Ricardo Lockette - WR- Fort Valley State- 6-3.1, 200lbs runs a 4.4 fourty.

 

[Hypothesis]

I like KJ Wright for the Cardinals SILB position, but it's a total projection and really depends on what we want our SILB to be able to do. One area that Wright struggles in is playing in space which is why I believe that he would benefit more being bracketed by a SOLB and WILB. He looks fluid enough to drop into hook and curls zones, and has experience playing down hill which would be nice to have inside. I love his size next to Washington's and you could afford to let him develop behind Paris Lenon who is pretty solid with his technique. The disadvantage is that while Wright has played a bit on his feet, moving from the outside to the inside is a pretty big move. You really don't know how it will turn out.

You beat me to it. I also like Vereen an awful lot. The other player I like also is Bilal Powell RB, Louisville.

He's not better than his twin, who was a solid first rounder last year. Mike Pouncey is a marginal first round pick this year. He struggled mightily early in the year snapping the ball at center.

I think you all are nuts if you don't want Pouncey. He fixed his fumbled snap problem midway through the year and he was the best run blocking O-Lineman I watched this year, and I'm a Badger fan.

Meh, but he was terrible early on. Terrible.

If we want a guard, then I'd look at Pouncey, but I think we've got ok guys at guard right now.

For a real sleeper that I like at a position of need for the Cardinals is tight end Collin Franklin of Iowa State.

Franklin is 6' 5" 252 lbs. and lean and could easily put on another 10-15 lbs. He doesn't have great speed but hes the type of guy that always seems to be open.

He caught 54 passes in 2010.

I had a chance to watch him in several games this year and he has great hands and great body control. He made a lot of difficult circus type catches and shields the ball well from defenders with his body.

Iowa State played a difficult schedule that included Big 12 teams and non-conference foes Utah and Iowa so he faced good competition.

He didn't get much pub as he was a Juco transfer but he might have the best hands of any tight end I watched this year.

Overall, there seem to be certain positions which are really deep this year, and others which aren't so hot.

I am not thrilled with the depth or talent at TE or RB (though FB seems a tad deeper than in other years).

Although there are 3 - 5 OT's who look solid, none appear to be 100% Can't Miss prospects.

There are a few centers who look good, but - per usual - all but a few could use a bit more sand in their pants.

I like the depth of talent at guard.

I haven't gotten around to looking at CB's or safeties that closely, but the pool of talent at DT, DE and OLB looks extremely deep (meaning that teams willing to risk waiting til later rounds to draft a DT should have a pretty good group of available guys to pick from).

As usual, the ILB group looks a bit thin (very few big, physical types) but the scouting services continue to blur the lines between edge-rushing DE's & OLB's and ILB's & OLB's - so some positions may be deeper if you're flexible enough to move guys around.

One other thing - compare the overall rankings and position rankings of players among the various scouting services and you'll find a wide disparity this year (i.e. one scout's #2 OLB may show up #8 or later on another scout's OLB board). Which means that - depending on how you evaluate - there figures to many more surprise "sleeper" picks in this draft than normally expected.

At least, that's the way I see it.

OLB-Kenny Rowe-Oregon: I watch a bunch of Pac 10 football, and while he is totally undersized to play DE in the pros, Kenny Rowe makes plays rushing the passer. I think his best fit would be at the WILL position in the 4-3, where he would free to run and make the plays that did in college.

WR-Jeff Maehl-Oregon: This is my biggest sleeper. Smart wide receievrs who run good routes, understand defenses, and make clutch catches make it in the NFL, and that is what Maehl is. He looks average, he times average, but when he gets in a game he plays great. The catches that he makes in big games is unbelievable.

Love maehl, great hands, always open, one of those guys who is tougher than you expect him to be and better after the catch than given credit for. Not a blazer but gets open consistently.

Forget where I saw it but someone had Rowe on their avoid this guy like the plague list I think he worked out really poorly at one of the AS games, nothing but speed rush and was totally overpowered in the practices. I do agree at Oregon he had sacks and they always seemed to be at huge points in the game, but he apparently has really hurt himself post season so far.

RB Vereen from CAl; he kind of reminds me of MJD; he is 5-9 and around 200lbs...

Yeah Shane has GREAT feet, amazing balance and tougher than you would think. I don't know if he'll ever start but then I didn't think Forsett would make an NFL roster and he has. Vereen is more durable than Best. he's not that much slower than Best but not as "sudden", Best has insane acceleration he's there and then he's gone, Shane is a bit less explosive.

