Under the radar guy, and I think a future NFL HC, Jeff Brohm from Purdue. I was actually going to mention him BEFORE the OSU game but thought the Buckeyes may tarnish his image. OOPS.

There's been rumblings that Lincoln Riley may be headed to Cleveland to re-unite with Mayfield.

Dave McGinnis had more support from this board after much greater futility. It's wild.

I think that's only because he was the DC of a team that actually made the playoffs a couple years earlier... and for some reason, he seemed like a wanted man one off-season, almost becoming a coach for the Bears, IIRC.

I think he is young enough to do so. Same reason Saben went when he did. Riley can fail in the NFL and still go back to college at an age where he can get a premium gig.

One good thing about NFL gigs vs. college, is that head coaches don't have to worry about recruiting as much too.

Norv has a much larger history than just 1 year in Carolina. IMO he's a cross between Jim Fassel and Vince Tobin, personality wise.

As a coordinator he's great. As a head coach, not so much. He was actually fired when his team had a winning record a season after he won a playoff game. That's hard to do. However, Joe Bugel would be a step up from Wilks.

The rumblings derives from an article by Albert Breer, Cbus, that you can read by clicking here. It is, in my opinion, an interesting and fascinating read about how NFL people by the bunch are travelling to Norman to talk with Riley.

If it doesn’t work out with Wilks, my preference right now would be Lincoln Riley as head coach, Todd Bowles (if he is also let go) as defensive coordinator and someone experienced as offensive coordinator (in the same way as Harold Goodwin was an offensive coordinator, the same way that the Rams has a run game- and a pass game coordinator and so on) to help Riley.

I still question how well the skill set of a college coach translates to the NFL level. I’d bet that 60% of a college HC’s time is dedicated to recruiting and fundraising. You’re hiring a guy who likes to schmooze.

I think that you’re better off trying to poach one or Riley’s assistants as an OC.

I agree with a guy like Urban Meyer but a guy like Brohm seems to be a guy who is cutting his teeth in college and has some NFL pedigree even if as only a backup QB.

I’m not sold on Riley at all. He may just be a right place/right time kind of.coach and he has a tremendous athletic advantage over 99%of the teams he plays against.

Brohm has no advantages in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Go look under the Sean McVay tree.....there's gold in them hills.

I love the way you’re thinking but has the tree even sprouted yet considering he is only in his second year as HC, he’s still the youngest HC and he calls the plays acting as his own OC?

I have heard that college HCs hate the schmoozing and recruiting. In the NFL you only need to schmooze the owner.

For those saying Lincoln Riley, do you think he would leave a premier college job for an NFL rebuild?
Yes I do. How does he follow up on Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield. Made the playoffs last year and looks good to do it again this year. Drop the mike and run to the NFL. He could always go back.

P S He makes $4.8 million now.

I'd say there's bigger talent disparity in college as well. I know we're trash now, but I think coaching and scheme matters way more in the pros, where every team has comparable talent, IMO. I haven't watched Riley, or college ball enough to have a strong opinion either way on him though.

No love for Kliff Kingsbury. I could actually see him jumping to Packers. He may not have the dominant W - L record of some, but he has more experience than Riley. Comes from the Mike Leach tree as a player.

Playing career
1998–2002
Texas Tech
2003 New England Patriots
2004 New Orleans Saints
2005 New York Jets
2006 Cologne Centurions
2007 Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Position(s) Quarterback

Coaching career (HC unless noted)
2008–2009
Houston (OQC)
2010–2011 Houston (Co-OC/QB)
2012 Texas A&M (OC/QB)
2013–present Texas Tech
makes $3.9 million 39 years old. Major QB guru. Only coach who recruited Patrick Mahomes and Bakder Mayfield as QBs.

Prominent quarterbacks that have started multiple games under Kliff Kingsbury:
