So lemme guess? You guys also have a rivalry with the Bulls now? This is getting stupid.. :D

No, no rivalry. Just don't like Jordan. I have no thoughts on the Bulls organization. Actually wanted them to win last year.

I see what it all is now.. Your a hater.. You hate everything that is better than your beloved lakers.. Celtics have more titles, so you hate them.. Jordan has more rings than Magic, so you hate him..

So?

Plenty of players have more rings than Jordan. The NBA doesn't revolve around MJ especially when you're talking about championships.

Jordan beat magic, so I hate him. I don't care about his number of rings. I also hate Bill Laimbeer and Isiah Thomas because they are dbags, and I'm really close to outright hatred of detriot not only for the Bad Boy era but for 2004 too.

I only happen to hate Russell because he's a Celtic and many of those rings came at the expense of the Lakers.

But yeah, if you get the best of my team, I'm not happy about it. I don't stew for a few weeks and then be happy again. It's on until we get back over on you. And the Celtics are owed three more Lakers titles so I can throw it in the face of every Celtic fan I ever cross. It's why I think the Kings are a friggin joke, but the Suns and Spurs are a challenge.

My dream super bowl would be Seattle vs San Diego. Two underrated and under-appreciated franchises on the west coast.

Both run/pass balanced with good defenses and being ignored by the media.

Hey 82, do you want any of my relatives phone numbers in New England so you can give them a call and ask them if they care about the Lakers? If so you will find out -
  1. that many in my family have colorful language
  2. that you are wrong, Boston fans do, still, hate the Lakers
You are right about the Yankees-Sox though.

earthsci - I don't need to speak with your relatives buddy... I was in college from 1982 thru 1986, at a school 30 mins outside Boston! I was THERE during the heat of this "rivalry"!!
You don't seem to get my point... On top of everything else that I mentioned in this thread, this debate about the Lakers - Celtics "rivalry didn't even carry over to the younger generations! Yes, anyone who was old enough to have lived through these years and cared enough, might recall the Laker-Celtic battles... But these are cities separated by an entire country! They don't play each other but a few times throughout the season and are in different conferences!
There is simply NO comparison... none...

It's LA vs. Boston, but it's more than two cities.

It's East vs. West.

East coast vs. West coast.

It's better that they're in different conferences because when they meet in the postseason - it's for a championship.

When teams in the same conference meet they play for the right to move on and play someone else...

no there isn't a comparison - not looking to

but i can't think of one NBA rivalry that is better or longer sustained

to this day if you talk to the consesus of celtic fans they wouldn't list the knicks in their top 3 most hated teams - it would read lakers with a combination of sixers/pistons

and this is with such a strong regional rivalry with NYC

And you aren't getting my point. The rivalry is alive and well in the minds and hearts of Celtics fans, young and old. What do you base your expertise on, living there 20 years ago? The young ones are being raised to know that their #1 enemy is the Lakers. I'm kind of confused as to how you can tell me that this isn't a rivalry anymore when you aren't there.

What is there no comparison too? How heated the rivalry was in the 80s and how it is now? No kidding. Any rivalry is going to be more heated when two teams have to deal with each other in the championship. Until this year the Celtics have been crap since Len Bias died.

OK... within a very strict NBA perspective, the Lakers - Celtics rivalry was the biggest and baddest in the game... I'm really suspect of just how big and bad it truly is today.
And as Osprey rightly concluded, there isn't a comparison to the Boston-NY rivalry, or even the Yankee-Red Sox rivalry...

Good debate those fellas...

earth - for the record, I was born and raised in the NY area and went to college in Rhode Island. I am 43 years old and have only lived in AZ for 7 years.
My entire family, and my wife's entire family still live in CT. I am also extremely close to all of my best friends who still live in New York and New England...
I will no longer offer my bio... It's out there and it is what it is...

Why is there something wrong with it? I made it clear that I always go with teams in my division first, then teams in my conference. The same is true with college football. In bowl games, I always go with teams from the Big 12, with three exceptions, those being Kentucky (my brother goes there), Oregon (my father went there) and Virginia Tech (my best friend goes there).

If the cowboys can't win it all the only team I would pull for is washington(if they make it) I dislike them for obvious reasons. but I respect their HOF coach and that team for what they went through this year. I could care less who wins if dallas isn't playing.
