Whisenhunt says no Cardinal is untouchable

No player on the Arizona Cardinals roster is untouchable when it comes to the franchise’s pursuit of a replacement for Kurt Warner(notes). You know, it’s the search that started a year ago with Derek Anderson(notes).

Rumors are rampant that the Cardinals will offer the Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie(notes) in exchange for Kevin Kolb(notes).

“I don’t even know where that speculation started about trading or what we’re going to give up,” Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. “We don’t even know if they (the Eagles) are willing to do that. That’s something that everybody speculates on.”

Whisenhunt reportedly said no one on his roster is off-limits when it comes to trade talks. Teams are forbidden from talking to other clubs about potential personnel moves during the lockout. That doesn’t mean the Cardinals don’t have a good indication what kind of needs the Eagles have and what the ballpark price tag might be for Kolb.

The Cardinals have also been linked to Marc Bulger(notes), who will be a free agent, but at this point most of the noise involves Kolb.

“Yesterday there was a report that he (Bulger) didn’t even want to come here, to Arizona,” Whisenhunt said. “So which one is it? Is it, we’ve already worked a deal under the table or is it he does not want to come here?”

As Somers points out, the Eagles could ask for a draft pick or two along with Rodgers-Cromartie in a potential trade. Now back to your regularly scheduled labor watch.

I actually like it when teams say no player is untouchable. It makes players uneasy and reminds them they still have to work hard to maintain their position.

we do not have a bonafide game breaker on the roster so no one should be considered untouchable. But it also has to be value for value....you give up one thing for Kolb....but wouldn't you give up more if suddenly Aaron Rodgers was available?.... Who would we not trade for a guy like that?

I basically agree that's how it should "be", but I don't agree that it's what should be "said".
