But now Monty Williams has met with Sarver, and still no offer?!?!?

Do they honestly think that newbies like David Vanterpool and Nate Tibbetts could even be in the same universe as Monty Williams as a head coaching candidate, especially after experiencing flop after flop after flop with hiring assistant coaches to be a first time head coach here, and after reports that players disrespected Igor because he had no NBA head coaching experience and came across like an assistant?

I am afraid this is starting to reek of the reported set-up to hire James Jones' buddy, Juwan Howard, instead of someone who is actually qualified for the position...

Isn't it still a possibility that the Sixers could elevate Monty Williams
to Head Coach if the Sixers lose this series?

The Sixers are up 2-1 so far.

Yea, I heard the Sixers needed to make it past the 2nd round for Brown to keep his job. If Brown does get fired though and Monty takes over the Sixers I wouldn’t mind making a run at Brown. Monty is definitely my first choice though.

Just no more career assistants learning on the job, please.

The only three possibilities worse than that are Jason Kidd, Dan Majerle and Sean Miller.

He's signing the checks and he is a major face of the organization. It makes sense, no matter how much you dislike Sarver. It's not like he's sitting down with the secretary for the VP of Facilities.
Yup...even with the Lakers someone from the Buss family has been involved in major coaching and player decisions...no matter if the GM was West or Kupchack.

For those that bashed Sarver for being hands on in the Monty Williams hiring, I'd suggest reading about what happened to Monty in New Orleans by ownership. It seems he was played by ownership when he was shown the door. He was told that they had to make the playoffs to be retained and he did but he was fired unexpectedly anyways. It goes beyond that but now that I read up on it some I think Monty may have wanted to meet with Sarver before accepting the position. It may have been Sarver pushing for it himself, we don't know. What I do know is it seems Monty was screwed by ownership the last time he was a head coach and apparently Sarver went through a laundry list of his faults with Monty and promised to give him space to do his job. Based on all of that, I don't think Sarver deserves bashing in this instance, provided he follows through and keeps his word to Monty. If he doesn't then he's a liar and should be taken to task for that but not for being involved in this particular hiring because we don't know who called for it, Sarver or Monty.

Here's the piece of Monty's firing from New Orleans. Give it a read and I think your views on why Sarver met with Monty should make a little more sense. It very well could have been mutual or called for by Monty. I'm not trying to defend Sarver, I'm just saying that Monty's dealing with ownership in the past hasn't been good, I can see why it took a little while to hire him despite him being the primary target of Jones and Bower.

In fact, you could probably say it was a necessity for Williams to take the job. It may have been more about Monty interviewing Sarver than the other way around. Getting assurances that Sarver would let Monty and Jones do their jobs. OTOH, I do agree with many and the Somers article that "we'll believe it when we see it." We have heard the same things before. Let's all hope that Sarver has grown and he means what he says. I am cautiously optimistic.

One of the NBA pundits hinted the meeting with Sarver was possibly more Williams interviewing Sarver than vice versa. I don't remember which one it was.
