Sorry for quoting Admiral James Stockdale (running-mate of H. Ross Perot in '92)..... Anyways, I'm wondering the following....

1). When and how did you find out about ASFN?
2). When did you begin following the Cardinals?
3). What's the most memorable Cardinal related moment you
have (positive or negative)?

Well, I initially came across ASFN in late June because I was looking for Phoenix Sun's draft party info and someone had linked the URL of this site to another one......

I moved from Metro-Detroit back on 5/12/02 and I have followed the Suns since the mid-late 80s and the Diamondbacks since their inception (when Buck Showalter was named their first manager).
I must admit that I really didn't really begin to direct any major interest in the Cardinals until last year's exhibition games and this forum has served as "Cardinals 101" for me......

Probably a positive for you..... Was witnessing Gramatica's GW FG in OT last season vs. the Lions in Tempe........

So, here's your opportunity to respond to these questions.......

1. - Link from AZProSports
2. Fan since when they moved here (to AZ) although I did follow Lomax when he played. They were also my favorite NFC Team in the late 1970s - with OJ Anderson & Hart & Company.
3a. The Place - SDS. The Game - Vs. SanDiego, last game of the season. The Play - Field Goal BABY!!!! to launch us into the playoffs.
3b. - The whole playoff game vs. Dallas - so much satisfaction.

1) Migrated over from the other board when Skorp and Ed etc started this one.

2) Born in Missouri, lived in California since I was 18 months old. Became a Cards fan in part because of the St. Louis connection, and part I just liked the uniforms. Biggest reason was Terry Metcalf.

3) Without question the TD by Mel Gray against the Redskins, I think it was 1975? It was the highly controversial one where Pat Fischer smashed Mel in midair and the ball popped out. Mel was in the endzone, the refs huddled for several minutes before referee Silva called it a TD. We won the game in OT. I know they changed the rules after that game I always felt like we caught a break but it was just so TENSE waiting for them to signal one way or the other it was remarkable. I think CBS had switched to the game or else showed the entire thing on replay because I KNOW I saw the play and then the long huddle.

1) I came here from Bob Chebat's board. Before that I was directed there about three years ago by someone on the Republic's Cards Corner.

2) 1988

3) The playoff win was pretty huge. One moment that really sticks with me though a Cowboys game when Tobin was coach. I think it was actually the year that he got fired (not positive). My father-in-law and I were sitting on the top level, north end. There were Cowboys fans everywhere. We won. Awesome.

1. Just followed the herd from AzProSports board.

2. I started following the Card's in the mid to late 70's. I was only about 6 or 7 when I realized they were the local football team. Never did get to go to a game live.

3. The playoff victory over the Cowboys in 98. At the time I was living in Dallas, worked with a bunch of Felon fans, and our good friends were big fans of the Cowboys. We went to their house to watch the game, and I was all over them the whole game, it was great.

1) Section 11 brought me over from the AZ Central Cards Corner.

2) Former lifetime Viqueens fan, had no team here for a few years, when we got the Cards I jumped in with both feet. Season ticket holder since 1988.

3) San Diego win that put us in the playoffs...and the playoff win over the most hated cowpuks.

4) Negative: when "you've got a winner in town" ran off the field before his last game was even over.

I have been here over 4 years, I was recruited to Cardinals Corner from the ESPN boards. I think there was only like 15 regulars on the boards back then. I am amazed at how large the group has grown.

I have been a fan since the team arrived in the valley

1) This is the latest chain in a series of boards – the first one being the old Cards Corner on AOL. Actually had dinner with Jeff Gollin and several others from that group at Montis before a Cards / Cowboys game.
2) Born in St.Louis and spent my early childhood in end zone seats at Busch Stadium with my father. This was the days of Hart /Metcalf/ Gray etc. I vividly remember watching that game on TV that Russ refers to above.
3) Beating the Cowboys in the playoffs in 1998. Only being there would have been better. Since I was at the Charger win, that comes in a close second. I remember walking along 5th to the stadium prior to the game, and everyone was in Cardinal gear and pumped up -- I told my wife -- this is what every game is supposed to be like.

1. Followed link over from the old board.

2. The day I moved to Phoenix in 1991 (bylateral Chiefs fan)

3a. Memorable "Negative" - A buddy of mine asking me if I had heard that the St. Louis Cardinals were moving to Phoenix, Arizona. When I asked him what they were going to change the name to, he said they weren't...their gonna still call them the Cardinals. I thought and still think that was so stupid!

3b. Memorable "Positive" - Hearing Micheal Bidwill a few months ago hinting about the possibility that they will either change the team uniforms and/or the team name when they move into the new stadium. Hallellulah! ;)

1. Last fall, I was touring the azcentral board ans Section 11 had posted the url to this site. This site was MUCH better, and have been here ever since.

2. It has snowballed. I became a really big fan 1 year ago. I've been a fan since about 2000.

3. Billy G. kicks the game winning field goal against the Cowboys and the Cards climb to 4-2. That whole week was great.

I started out on the "official site" slowly migrated over to the azprosports board and then over here.

Most memorable moment was 1998 Cowboy playoff game.

Worst was, the Minnesota preseason game where Rob Moore went down and others went down.

Started out at the old AzProSports board and migrated here when it got up and running.....

Growing up back east I follwed the NY Jets and then the Bears after moving to AZ. Once the Cards came here I have bled red and black since then. Even when I moved back to NY I was still Cards all the way - it was great to see people around NYC wear Cards gear :)

Most memorable -

Jacke kicking the field goal vs SD to put us in the playoffs - running onto the field with everyone else - and going nuts. Then the win in Dallas just topped it all off.