OLB's-Brooks Reed/Jeremy Beal: I am not sure if these guys count as sleepers, but I think that playing outside in the 3-4, these two have shots to become starters very quickly. Both are probably SOLB's, and make enough plays to be factors in many games. Of the transition guys, I think that these two and KJ Wright bring the most value to 3-4 schemes.

At worst, Maehl is Ricky Proehl. At best, guy could be Wes Welker.

Agree especially on Reed.

My first thought would have been John Moffit, but after the Senior Bowl he is no longer much of a sleeper. I was very impressed with WR Vincent Brown. I thought he had the best hands out of any receiver at the SB.I think he goes in the third round now though.

I think TE DJ Williams could drop because of his size. At only 6-2 235 many teams will overlook him. I think he is the best receiving TE in this draft. I think he will be the next Jay Novacheck. Not much of a blocker, but a really good target down field.

*Don't include the QBs or guys like Moffit and Wilson who everybody has had listed.

Greg Little (WR-UNC) has always been a guy that I thought was going to be really good.

6'3 220, with good hands and plays extremely physical. Goes over the middle, lowers his shoulders and drives for extra yardage, good blocking reciever. 3rd or 4th round prospect.

Greg Jones 6'1 240 (MLB-MSU) is a guy that I think is going to be a really solid MLB despite his height. Probably a 3rd round prospect. Was a terror at MSU, range was sideline to sideline, and he looked like a great athlete who could really fill the hole and lay the wood (no homo)

I'm having problems finding videos because apparently nobody cares about MSU's football team.

*He's not 6'1, closer to 5'10.

Marcus Gilbert 6'5 320 (OT-Florida) is a guy that I think will be a solid player and worth taking a look at in the 4th round or so. Real good run blocker, definitely not a LT. would be an average pass blocker even for a RT. Would be an interesting prospect at Guard.



Nathan Enderle 6'5 233 (QB-Idaho) Other than McElroy I think Enderle is the best 5th round or later QB prospect. Prototypical size and arm strength

I posted about this guy earlier in this thread and no one seemed interested. I'm reposting about him because he had a geat pro day yesterday and outperformed most tight ends invited to the combine. I don't think hes a sleeper any longer.

He had the most catches of any tight end this year(54) and was 5th in yardage.

Had he been invited to the combine he would have had the most reps on the bench, been 3rd in the vertical jump, 2nd in the broad jump, 5th in the 40, and 4th in the pro shuttle.

These are great results when you consider that several of the participants at tight end were little more than big wide receivers. Colin is a full grown tight end that could easily put on another 10-15 pounds. He has great hands and catches the ball away from his body and made a lot of circus and one hand catches. The bench press is very impressive.

I think he just made himself a lot of money yesterday.

He's starting to get some press and may even end up being in round 1, but a guy that gets overlooked alot is DT Corey Liguet from Illinois. He made plays all year for the Illini.

Kendall Hunter - 5'7 200lbs RB Oklahoma State

Short back but is built very solid. Was a workhorse at OSU. Very reliable runner with outstanding burst and quickness. Makes people miss both in the hole and in open field. More quick than fast but has enough speed to not get caught from behind too often. Perhaps has the best vision out of any back in this draft. Possibly the best balance as well. Thick legs and a very very low center of gravity. Despite his short size, displays surprising power. Won't push a pile for 3 yards, but is hard to bring down. Instant acceleration and change of direction ability. Runs in such a way he avoids taking the big hit. Very reliable receiver out of the backfield. During Senior Bowl, showed that he is a very capable blocker in pass protection. Displays good patience and uses his blockers very well. Very similar to Jamaal Charles.

Despite missing most of his junior year due to an ankle injury, surpassed Barry Sanders on Oklahoma States all time rushing list.

Absolutely. Looks to be like a smaller Mark Ingram type IMO. Well-rounded....but smallish.
My last St Lou mock had him getting picked in the 4th rd. I'm hoping for that anyway,he'd be a solid value there....and a great pick for St Lou.

Jermaile Hines: he's in the Adrian Wilson mold in that coverage is his weakness but he's a good tackler and very athletic.

Justin Boren: he won't be great but he could be a solid starter at OG for many years. He may even be able to slide over and play center.
