who's the worst possible candidate? There's your likely answer.

I am not, nor have I ever been, a racist, for reasons that I won't go into.

But isn't it realistic to think that a Coach to lead an NBA team made up primarily of African Americans
would best led by the same, particularly with the experience of having played in the NBA?

IF, and that is a big IF, he has most of the other qualifications to be in charge. Which Jason Kidd, for
example, does not.

I like what I read about Monty Williams.
Just think about it in the reverse. If a team was primarily made up of white players, would it be racist to eliminate black coaches from the search pool? Yes, it would.

The only way to combat racism is to deal with all of it. Racism usually develops when the majority is preferred over the minority.

I have no particular opinion about Monty Williams. But I want him if he is the best coach, not because of his skin color.

Hopefully Kidd is just a rumor based on his residence in the Valley and his availability, like last year. And hopefully the Suns are dissuaded by his interview with the Lakers, not encouraged.

Candidates for the Cleveland, Phoenix, and maybe Memphis jobs will be interested in the lottery, which is still three weeks away. The Lakers have only a 2% chance at Zion, so they'll be selling that job more on location, prestige, and potential free agency and trades.

I don't think it's always the same thing. It's human nature to be more comfortable with people that have shared life experiences. Minorities are exposed far more to our "world" than we are to theirs so ruling them out based on skin color would likely be racist but not necessarily the other way.

I completely disagree. I believe this is how racism is perpetuated. In basketball, they are not the minority. And Igor has been living in their world for two decades.

But we are diverging from basketball, so I will stop now.

Monty Williams would be a good choice.

But just as important if not more important is to get actual quality assistant coaches in the fold.

The Kings are talking about adding Hornacek as an assistant for instance. Igor is someone who should be an assistant.

I would like to see Tom Thibodeau mentioned. I think a more disciplinarian personality might be good. He was also on nbatv a couple days ago talking about wanting to coach again and he gave the impression that he is totally open to developing a young team.

Okay, I'll mention him. I can't think of too many worse choices than Thibs. The game has passed him by, he has zero flexibility and has been known to pit the front office against the team. Hiring him would turn sour in a hurry if we were a well run franchise but, in our current state, it would be like trying to put out a forest fire with gasoline.

I look at the situation a little differently. If we are in the armed forces, you teach your troops the culture and language in order to communicate with the native peoples. It's Arizona. We hire people for Spanish speaking positions. When you learn Spanish, southwest Spanish is so different from Spanish from Spain, because of the culture. Players were complaining they couldn't understand Igor. Igor had a calm quiet demeanor. Players like JJ for one, felt he did not have his back during games with the refs. Probably there was a bit of cultural misunderstanding. I know when I work with European people, they always say Americans are too loud and demonstrative. They have gone through 5 coaches. If they change their criteria from what has NOT been working and are trying something different, I say FINALLY! Try the exact opposite of what you have been doing for pete's sake! LOL!

Did anyone catch if Suns assistants were granted permission to interview?

He's asking if the former assistants can interview for head coach.

Ok, that makes sense. I wouldn't be against Prunty getting a look since he was a big part of those Milwaukee wins. The Suns were the only team to sweep the season series with them, albeit just 2 games but the Bucks did have the best record in the league.

I don't think we should hire him but he might be the only coach worth keeping for the next staff, provided the next coach is ok with him joining his staff. Maybe groom him on the NAZ Suns? He lacks experience so he wouldn't be the right hire for right now. When we're looking again next summer though he'd already be with the team in a way.

I'm only half joking about looking again next summer. I'm not sure who we would hire that I feel has the chance of making it more than a year.

Here is some more info on Prunty I pulled from his Wikipedia entry, it gives his background minus his work as the Head Coach of the Men's Great Britain squad. Not sure how he stumbled into that since he was raised in California but I would guess coming up on the Spurs helped him land that gig.

You must be registered for see images attach

Here's a little more on his time as the GB coach....

Due to changes from FIBA in the qualifying process for the upcoming World Cup and Olympics that conflict with the NBA, Prunty was forced to step down as head coach of the Great Britain men's national team after Eurobasket 2017. Under Prunty's tenure, the team went 11–37 with a 5–15 record in competitive games. Despite the lackluster record, Prunty is credited with creating a close communication culture within the team that kept the program afloat during difficult times, with at least one player on record saying he would not have considered playing for the team without Prunty as head coach.

And the link to his wiki page.

Figured I would put the main stuff here so people didn't need to click over unless they really want to read more about him.

I was. I caught the tail end of a comment on the radio regarding the James Jones press conference. It was something like former assistants will be allowed to interview. That's why I asked. It would be weird to let everyone go, then have them interview for coach. They must have been talking about all the playoff coaches.

If we have a spot at the end of the bench, I wouldn't mind that. I wouldn't give him the head coaching job, but I have no problem giving him his coaching start as an assistant coach.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Crawford in a Suns uniform next season.

I'd like him to be an assistant coach but that's probably down the road.

I'd be all for that. If he wants to be a head coach in the future then I'd let him cut his teeth with the NAZ Suns next year before bringing him up to be an assistant on the Suns. I think that might be the better route to gain experience. It would keep someone out of the spotlight also and allow them to experiment more as well. I know it might technically be a demotion going from being the head coach to an assistant but I would be surprised if an NBA assistant was that willing to go down to be a head coach unless there was some sort agreement in place that they would get the next HC job that opens up.

I think being the head coach of the NAZ Suns would be a sweet gig. Live in Prescott Valley and coaching a team of players who are going all out to make it to the NBA? That's got to be more attractive than going overseas from a coaching perspective.

My top choices

1. Monty Williams
2. Mark Jackson
3.Jay Villanova Head Coach
4, Joger Kings coach that just got fired
5. ason Kidd
6.Thibs
7.George Karl
8.Kevin Mchale
9. Jerry Stackhouse
10 Mike Brown

I believe all of those coaches can take the suns to the next level. Playing solid competitive basketball win or lose. I have no idea how bad the suns are cause I have no way to gauge the coach. All the above except the Villanova coach and Stackhouse I have seen win games in the NBA.