Worst: Hogeboom at QB, Tupa @ QB, Gelbaugh @ QB, Schroeder @ QB, Krieg @ QB.........among many other things

1) Also followed the AzProSports crowd over.
2) When they came here. Got season tickets in '97 ('96? Whichever) when I graduated. Then things really turned ugly.
3) Hopping the fence to get a piece of the goal post action in '98.

Didn't you guys have to endure Stoney Case? HAHA..... We (back in Detroit during the '00 season) had the misfortune of him also..... If it wasn't for his Week 16 errant pass versus the Bears, the Lions would have clinched a Wild Card Berth that year, which prompted owner William Clay Ford to hire Millen and "Moronwhig"....

1. I'm pretty sure I saw a link over at azcentral and just came on over.. I lurked for like 8 months until i finally got a name here in June.

2. I was born in AZ, but was a Jets/Giants fan cause my dad was. But I do have a picture of me at the age of 4 with my "Phoenix Cardinals" shirt on.. so..

3. My most memorable Cardinal moment was the first game I went to with my dad. It was Cardinals vs Giants, but I think that was the moment I switched from a Giants fan to being a Cardinal fan.

1) Been around for multiple boards which have resulted in THIS board.

2) Began following the Cards the day I heard they were moving here. Went to the Green Bay Packers/Denver Broncos preseason game played at SDS, the season before the Cards came here, actually met Bart Starr, shook his hand and talked with him briefly.

[edit]
Been to nearly all of the games in AZ. Missed one preseason (sold tix to AzCards21) and one regular (sold tix to Skkorp) last season, otherwise I've been to every game. Have had season tix since 94, bought from scalpers before that.
[/edit]

3) Cards' victory over Dallas in 1998, and the Chargers' game that preceeded it.

came over from the old board. funny, 'cuz at the time i was pissed that some of the guys were organizing this upstart board. i was new to that board it was my best source of info. man was i wrong. this board has rocked since day 1.

season ticket holder from day one in az. was a rams fan prior to that.

most memorable moments:

of course the sd game. my two bros and i ran down onto the field, took pics, took sod, took used gatorade cups. dad just sat in the stands.

can't remember the year, but it was attending an eagles game. it was gut-wrenching. cheesy was literally laying on the floor in between the bleachers at one point 'cuz he just couldn't watch. i'll be cheesy will remember the game better.

again, an eagles game, this time on television. my buddy mack wong and i meet cheesy at a tiny little dump of a bar owned by two cleveland lawyers who shed their former careers and moved out to LA to open the bar. everyone in the bar was rooting for different teams. as we were the only ones rooting for the cards we got a crappy television, right above the front door. end of the eagles game, plummer throws a "bomb" - it's underthrown - martay adjusts, makes the grab and saunters into the endzone - CARDS WIN! all three of us, when the ball went up, fell to our knees, when it was caught both cheese and i hit the floor with our bodies screaming and mack jumped with joy. everyone in the bar was clapping and laughing. they loved us. it was great.

1 Stumbled onto this board when trying to find Cards info after several college players I followed signed with the Cards.

2 Latesixties

3 Jackie Smith had retired or was forced out.....Dallas picked him up going into the playoffs................he dropps a touchdown pass that hit him in the chest with time running out that would have given an all be it ex cardinal a Super Bowl ring.

1. I went from the cards corner to the azprosports board. somebody, I believe it was sec 11, recruited me to come here. I'm glad because this board rocks.

2. 1974 or 75? my dad, who was from st louis, brainwashed me to cheer for the cards when I was like five or six. we lived in OKC at the time (I of course still live there). I remember hart, tilly, roger wherli (sp), mel gray and terry metcalf.

3. I guess the playoff win over the cowpies. lowpoint would be that monday night thrashing where buddy ran off the field. I believe that was christmas day 1994 was it not?

To me, there is a difference between us "long timers" and those who adopted the cards when they moved to the phoenix area. But not much of one. I would say the long timers are a little more loyal (and fanatical). but "its all good". Posters like Sec 11 represent the "adopters" admirably and in fine fashion.

1- Started on the ESPN board. Good times with jstadvl, AZCubbie and some others. jstadvl saved me with a message to go to AzProSports (Thanks Bro!) and then moved on to here with the group.

2- Followed the Cards pretty heavy when they first got here and went to a few games. Moved to Denver during the '98 playoff run. Made a hundred on the charger game and made 200 on the Cowboy game. Been die hard ever since (couldn't get into the Broncs any longer). Had flex packs for 2 years and then moved on to season tickets this season. Sorry for messing up your run there BIM! But I do appreciate the tickets.

3A- Beside the obvious playoff games. Williams 104 yard Interception for a TD against the deadskins! That was sweet!

3B- That pass interference non-call in the endzone during the cowpunk game still pisses me off to no end. I have never seen such a blatant foul in my life and probably wont ever again. What the heck were the refs watching! Idiots! Watch were the ball is going! Geez!

Deep breath. Another deep breath. See Louie, You got me all worked up. Man that was the worst.

1) Follwed some of the more learned posters over from AZProsports.

2) Needed a change of pace after living in Denver, so I jumped on the band wagon for the 1993 season and never looked back.

3) One of the initial burns I received from the bleachers at SDS in my first game there - I was woefully unprepared for that experience.

1. Followed from the old board.

2. Being from KC and a big Chiefs fan but the Cards have always been the NFC team i followed. Had season tickets to the Wranglers, Outlaws, and now the Cards.

3. Larry Wilson playing with cast on both hands and intercepting a pass. It is great being able to talk to Mr. Wilson on occassion at the games.
