Who would you take for Suns? A C or SG?

With the PG and SF spots rated number two each at their positions in the NBA we certainly don't need those spots. Amare came in at 15 for the PF spot as a rookie!! We don't really need help there. However, Joe Johnson rated 29th out of the top 30 at SG, and we had no centers in the top 30 ratings at all. The obvious need is at Center, but it's the same old story for the Suns, is there a center at 17 that can help us? I say no. I am leaning on taking a two guard if one falls down to us. There are more good SGs in the draft than Centers. The odds are better for us to get help at SG than C. I wouldn't be sad if we took a good SG, even with Jacobsen and JJ, and Penny on the roster. It's obvious none of them are making that spot competitive for us. On the other hand, with the low productivity we have at center, almost any decent center could make this team. I am split here. If a good SG is passed up by other teams because of need picks, I go SG, if not then take a flyer on a center.

At #17, a Center won't be available. That's a given. I would go for a long SF type.

There will be many European big men available when the Suns pick.

Wasn't that the dude with bad ankles? I like his size, but man, I get nervous when talking about centers with bad ankles.

Oh yeah, I get those Europeans confused... :D

I've noticed he's been steadily falling down the draft board over recent weeks. I am a bit intrigued with him though.

No, that is Pavel Podkolzine.

Just a reminder guys...Ilgauskas has had foot problems and was an all star last season.

Sabonis has had back and ankle problems...even collecting social security I would have him on my team.

We don't need a center to carry the team. We don't need a center to play 35 minutes a night.

We need a guy who can play 20-25 minutes a game and give us solid production. That's it.

The only SG that really intrigues me that MIGHT be there when the Suns pick is Pietrus.

Dwayne Wade is Tony Delk all over again

Reece Gaines is like a less talented Joe Johnson

Delfino isn't a good shooter.

Diaw is a defensive stopper...not a shooter.

Really Joe, unless the Suns swing a trade or Pietrus falls to them (by some miracle), I think we will go with JJ, Penny, and Casey.

Wade is bigger, more explosive and a better ballhandler than Delk.

Neither Pietrus.

Delfino is bigger and more rounded than Pietrus.Delfino is a better player in a better team.
I would take him over Pietrus.

I would be very disappointed if Suns would take Pietrus. I don't like him at all.

What I meant by Dewayne Wade being Tony Delk is that he is a undersized SG (6'4), which the Suns don't need.

In fact, I wouldn't even list SG as a Suns need. If you combined Penny and JJ's stats, I think you would see that our SG situation is fine. I also believe that JJ and Casey will continue to progress.

What the Suns need frontcourt help. When Amare got in foul trouble, the Suns chances of winning went in the toilet.

Marion wore down from playing too many minutes.

Voskhul plays alright, but should be a backup.

We have legitimate need at backup SF, PF, and C

I believe that is why the Suns are scouting Lampe, because he can play all 3 positions.

LOL

Well you have seen him not me. I have just been pouring over draft articles on people and there is a nice hype building up on Pietrus.

In general though I find you to be pretty on top of international players so I will take your word for it.

Yes, there is.
I have the feeling that this (over)hype is coming from Chad Ford who obviously has never seen Pietrus and is basing his opinion on nbadraft.net.

Sorry I don't get this probably because of my terrible english command.

Hmm..let me try another way of saying it.

You have a good eye for international talent.

Does that make more sense?

I agree with Chap. I think the Suns will take a versatile frontcourt player. It will probably be one of the Europeans, but don't rule out Brian Cook. He is my sleeper in this draft. I think he is going to be a good NBA player.

Cook could play F/C on Suns team, can shoot, and could be good pick but the 1 game I've seen - athletically and defensively could be a problem. If he measures 6'11 in shoes, could really help team - I'm not very high on Collison and haven't seen West (combo forward? that could play a few positions)... whats the scouting report on those that have seen David West?

I would rather have Mario Austin than West.

I thought Brian Cook was a good shot blocker and solid defender, but I haven't checked his statistics.

Honestly I don't think that he was an All-Star last season so much because he is such a good player as they had to have a center on the team and they just couldn't think of anybody else in the East. He pretty much got it by default.

And I don't see the point in trying to get another center. We already have one. It's just that the coaches don't play him. What makes you think that by getting another center that it will force the coaches to play him? Until the coaches make a concerted effort to move away from always playing small ball there is no sense in even thinking about getting another center.
