Crawled Through 5 FB Fields
If the Bidwills had the foresight and the cajones to make the move now---it should be done now. No, actually, they should have given him an "exit interview" yesterday.
Do we now understand why Anquan Boldin can't stand Whisnehunt?
Do we now understand why Ben Roethlisberger can't stand Whisenhunt?
Rather than rehash the whole QB debacle...which really started back in 2008 when Whisenhunt declared Leinart as the starter after Warner, with one arm, courageously led the previously hapless Cardinals to a 5-3 second half by lighting up the scoreboard to the unprecedented (in Arizona) tune of 28 ppg. That's right, 28 ppg.
And you declare Leinart---who struggled with the offense early in the season before he got injured---as next year's starter?
Fortunately for the Cardinals, Kurt Warner didn't give away any power to the naive Whisenhunt...because he saw what the competition was and he continued to believe in himself---in his offensive teammates---and he methodically set out---with Todd Haley in tow---to wrest the real power of the offense away from Whisenhunt.
Mission accomplished.
But let's fast forward---beyond the three QB scenario debacles involving ML, DA and Max...to what has recently transpired with 5th round draft pick John Skelton, whom the Cardinals flew to NYC to meet with and traded up (by giving up a 2009 starting CB) to get.
First of all...with DA and Max having been beaten to pulps in an offense that is about as QB friendly as the Bad New Bears'...and Skelton the only man still standing...
Whisenhunt cannot bring himself to name Skelton the starter...says that Skelton has had no reps with the first team (you would think that with as piss poor as the QB situation was this year that even Rex Hadnot or even Tommy the ballboy would have gotten at least a look-see...but there are reasons why the toughest QB by far on the roster did not get one snap with the first team, because Whisenhunt's "great" practices are bikini contests...they are pitifully soft, which is why the 49ers rip the Cardinals' heads off, by contrast...which is why you can actually believe a 180 pound Max Hall in shorts can look the part of the starter...too bad that the games aren't two-hand touch, because once he was put in a game, you actually had to fear for Hall's life---honestly---didn't you find yourself worrying about that?)...yeah the coach says that Skelton had no reps and thus there was a 5 day determination as to whether Skelton or UFL backup QB Richard Bartel, signed on that Monday, would start the next game. Unreal.
Utterly unfathomable.
But wait a second...Skelton had to imply to the media that the coaches told him his "chances were good" that he'd start. Wink, wink.
Wow.
So he does start...and what does he do? Despite the coaches, he helps lead the team to a win...and not only that...for the first time since Kurt Warner was taking a horrendous bludgeoning by the Saints, taking a licking and as tough as he was, keeping on ticking...there was a Cardinal QB on the screen who actually didn't look scared out of his mind.
Not bad for a nobody worth earning any previous reps.
Hey it was easy to overlook this kid...he's 6'5" 240 pounds, can run around and make plays and will even lower his shoulder on you when he bolts from the pocket...in fact, he will even fight tooth and nail to stop a defender from scoring on a tipped pass...
Yeah, he's easy to overlook, when the practices are wet bikini contests.
You all saw what happened from there...
Here Skelton was on Christmas night and despite the defense rolling over as they always do whenever collars get tight...he picks the team up even to the point of converting a 4th and 15...and finds a way to put the game in the leg of Jay Feely who, like Dominoes' Pizza, delivers!
It was a moment's reprieve from a nightmare of a season....at a wonderful time when we even pray and think there's a chance for peace on earth.
"I swear it's not too late." RIP John Lennon.
So what happens a week and a half later?
We learn at halftime, despite the fact that Skelton rebounded from a first-class pounding in the first quarter to throw darts between bracketed WRs to bring the team back into the game...that Whisenhunt was "not pleased with Skelton's play early in the game..."
Then after the defense does its customary folding act, and Skelton is running plays that quite frankly were predictable and poorly timed---
Skelton is replaced by the street FA who nearly won the job in Week 13, a mere one day into the job.
Boy oh boy...I mean, what the freaking fidge...instead of rewarding Skelton by maintaining a faith in him, the modus operandi was to hey let's see what someone else can do.
Yesterday, while Whisenhunt was supposeldly being honest for the first time all year with players who underchieved in games...Skelton...standing alone by himself...did what any self-respecting competitor should do...he told the meadia that he hated to be pulled out the way he was and that at the very least HE believed he earned at least a shot at the starting job in 2011.
You really think Skelton---after the way Whisenhunt treated him---has a chance in hell playing for this coach?
At least Skelton has courage...and the right mentality.
This coach is a non-commital coward.
And when you tell the team and the media that the close losses are harder to take than the blowouts---that says it all---no wonder his players oblige him. Hey it's easier to deal with a blowout loss---hey, you just get mad for a seond and get over it in a hurry.
That is the biggest loser's mentality there ever is...and this is one of the many reasons why the coach is toast...guaranteed by this time next year.
Think the players really respect Mr. Soft?
They'd rather just suffer an embarrassing loss and take it easy on him.
Don't worry John and Mr. Skelton---wait it out another year. Support is on the way.
