One day after the Chargers lose, he leaves. Shows where his heart was during the game.

Ah well, I'm happy. No more predictable "run, run, pass" sequences.

Interesting that Whisenhunt picked Tennessee over Detroit though. Locker and Chris Johnson over Stafford and Calvin Johnson?

Tennessee Titans hire Ken Whisenhunt to replace Mike Munchak

The Tennessee Titans have hired Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt to replace Mike Munchak as head coach, sources say.

Prior to current position: He began his coaching career at Vanderbilt, where he coached the Commodores’ special teams and tight ends from 1995-97.

Good for them. They have an established QB so he won't screw that up with a training camp competition...

Oh, wait.

That will be interesting. No real QB to speak of. A couple of head case players too.

The hate here for Wiz is just mind boggling. He coached us to the greatest season in Big Red history & people still bash him. Yes, he had a hand in its downfall but we've moved on with new blood...almost every coach is hired to be fired at some point & when you don't have a big time QB the HC is gonna sink with the ship, in which he did.

I do agree that he should've taken the Lions job, but who's to say it was gonna be available because I'm pretty sure he wasn't offered it.

Since he is from the South, and has lived/coached in Nashville before, maybe he just found Nashville more attractive to live in than Detroit?

Pay would likely be the same.

Sounds like he had a choice of the Lions and the Titans. If so I can't blame him for wanting to live in Nashville instead of winter in Detroit. NLF channel is reporting that his boy Russ Grimm will be joining his staff.

Per Rappaport the Lions sent their private jet to SD to pick him up this morning and bring him back to Detroit thinking it was a done deal. Wow that quite a turn in events.

 laughable & ridiculous

I've heard from a couple of San Diego fans who think that's exactly what happened. They say having to prepare for three interviews during the week took him away from focusing on their playoff game and want the NFL to keep interviews from happening until after a team is eliminated. I really doubt that the team would have performed much better if Wiz hadn't interviewed but fans like to blame stuff like that for a loss.

I think his terrible approach and game plan for the Broncos defense speaks for itself. 1 passing yard in the first half despite having a pro bowler like Rivers and some very good weapons in Allen, Gates, Green, Woodhead etc.

NFL: AroundTheLeague ‏@NFL_ATL Lions sent owner's private plane to San Diego to pick up Ken Whisenhunt today, according to @RapSheet. Whiz did not get on that plane.

And I'm not a Cardinals fan so I'm not "bashing" on him for what he did here or what he didn't do here.

Are those same fans complaining that they have Mike McCoy as a head coach considering they got him in the same manner?

Man. There has to be more to this story than what is being reported. Locker and Chris Johnson over Stafford, megaton and Bush? Wow!

SOmetimes especially in the playoffs things just don't work. Poor execution players overwhelmed etc…. Whiz more then showed he's a good OC your complete offensive resurrection and River complete turnaround proves that.

There is a reason he was the hottest wanted HC candidate on the market.

Im gathering BIM is right. He and likely his family wanted no part of living in the Detroit metro area and I can't say I would blame them.

Whisenhunt was completing his duties Monday as the San Diego Chargers' offensive coordinator after the team was eliminated Sunday in the AFC divisional round by the Denver Broncos. The Detroit Lions had planned to send their team plane to San Diego in an effort to further evaluate Whisenhun, but sources say Whisenhunt asked them to put those plans on hold until he was finished with his season-ending business with the Chargers.

Sounds like he was dedicated to the Chargers first.

I hate to let facts get in the way of a good rant, but they said he interviewed for an hour with each team. These interviews were not your typical all day type.

Yep and they were spread out over three days and all flew to him.
