I am willing to bet that there quite a bit of boasting behind closed doors last summer by McD about how he shafted Danny Ainge and got JJ. You could see him trying to hold it back in that interview afterwards. If he actually convinced Sarver that if not for those shenanigans we would have ended up with Tatum instead of JJ, well . . . .

Although I preferred Tatum, I don't think Jackson versus Tatum was a clear-cut choice one way or the other. They both had question marks. Tatum looks better now, but it's still entirely possible that Jackson winds up with the better career.

That said, the notion that McDonough outfoxed Ainge in order to get his guy has always been absurd.

Sarver said that we're at the end of our rebuild and should be more competitive. He didn't say the playoffs were expected or we need to be winning now. He's talking about young players developing and taking time. I really don't believe he meant we should be in the playoff hunt this year or that we'll make moves to try and get to the playoffs this year.
Not sure why you keep saying playoffs when I made no mention of that.

But he did say we suffered through some horrible times but that now “it’s time to start winning” and that’s a direct quote. I just heard it again this morning.

You said that they are in win now mode and I view that as team competing for a playoff spot. Apparently you view it differently and that's fine but that's where the disconnect is.

Player development has not been good. The exception is Booker, and he may have developed himself more than we helped him. I didn't expect NBA All Stars, but Chriss, Bender, Len, etc., should have all been average to a little better than average at least. That our bigs seemed to regress while here is not a good sign.

It's possible Len didn't get what he needed from us but I don't see that as a problem with Chriss and Bender. They were just bad picks. Although, had Chriss been drafted much lower and landed with a functional team it's possible that he would have developed better than he did.
