Per Sando's chat...

http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=26442

Doug (NJ): i know its an often asked question but whats the latest on anquan boldin?

Mike Sando: (12:44 PM ET ) Good timing. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, just put out the following statement: "Reports that Anquan Boldin is seeking a contract worth $10 million per year are inaccurate. We recently made a proposal to the Cards for less."

That is pretty big news if true. The beauty of Twitter.

So he has been asking for 10 mil up until "recently?"

So if the Boldin camp is now only asking for 9.5 million a year, that is supposed to make them reasonable?

This reminds me of the Plaintiffs' attorneys who get their clients to start out asking for $100,000, when their case is worth $5,000. Then when they reduce the demand to $10,000, they claim they are being reasonable.

Well, at least we will be able to say that he isn't asking for Fitz $$$..;)

Remember that Boldin is no higher than #2 on the priority list of people getting re-signed. If we were to even consider re-signing Boldin, we would have to get Dansby done right away. Otherwise, we wouldn't get Wilson, who is the clear cut #1 priority at this point.

If this is true, and Rosenscum's offer was reasonable, I hope he is patient

It was nothing but pure speculation on anyone's part around here claiming that Q was asking for 10 million per season. Everyone just assumed that's what he was looking for because of Fitz deal.

Several times I asked for someone to show me a news clip with a quote or a video showing that Q or Rosenhaus were asking for a 10 million per year contract and of course nobody could.

Yet somehow around here it was preached like the gospel.

Sadly if an untruth is uttered enough times it becomes true. :(

Of course the one thing to keep in mind is that the 10 mil. figure has been bounded about for some time now & this is the first time Rosenhaus has claimed that that's not the figure they're looking for. This may be a change of mind rather than an incorrect number being floated.

This statement says a few of things to me:

1) That as of recently proposals have been exchanged from the Rosenhaus camp. Which shows me Q is willing to re-sign and that trading him as the only option is not a foregone conclusion on his end as he has made it seem.

2) That Q is willing to accept a role on this team making less then Fitz.

3) Conversely that Q and Rosenhaus are really upping the ante on trying to get him out of here even negotiating through the media for other teams.

All in all this has solidifed some things and thrown even more into question.

Nothing that comes out of Rosenhaus' mouth should be trusted. I'm sure they made a proposal for less yada yada. The number that matters is the guaranteed money IMO. I doubt the Cardinals want to fork over the size of signing bonus Q wants after how much they gave to Warner this year.

Considering the whole media and Andy Reid himself all thought it was 8 to 10 mill, why is it such a leap that everyone thought it to be 10 Mill.

Also Drew never said they werent looking for 10 mill a month ago, he only stated they have made an offer less then that TODAY.

Didnt say that he was looking for 10 Million a year a month ago either. It has been purely speculation. Reid's comment which I read could be interpreted two ways. He could have meant 10 million annually or he could have meant in a signing bonus. Either way he was just speculating himself based off media reports.

You say 8-10 million. I say 8 million is a reasonable # for Q (even though more than we should probably pay) 10 isnt reasonable. Anyone can see that IMO.

Agents, Players, Coaches and GM all deal with Perception Management. A lot of posters keep asking for proof of when something was said. It is not what was said, but the perception created around it. Perception management was coined by US Military but is now effectively used by PR firms.

I appreciate & respect your opinion, but I don't feel that 8 mill. is reasonable considering that Fitz. is getting about 7 mill. per/yr. I would think 6-7 mill. per would be reasonable.

IIRC, the Card's offered Boldin about 7 mill. per before Boldin said he wanted to wait until after Fitz had signed first. Crazy aint it?

Boldin has not come out publicly and specifically said he wanted $10 million a season, but it doesn't take much to figure out why he waited for Fitzgerald to sign before he was were willing to do a deal and to think that he now doesn't want to be in the same ballpark as Q is just silliness IMO. Ron wolfley was on the NFL network yesterday, and stated that Q was looking for a deal around 8 to 10 million a season. "IMO" I think it's the 30 million in guarantees that Fitz got that has set Q off more than anything and he is looking for big dollars in guarantees and that is where the hang up is.

Kinda like when an insurance company refuses to pay a 25,000 when they know they injuries are substantially higher and liability is clear. Instead, they pay their own lawyers the 25,000 bucks and wait out the plaintiff to settle the case for 10,000.

Well, I guess that applies here. I was speaking to Rosenhaus' recent comments.
