty to Grimm.

I really hope he learned his lessons, and I'm quite satisfied that we've moved on. And his mix at the goal line should have been either run, run, pass or run, pass, run (I liked that latter). Run, pass, pass was a losing combination that close to the goal line. Even if luck had allowed it to work, he made the wrong choice. I hope he learned from that mistake too.

This Whiz hate reminds me of the vitriol poured on Dansby when he left.

Neither deserved it.

The problem with Whiz me thinks with his play calling is he gets too cute or he thinks he is outsmarting the opposing DC when in fact he is playing into the opposing DC's hands since his play calling in situations like Sunday are eerily similar in every situation.
