if clark is indeed the guy we're looking at, i could live with that. he's got a ton of potential and athleticism, so he's probably a pretty good gamble with the 14th pick

I may take a vacation from the SUNS this season.
Granted it's only Coro reporting here & i'm over-tired....but when is this organization gonna budge from the stigma?
The guy showed some good defense against other guys his size(i assume)so lets make him a PF and put him up against bigger,stronger guys to give him a quickness advantage....
So whether or not our scouts think this guy is a legitimate prospect or not, we shouldn't take him because he's got some bulk and because he can't get out and run?

Why would they draft someone that didnt fit their system? It sounds like you want the suns to revolutionize their system in order to get the BPA at #14 in a watered down draft.
I can't believe how many people are picking a PG who's weakness is defense. Don't we already have that?

The point is that the SUNS won't draft this guy because he doesn't fit into their sacred small ball up tempo system.... which has been an experimental failure. We're holding on to a system because our 36 yr old PG is the catalyst that makes it go. Thats stupid.

Understandable. I kind of fit somewhere in the middle on the issue, leading me to both agree and disagree with your comments.
I Disagree That:
I don't feel like the system is the issue. I feel our issue is that we have completely forsaken one end of the floor because a guy could shine in our "system" offensively. For example: Offensively no PG in the league is going to run this offense better than Nash. No PF in the league is going to thrive more in our system offensively than Amare. However they are both so awful defensively that it almost completely cancels itself out. In a way we have to be willing to take a step back offensively in order to take some steps forward defensively. I know in theory this makes it sound like we would be cruising in neutral, but I don't think that's the case.
I also think a player such as DeJuan Blair would be too much of a dramatic change from one extreme to the other. This team is constructed to run, and plugging a guy in who simply would not be able to do that isn't bright.
I Agree That:
We are so consumed by our offensive "system" that we are hampering ourselves from ever being a balanced, successful team. The idea of signing Nash to an extension is very disappointing to me. Everyone in this organization understand that this roster is not going to win a title. With the age of our roster and the lack of young talent that we have, baring a miracle, this team won't be contenders for the next 2 or 3 years. I simply don't understand what the point is in keeping a guy around who will be 40 years old when the rest of our lineup will just be maturing (assuming we don't get some big time players in free agency next year). There were points towards the end of the year when I felt Dragic, J-Dud, and Lou showed us how beneficial it is to have a few guys willing to play some D. With the number of impressive wing players in the game today we have no chance of competing if we can't defend them at all.
I also agree that I if Earl Clark is a small forward, then play him at small forward. When we say "He would traditionally be a small forward, but in our system he would be a power forward." If the guy can be a solid/good defender at both positions then that is fine, but how often is that the case? How do we not understand that we can't sacrifice size, strength, toughness, and rebounding at one end of the court just to gain speed and quickness at the other.
We can't ever compete in this league if 4 of our 5 starters are some of the worst defenders in the league at their given positions.
Summary of These Useless Ramblings:
The system is not our problem. Our problem is that we developed tunnel vision and completely neglected the importance of one end of the basketball floor. It's not a coaching thing, its the construction of this roster and the way these players are wired.

Please no Jennings. The guy plays no defense. If your going to start thinking about the future, defense has to be a priority.
