Pre-Arranged - sure.

I would imagine that the Suns have learned their lesson from the Timberwolves' fiasco with Joe Smith.

I never did follow exactly what happened on that deal.

I don't remember the specifics, but basically the Wolves signed Smith to a one-year deal for cheap with the understanding that they'd give him a bigger deal afterward, the same way the Suns had done with Manning. But they were foolish enough to put it in writing somewhere, which made the illegal negotiation very easy to prove. Smith's contract was voided and Minnesota was penalized several draft picks, although over time the penalty has been reduced and at least one draft pick was re-awarded back to them.

Moral: Don't make under-the-table deals, because you will be in big trouble if you get caught.

With no draft picks?

I can't really imagine the Bobcats will make any deals until they know who is available and what everybody's deals are going to look like.

The Bobcats will be able to take up to 29 players. With everyone being despirate to unload bad contracts, they will get a lot of offers including unprotected draft picks. The team will have only 15 roster slots at most.

I am still confused about the math. Supposedly the Bobcats have less cap space than other teams. Ordinarily, a team is responsbile for the guarenteed salary even if the player is waived. Is this true for the Bobcats, os is the original team responsible? What ahppens to the cap?

I thought it had already been established in previous threads that they are definitely responsible for paying all guaranteed contracts they receive, but if they waive the player, then that number will not affect their cap number.

So conceivably, they can take White and then waive him. The Bobcats would still be responsible for the money left on his contract. We could then sign him to the minimum ( :) ), and then he would make that minimum from us, plus the rest of his previous contract from the Bobcats. If Jahidi signed for just one year with us, it's a no-lose situation for him. He makes more money while playing for the same team! :)

I'm more interested in figuring out a way to dump Eisley. Obviously the $3 million is not enough to take on two years of a bad contract ($6.4 million next year and $6.9 the following year for a total of $13.3 million). Assuming that the Bobcats thought a lottery pick was worth $10 million (a big if), would the $10 million count against their cap if Eisley was cut? If it did, then there is no way they are able to do it. If not, then it is at least an outside posiblity.

It wouldn't count against their cap, but it would still count against their bottom line. $10 million is an awful lot of money to pay to someone who won't play for you.

No, it's $10 million for a lottery pick. I'm guessing that is too much, but for a franchise that costs in the hundreds of millions, who knows?

That's assuming they waive him in the first place, which doesn't seem very likely.

Did slin ever post where he got that rumor from??

NO.

My focus was on Eisley.
