Hyperbole much?

He who will not be named is and always will be the worst. Banks is in there somewhere.

I'm dying to know who he who will not be named is. Frye getting to 15 ppg is gonna be tough, especially without Amare collapsing the paint. I'm with E on that one. He's just not that good.

Frye - We as used as a diversion last season and not a "go to" guy. He can shoot and is not likely to be any worse than KT on the pick and roll.

That's a pretty low standard. I can't remember Frye ever being an option in the pick and roll period last year.

The odd thing about this team is that Frye may do better on the second team than as a starter. The reason is that it gives them four three point shooters. I'll admit I'm not convinced Warrick is a starter quality player, but what I don't know is whether he can play defense.

Scouting reports aren't positive:

"He's a below-average defensive player because he lacks the strength to battle against big power forwards on the blocks. Despite good leaping ability, he's also a mediocre rebounder and shot blocker. He needs to improve his pick-and-roll defense and should be doing better given his quickness and length. If he did, it would help offset his lack of physicality in the paint. "

I'm guessing he who will not be named is an Aussie with the initials "LL".

The Suns seem to have a propensity to get thin, weak players. Unfortunately, they are just not able to handle physical front lines.

I only say that because Frye really can't do anything but score(from the perimeter),and the Suns felt the need to lock this guy up to a nice long term contract to offset the loss of Amare's 23ppg..... yet if we can't expect Frye(an offensive player) to increase his offensive production by 4 or 5 ppg to a mere 15ppg then yeah,i think that qualifies this as maybe one of the worst FA aquisitions this team has ever made. Follow me?

You've peaked my curiosity on this "he who will not be named" as being the worst Suns pick up ever. :)
Hardaway?
Googs?
Dont say Shaq.

That would get my vote but I suspect the FA acquisition via sign and trade of Penny Hardaway would be most Suns fans "unnamed" choice.

Yeah Longley sucked. The Penny situation was just really unfortunate.
How about Joe Barry Carroll? :) Ugly.

Honestly, I had completely forgotten Joe Barry Carroll. Now that you bring him up though, wasn't he the reason Golden State got rid of Robert Parrish?

I really don't remember about Parrish.
I just remember our FA center being 7 ft tall, 225 lbs soaking wet and OLD.

And the bad news is, we've had even worse centers than Joe Barry Carroll. I remember sitting courtside once (and I do mean once) in probably 77 and I watched this big goofy guy named Dale Schlueter go running across the court during the pre-game warmups. I swear, he tripped over his own feet as he ran up to a group of boy scouts that were guested that night. He backed up Dennis Awtrey with the same lack of coordination that he exhibited that night. And I'm not even sure he was our worst center ever.

I don't know what any of this has to do with what our Suns will be in the upcoming season but I'm afraid we might long for the days of Carroll and Schlueter. We look to be awfully soft out there if Robin is anything less than 100 percent.

It's Longley. You can't even mention his name over on .net. It's like Lord Voldemort... everyone just says he who will not be named.

My first thought was RR (Rick Robey) not LL... RR might not have been worse than Luc but we gave up an all star (Dennis Johnson) to get him from the Celts.

For some reason the Suns simply cannot accurately evaluate bigs... even when they get someone who looks rugged, he turns out to be a marshmallow inside. That does have some signs of changing of late with our draft picks - Lopez, Lawal and Dwayne Collins. Sadly Earl Clark is more like a 'traditional' Suns pick - except he's soft in the head as well as his body.

Guess from the write-up in the AZ Republic, that we will sign both Lawal and Collins, then add Dowdell (over Reynolds) as a 3rd PG, Unless a deal sending out Barbosa get done, that's all the Suns will do. Says we will NOT use the $12.5 mil TPE. To me, Dowdell looked fairly good yesterday, but has looked abysmal today. I think we could sign a vet PG or combo that would help us better and cost us just about the same. Here's a list of guys who could probably be had on the cheap or vet min that I like for the Suns.

Available players:
PG - Anthony Carter (******My pick*****)
PG - CJ Watson
PG - Bobby Brown
SG - Larry Hughes
SG- Kieth Bogans (defense)
SG - Shannon Brown
SF - Tim Thomas
SF - Jarvis Hayes
PF - Josh Powell (***Second Pick for big***)
PF - Ike Diogu (*****My pick*****)
PF - Juwan Howard (Think he's going to Miami)
C - Brian Skinner (knows the system)
C - Steven Hunter (knows the system)
C - Josh Boone (***2nd Pick***)

Josh Powell, thats an interesting name. He had an effective season as a role player for the CLIPZ a few yrs ago. We may have that guy in Lawal already though.
How is Juwan Howard still playing? How old is that former Fab fiver?

Damn, the Lakers 58th pick in the draft, 6'9" 274 lb PF named Caracter (UTEP), went for 20 & 10 and looked good doing it (according to report from LV). Lawal looks to be a decent find, but jeez, we need a 274 lb PF a lot more than the Lakers do! Oh, well, maybe he really sucks on defense.

Harangody (Notre Dame) the 52nd pick by the Celtics must have been hard for the Suns to pass on. From looking at him I'd say he's around 6'10" and he's strongly built but he's a 3pt gunner. Maybe they were put off by the fact that he rebounds well, too... 35 in 4 summer league games...

Other than giving up DJ -- a Championship mentality and the best defensive Guard in the NBA -- for a 3rd string Center, the presence of Rick Robey actually was a plus to the Suns front court.

With 212 lb. Alvan Adams entrenched at Center and playing 20 feet from the basket (Channing Who?), our Power Forward each year (Amar'e Who) became the de facto Center.

When Robey became that Power Forward, we actually had a Center on the floor. Albeit a career 3rd string Center.

It didn't give us superiority at the Center position, but it did preclude a Power Forward going up against 1st string Centers.

6 and 5 with great defense for the Blazers last year.

Wow not bad, and i see he played in 73 gms. He's a year younger than our very own Grant Hill.
Hill is still putting up good numbers but J.Howard has played in 1116 career gms vs 868 for Hill.

Is that an argument for or against Hill having more left in the tank?
