ASU 247 board is speculating its either Sumlin or a coach that is not currently coaching (not sure if that means a coach that was just fired or hasn't coached all season). Speculation is that an announcement will be made within a couple of days, no later than a week.xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

Anderson says "it's absolutely necessary" to have a replacement in place by the Dec. 20-22 early signing period.

I have mixed feelings on the Graham firing. If the firing is based upon this year's performance, it doesn't seem fair. The Sun Devils overachieved. They were ridiculously inexperienced on the defensive side of the ball and undersized and inexperienced on the O-line. Relatively green with Manny as the new quarterback. They were projected to finish at the bottom of the Pac 12 South. But, we beat Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Arizona and finish 2nd. So based upon this season, we exceeded expectations and Graham earned the job for another year.
And you have to admit, Graham has instilled discipline into the football program. The players GPAs and graduation rate have risen dramatically. And we have perennially been one of the least penalized teams in the Nation.
On the other hand, college football is a cut throat business. Our recruiting has to be better. And looking at the last 3 years, its been pretty mediocre overall. Our talent level hasn't been high enough to compete regularly with schools like USC. And it shows on the field when we play them.
I can only hope that RA has a few aces in his deck that he is ready to play. A head coach that will be worth paying Graham that $12 buyout, money that could be used to try to keep Hurley around. You better bring in a big time recruiting coach or you may be the next to go.
LES MILES. Dont be cheap ASU.
Do you think Louisiana has more high school talent than Arizona?
Arizona colleges should be able to recruit from Arizona, Nevada Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and southern California to some level of success. Not everyone is going to USC.
Louisiana probably has more talent than 3-4 of those states you mention combined.Do you think Louisiana has more high school talent than Arizona?

Not necessarily. Asu's main drawback has always been it's subpar facilities...and now we're top 10 in the country in terms of how nice the team facilities are now. Asu is clearly making a significant investment into the football program, and any coach will see that, and hopefully want to build the team into a contender. I don't see why a coach wouldn't want to be here now.Venables and Schiano are pipe dreams. We are probably looking at Pep Hamilton.
He had 11 million coming from ASU for doing nothing. I could smile and be humble too.Just watched TG's presser, say what you want about the guy, but he is a class act. Sun Devil all the way, professional, no hard feelings, wishing nothing but the best for the players and the program.

So let Miles recruit southern boys to ASU. is there any rules that prevent him from recruiting outside the conference?Uhh
Exactly. The pools of talented high school players is not deeper than the deep South, Texas and southern California. It's the main reason the sec has dominated overall the last 10 to 20 years.

I think Graham was a decent coach...he did his best to develop players and he really pushed hard for them to do good off the field as well. His problem was recruiting...especially on the defensive side. While I'm not too big on Sumlin; he's a much better recruiter than Graham is.My concern (and I think most people) is they could easily hire someone that does worse than Graham!!
Graham has compiled the best ASU head coach record in the last thirty years! The last coach with a better winning percentage than Graham, was John Cooper (1985-87).
