Well Jon, then the D'backs own website is wrong:

Bio:Rick Schu joined the D-backs as hitting coach in 2003, after serving as a hitting coach for three of the Diamondbacks' farm clubs.

Coaching Career: Spent five seasons as a coach in the Diamondbacks' organization ... served as hitting coach in 1998 at South Bend (A), followed by three seasons (1999-2001) as hitting coach for the Class A California League ... spent the 2002 season as hitting coach at Class AAA Tucson.

Playing Career: Played 17 seasons in professional baseball, primarily as a third baseman ... made his Major League debut in 1984 with Philadelphia ... also played with Baltimore, California, Detroit and Montreal ... played professionally in Japan in 1993 and 1994 ... owns a career Major League bating average of .246 over 580 games.

Schu was hired in 2003 and then took another post when the DBacks hired a different hitting coach (former player, can't remember his name). When that hitting coach was fired in 2007 Schu resumed the post.

He was hitting coordinator for the farm teams.

The Dbacks site is 100% wrong

I clearly remember Seitzer getting fired mid-season in 2007. If you don't then you probably weren't following the Dbacks too much then.

Thank you.

FWIW, since I mentioned Rudy Jaramillo earlier in this thread here is what he has done with some ex-Diamondbacks: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/rangers/2006-08-24-jaramillo_x.htm

As a side note it also mentions in the article that he wants to manage.

Schu has been greatly involved in batting for the D'backs since he joined in '03. Yes, Seitzer was brought in for a spell, but Schu remained heavily involved all the while... Here's a quote from Reynolds to support this:

"It's a shame," Reynolds said. "I've known Schuey since '04; he came up with a lot of these guys in here, knows everybody's swing, and he works his (butt) off."

In any event, I feel pretty confident that Byrnes, Young and Snyder will continue to suck no matter the manager or hitting coach. Time will tell...

It wasn't too long ago that people blasted me for saying Snyder is turrible.

they are terrible as well. Leaving Valverde in to throw 75 pitches against the Rox in the playoffs.

With the exception of Joe Torre (;)), no coach is perfect. You only have 25 players to play. At some point, the players need to step up and play... or not... Unfortunately, the D-backs have made some expensive bets on guys who simply can't play...

The only REAL expensive bet was Byrnes, which neither Josh nor BOBO wanted resigned. That was all Jeff Moorad, who then hightailed it to SD.

Thinking now he did that on purpose to give his desired team a shot.

Perhaps... but I would also say that 6 years and $32 million for Young is very, very EXPENSIVE! :bang:

5 mill per? not that expensive

On a team that is struggling financially, to lock a minor leaguer (that's all he is) up for 6 years at 5 mil per, that's just bad... There are guys in AA that can put up better numbers than Young.
The D'backs can't afford these sort of mis-steps..

The Chris Young deal will cripple this team more than the Eric Byrnes deal

I know... I just don't see anyone coming in as a manager, waving their magic dust on some of these guys and turning them into MLB caliber talent.
Young is just not good... period... talented? Yes... but not MLB good...
Snyder can't hit, period... His types are a dime a dozen in baseball.
Byrnes is shot. He's a side-show...

Ain't no way Grace or Hale or anyone else can change any of that...

Tell us how you really feel though. :D

Snyder hasn't committed an error in 2 years. He is by far one of the best defensive catcher in the majors today. And I would rather have a catcher who can call a game and keep the errors down and keep runners honest than a offensive catcher who can't throw a guy out. As for his days being numbered, try again. He signed a 3 year extension in the off-season for about $15 million. He isn't going anywhere.

have you watched any games this year? he doesn't make plays. Hardly any catchers commit errors. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats...it=78&qualified=null&season=2009&seasonType=2 look at 2008 and this year. he'd be in a minority if he had too many errors. This year ball is going 5 hole more times than I care to count. Defense used to be his only advantage over Montero but now that gap is barely visible.
