Interestingly, pre-VY the Titans were 17th total offense, 9th in the pass and 23rd in the run in 2005 (down from 11th total, 10th pass and 14th run in 2004.)

With Young they dropped to 27th total offense, 30th in the pass and 5th in the run. So Young actually hurt the overall numbers, and a case *could* be argued (I'm not going to argue it) that Chow coached around Young's problems (installing plays from Texas that VY would be comfortable running) and got the most out of VY while minimizing the risk. Then rode defense and the rushing game to get wins.

In any case, Cameron has LDT and a very good offense, and Chow has had a good offense everywhere he's been and has tutored several NFL-level QBs who are enamored with him. Neither has been a head coach. Not that I'd be sad with Cam, but that I'd probably be more comfortable with Chow.

Voted Rivera.

If they hire Sherman or Pendergast I'm canceling my season tickets and chewing out Mike Bidwill next time I see him at Delux.

Oh, didn't see Pendy was on the list. I don't even consider him a candidate, but if he were hired I would probably cry openly in front of men.

Grimm, guys is an ---->offensive line coach<----- and an assistant and I heard that he was next in line to take over the Steelers if Cowher decides to leave. Ron Rivera might be a pretty good choice too. I don't know much about the rest of them but I wouldn't like Chow. I'd take Carroll just to get him out of USC. :) I wouldn't like Pendergast as a head coach. He's fine where he is.

What's wrong with Sherman btw? He did well with the Packers...just wondering.

It's his 4-12 ending that is freshest in people's minds. I think people want the opposite of what we just had. Sherman would be seen as a retread. It's been the trend around the league to hire "disciples." That's what people want here.

The first 3 weeks of 2006:

Kerry Collins was 42-90 with 6 Interceptions and the Titans scored 33 points.

Travis Henry had 30 carries for 82 yards.

In week two the Titans RB's (Chris Brown and Lendale White) had 14 carries and gained 31 yards.

To go from that and the pasting they took in week 4, Vince's first full game at QB, to where they finished says a lot about the coaching. It also says a lot about how bad Collins was. Even Norm Chow couldn't coach him up.

I chose other, because my #1 is Carroll. I would not be mad at all with Rivera though. Either of those two, and I am as happy as can be. Anyone else, and I'll be disappointed.

sherman had some outstanding years running the pack...he is a ron wolf choice and i think viewing him as a retread is a bit harsh....plenty of good talent has come out of green bay coaching around the league right now and we can start with holmgren/reid for openers...yeah he had a bad year writing him off early in this race may be a mistake.

just thought of something...as the "poll" stands right now as few as 64% and as many as 100% (CP) of those who voted would be disappointed who got the nod!!! by the way it sounds like cower IS going to hand up his whistle.

They never announced his name but interviewed him according to media reports and it seems pretty long interview.

I'll also :bang:

Portland Oregon these days.
I think I could handle most of them, if they really did have a great plan. Pendy is a wonderful guy, but I'd prefer to see him get a few more years coaching defense -- and see him coaching on winning teams -- before he moves up.

I won't be disappointed in a lot of the options out there. Honestly, there are some really good candidates in the mix and a heck of a lot of unknowns about most of them.

Unless it is Sherman or Clancy, I personally will be fully on board with whatever coach we choose (of those that have been mentioned so far). Sure, I have my favorites, but there are pros and cons to all of them. Regardless of who we choose, it looks like they will be much better x and o guys than Denny by far.

I really like Russ Grimm. At worst, he could build this offensive line up and make it better than it was before he inherited. I honestly think he and Steve Loney would make this one of the better offensive lines in football. Plus, you cannot underestimate how important offensive linemen are in dictating the flow of the game-- thus why catchers always seem to make good managers in baseball.

I follow Iowa State and they still pine for the days of Steve Loney as offensive coordinator. They were very inovative offensively with lots and lots of misdirection.

Give me Boise State's coach above all these guys. Brains and guts. A dangerous combination.

I voted although it won't matter. This team will have one of the lowest paid coaches and the lowest paid assistants in the NFL. We all knew this would happen if Green didn't work out. Everytime this organization spends money and it doesn't work, they tighten the purse strings.

They don't want PC because he would cost too much. So what do they do? They extend RG will hire an "up and comer" and retain low salaried assistance and hire in a couple more.

I'm am so stoked about this new hire!!!!!!!

To the guy who thought Whisenhunt's offense only amassed 98 yards against the Raiders, it was the RAIDERS who only had 98 total yards against the Steelers. Plus, even if they did struggle against the Raiders, which they did, many other top offenses were given trouble by the Raiders defense.

Here's the stats for Whisenhunt's Steelers against the Raiders back in Week 8:
Passing yards: 271
Rushing yards: 89
Total yards: 360
Interceptions: 4

I'm really surprised to hear they might give the head coaching job to Rob Ryan in Oakland. I understand that maybe the players respond to him better, but how is he going to fix the offense?

He would have to completley gut the offensive side of team. I would even consider unloading Moss and Porter due to Curry's emergence.

I'm sure they'd love to unload Moss and Porter but they might have a hard time finding takers, their attitudes and production don't offset their salaries.

I wonder how Moss would do in KC with Herm Edwards and in that offense, but the Raiders would never trade with the Chiefs.
