Right now the Suns have four guards under contract: Johnson, Barbosa, Jacobsen, and Eisley. With Eisley injured, they are down to three guards. If the Suns sign Vujanic, they would have 5 guards under contract going into next season.

If the Suns were to sign a free agent guard like Kobe, Brent Barry, Q Richardson, Ginobili, Turkoglu, Payton, or someone else - this would mean the Suns would have 6 guards under contract. Since I can't see the Suns carrying more than five guards, this presents the following options:

1. Off Load Eisley - This probably means cutting him and eating his contract.

2. Trade Jacobsen - He has not torn up the league but good three point shooters always have some value.

3. Delay Signing Vujanic - This would eliminate the need to do a buyout of his Italian contract.

4. Make Jacobsen an SF - This would mean using Carbakapa as PF and carrying only four true inside guys.

5. Leave One Guard on IR - Probably Eisley if they don't want to cut him.

Are there any options I'm missing?

Enticing Charlotte to draft Eisley in the expansion draft?

Hello Dan. I take it you are new to this board. (This is old ground for most of us).

It works like this: the Charlotte Bobcats are required to draft 14 players from the other 29 teams. Each team gets to protect 8 players and the Bobcats can only take one player from each team. The Bobcats can cut the player drafted without it being included in their salary cap, but they are responsible for the player's salary.

Teams are permitted to "bribe" the Bobcats into taking a player or not taking a player (Memphis is the only team where the latter is a possibility). The maximum bribe a team can offer to the Bobcats to take a player is $3 million plus a draft pick. The money can be used to offset the cost of the contract that the Bobcats would be responsible for.

In the case of Howard Eisley, he has a contract of $13 million over the next two years. If the Suns gave the Bobcats their lottery pick and the $3 million bribe, it would mean the Bobcats would be paying $10 million for a lottery pick. If the Bobcats took Eisley, it would mean the Suns would have an extra $6.375 million in cap space this summer to go after free agents. (Kobe Bryant is the most popular target but a combination of two players is not out of the question).

Would the Bobcats do this deal? It depends on how much they want another lottery pick. There is a rumor out of Dallas that the Mavs would like to trade Jamison for a lottery pick (presumably the Mavs would cover some of the salary since the Bobcats will have only $30 million in cap space). If they wanted Jamison and still keep their pick, the Eisley deal might make sense.

I'm not new to this board. And most of us are hardly new to the topic because you posted a thread about it every couple of days a few months back. :D

I'm sorry if I misinterpreted the question about off loading Eisley. Dan H made the comment:

Enticing Charlotte to draft Eisley in the expansion draft?

I assumed he was not aware of the process, meaning he is new. Was that unreasonable?

Now I really am confused about what the question meant.

I guess it was because you asked if there were any other options, and then Dan posted what he thought could be one. Simple. :p
