Just for a hoot? If you could only pick one team, which team would it be and why?

My candidate.

Houston Cougars of Art Briles. Case Keenum the hot QB. Mediocre schedule. I don't know if anyone can outscore them. UCLA and SMU are their toughest games.

Yep - the Cougars do look good .... for some reason I like a lot of the "smaller" texas schools from the old SWC

There are still a bunch of them out there.

13 of the Top 25 in Polls are still undefeated.

Boise State has one of the easiest schedules in the nation, and literally plays nobody the rest of the way until they face an OK Nevada team. All the BCS schools still have major challenges ahead of them.

Nevada? You mean the team that destroyed Cal?

Here's the issue. Boise has only been in division one for 14 years. The growth of the football program has far exceeded countless schools who have been D1 (Or whatever it's called now:) for a lot longer), to where they are now a top 5 team, and have lost 4 games since the 2006 Season.

The struggle does come from the schedule strength, as the conference mates have done little to nothing in the past to help that out. Boise attempted to solve this with a move to the MWC, leaving their ESPN tv deal behind to move to a conference with Utah, BYU and TCU in it next year. Since then, all but TCU has gone, so they are in another tough spot schedule wise.

It's clear that the recruiting is getting better, they are taking PAC10 guys who are choosing to go to Boise over "BCS" schools. They take 2 star guys and turn them into 4 stars talent wise by the time they leave.

Everyone holds strong to the strength of schedule argument, because it really bugs them to see Boise ranked so high. There's not much respect for where the program has come, or the games they have been winning, its all about the blue field or strength of schedule. Boise has 4 non conference games to work with, and plenty of teams who want nothing to do with having them on their schedule. Many of the current non conference games were schedule 5-6 years back.

If all these inferior conference schedules are so easy, why doesn't all these other teams go undefeated every year?

This isn't an attack on you desertrat, it's more of a frustration that there's no playoff, and a true way to end the countless college football debate on the playing field.

Not only that, but they've beaten some pretty good teams in that time as well, including Oregon twice, Oregon State twice, VT, Utah (by 30), TCU, and Oklahoma.

I think they've more than proven they can hang with the big dogs.

I am not a fan of Boise St but instead of harping on their schedule just ask yourself how many of the top 25 teams could go undefeated with Boise St's schedule.

I count at least 10 teams and arguements for 12. That isnt NC type scheduling (for whatever reason). When 10 teams could play your schedule and go undefeated, somethings wrong. Of course the answer goes back to a playoff system, but we dont have one. :bang:

I am not someone who wants to see Boise St get into a national championship simply because they don't lose a game against an easier schedule than everyone else. At the same time though, if you go back over the last 4-5 years how often is it that the big dog school loses to a top 5 school but instead loses to some unranked school that shows up that given Saturday to beat them.

What I think too many people lose site of is that going undefeated, regardless of schedule, is a big task, any week you could come out flat and some team can come out and play the best game of their life. Part of me wants to see what Boise does in a National Championship game against a "big school" because I think thats the best answer we are gonna get anytime soon until we get a playoff. But I can tell you this right now....Ill probably take Boise and the points about just about anyone right now as long as its over 3.

My issue is as someone else said, all Boise State can do is play the teams on their schedule and beat them. They can't play teams that won't schedule them and there are teams who won't.

They played Oregon last year and beat them, they played OU a few years ago and beat them. People say last year doesn't count but it does, the rankings at the START of the season are in large part based on last year. That's one of the chief complaints an overranked or underranked team often takes weeks before they end up where they should be because of the bias of the preseason rankings, based on last season.

I don't know if BSU is the best team in the country but i sure don't think OU is either.

I agree 100% Russ... however, unfortunately, all we are doing is merely guessing. As our the voters and even the BCS computers...
Man I wish the NCAA would just get on with it and create a playoff system! 8 team... 16 team... whatever... But just do it already!!!!!

Oh - FWIW, I think Boise St and Utah will go undefeated... Have fun with that BCS! :mulli:

Oregon being #1 has to bolster Boise State somewhat. Boise State beat them last year at home and the year before in Eugene. The coaching staffs and a lot of the players are the same. It would be difficult IMO to make a case that either team is playing at a lesser level than in the past two years.

I think BSU has more than proven it can hang with the big dogs. In fact, I'd consider them as one of the big dogs themselves.

We can only hope for a playoff, because even at #2 in all human polls, boise still probably won't get into the championship. Plus, it would be nice if #9 or # 17 was upset about not getting in rather than someone ranked in the top 5.

The computers love Oklahoma for some reason. They barley beat Utah State at home by 7 and beat airforce by three (Who just lost to san diego state).

They are getting more computer love since texas beat Nebraska and florida state beat miami, but every BCS conference fanbase would be killing Boise state if they only beat Utah State by 7, or Airforce by 3. If you're going to talk schedule strength, the common opponent (Utah State with Boise and Oklahoma) scores should matter as well.

Agreed. And it won't matter, unfortunately if Boise beats Utah State (who, btw, would lose to NAU this year) by 50, because margin of victory is not allowed in the BCS formula.

So how many expect Auburn to jump Boise State in the next computer poll? I know their SOS is much greater and they are really good, but their SOS was better before that last game and they were behind BSU. I bet they're ahead of them next week.

you're probably right, and a few other teams could also jump them. The best non title shot for Boise is a team from the big or pac 10 going to the title game and Boise could be in the Rose Bowl. From there, the chances go down pretty big for a BCS bowl.

Auburn #1 Oregon #2 in the new BCS.

Auburn is good but I have to admit I'm hoping they lose too. I want to see a situation where the BCS has to give Boise State a title shot or admit there is no circumstance under which we will let them play for an NC.

Oregon and Oklahoma would be an interesting game with the way they lineup the game would be over in 2 1/2 hours. I knew OU wasn't #1, Auburn might actually be that good.
