If Warner wants to stay, why not?
Why get rid of Edge? If he can understand he is getting payed well to play his role.
Trade Boldin? The more I think about it, the crazier it sounds.
And Dansby? He is a leader on a defense that don't have many leaders.
Berry? Again a perfect leader and can still bring it if kept fresh.

Of course there will be some turnover on the roster. Green, Okeafor, Pope, and a few others , but why are many, ( including myself), think the best thing to do is break up this thing we got going?
Why can't we just add to it and build on the foundation we've got started.

Many of these current Cardinals are learning and mastering the role they are being asked to play. That's what the good teams are very good at doing.

We've got plenty of cap space to keep this team together. If we can add a couple of middle tier FA/s and a have another good draft , we will be in great shape.

Whether you want or think we should let Warner go, what is the downside of keeping him? Or what would be the upside of trading Leinart? Warner could get hurt the first play of the season and we have Leinart to fall back on. Leinart could get hurt (if Warner was no longer here) and suddenly one of the most potent offenses in the league would be relegated to Brian St. Pierre...yeah right.

Maybe I'm goofy or high on kool-aid ( I just watched our playoff victory again) and just about every player on this roster made some kind of contribution.

And what if God happens to be a Cardinal fan this year and we were to be this years team of destiny? Wouldn't we be crazy to make major changes?

THIS ONE IS FOR YOU KOC. TIM WE DID IT.
I agree with you. Does anyone really think we would be in the playoffs if Matt and Hightower started all year? I dont, and dont think next year we will have the same success without Warner, Boldin, Edge, Etc.....

You are going to get a number of people who believe that maybe this team does better if it was Leinart's team. That's how grateful some are tho I guess. :grabs: I'm surprised no bashers have taken the opportunity to bash Warner on this thread.
Both should be starters next year and I admit to being biased, but I haven't seen enough of Matt Leinart to garbage Warner's last two years if he wants to play. Matt should be a starter somewhere. I think it'll be Matt Leinart's team next year tho.

Read Don Banks on ESPN then ask about Edge.

He is playing for a new contract [somewhere else], apparently something he has done before. Then he slows down.

I am ok with Edge leaving just because he has slowed down a lot. In regards to Warner, Dansby, and Boldin I would not let anyone of them leave. Why break what is not broken. I want more winning from this team and if it means sticking with a old Warner so be it. If Leinart gets mad on the bench oh well we are winning and that is all that matters. For the second time in 20 years I have been super happy with the Cards. Keep the team together and add a few pieces and another great draft like the OP said.

I would love to answer this question......but I will wait till after the season.

There is good reason to do some re-shuffling on this team.

I don't know how we can say Edge has slowed down much. When he came to the Cards we had a miserable running game then with Edge we were back to 3.6 YPC and over 1000 yd seasons. This year again I thought our running game was decent then Whis made the change to Hightower who had one great game then nothing after.

Warner is still to me one of the more accurate QB's in the league and has one of the quickest releases. I also think we should keep the core Warner, Edge, Dansby, Wilson.

I agree with most of that, but Edge doesn't want to be here anymore. At this point in his career he wants to pile up yards and get his 20 carries a game. Like he said, his departure is 'mutual' and he really made it sound like he wasn't coming back no matter what.

Let's see how the game Saturday plays out. One thing for certain, the Cardinal braintrust has some key decisions to make going forward. This will be the most critical year in recent history for Rod Graves and company.

Edge is gone let's just face it. I can see why. The thing that gives me some hope for Hightower is that he'll likely be much better next year after a full off season in the program. Look at the jumps guys like Breaston and Watson made from year 1 to year 2. From all we've heard, Hightower is a hard worker so i can see him making a marked jump in performance next year.

But he is under contract. The league has become a game where teams have 2 or even 3 running backs splitting time. The game is too long and grueling to think one guy is going to carry the team all season.
Peterson/Taylor
Williams/Stewart
Jacobs/Ward
Brown/Williams
How about Edge/Hightower?

If Edge leaves we definitely need a durable replacement. Do we really wan't to spend a #1 pick on a RB? Keeping Edge would not be the worse thing that could happen. He just needs to understand his role and accept it.

His role isn't worth 5M a year. That's more than Q will get next year barring an extension. (I think)

I think I'm happy to see Edge go.
Fair enough he was brilliant on Saturday...but where has *that* Edge been since he got here?

Too much compared to what? Drafting an unproven rookie in the first round and paying him a gazzillion dollars? We are going to have to pay somebody to take his place if he goes. Would you feel better with Aaron Stecker? How about Rudi Johnson?

The offense is working fine the way it is. Bettis did pretty good in his last year with the Steelers in a limited role and I'm sure he wasn't getting paid peanuts.

Let's put it this way. I don't want to release Edge until I see his viable replacement.

I totally agree with you; back in 1999 we dismantled our team after making the Playoffs the previous year. Jake got a big contract, New Stadium in the air, and what does the Team do. It lets Larry Centers, Jimar Miller, Lomas Brown all go without any compensation. that totally wrecked the team core and it took 4 Coaches and 10 years to get back to the Playoffs. We need to follow what Philly and New England do keep your core stars and build from within. We have a future Super Bowl Team in the Making. Why start to destroy what we have started to build. We need to get another DRC type of Corner, Power RB with speed, Better OL players, and DL Players which you fill with off Season FA. Keep "Q", Edge, Dansby, Okeafor, Ta boy. Bring in SUGGS from the Ravens. et al...!!!

Keep them all minus Edge.

I like Edge and I think he has gas in the tank, however he's made it abundantly clear he wants to be in the hall of fame someday (which I think he will) and has delusions of surpassing Emmit in yards. He realizes he needs more yards NOW as the clock is ticking big time. He's quoted as saying he didn't come here to become a pass blocker. The guy wants yardage more than he wants his team to win. Let him go to a place like Detroit where they'd be willing to oblige.
