I think trading Amare for Garnett is way beyond reasonable. What has Garnett done in his career that Amare can't? Also Garnett is older and has a higher salary. I won't take any player off the table when it comes to trades but I do not see the fascination with Garnett especially for perhaps only one year.

Play defense and rebound.

Do you think Amare has any room for improvement other than first team NBA... actually yes. This is the whole point and Amare is only 24. What is Garnett 30? Garnett is not exactly a child prodigy or proven anything IMO.

Amare could improve, but he isn't going to get to Garnett's status (multiple NBA First Team All-Defense selections) before Nash retires.

Play defense and rebound.

While Garnett is certainly a great rebounder...to suggest that Amare can't rebound is ridiculous...

...he's currently the 5th best rebounder in the playoffs at 12.1 per game...above Tim Duncan whose averaging 11.9.

Garnett has proven thus far he cannot carry a team to a Championship. I'm not certain Amare can't. Only time will tell. Anyway, I do not see Garnett as a big improvement over Amare no matter how many awards Garnett has received.

Because it's not. I personally think people just don't like Amare and overlook how important he is because they don't like him, he isn't all warm squishy like Barbosa, he isn't articulate like Nash, he isn't "tough" like Bell. What he is, is a guy who gets to the line in the playoffs and is devloping a midrange game to go along with a damn good face the basket inside game, but he is *****, he is on the cocky side and has tatoos and that turns off a lot of people. Then he gets nit picked until he sounds like a negative. While guys like Barbosa, have "potential." It's all typical fan BS. Reality is, you don't just trade guys like Amare for guys who used to be like Amare or any other guy like AL Jefferson for that matter.

Saying his ceiling is not as high as Garnett's counterdicts many NBA analysts who argue otherwise. He is already 1st team all NBA as a 6'10 center, he came back from Microfracture surgery to play all 82 gamers, he led the team in scoring in the playoffs at 3/4 the minutes and lack of touches he should have been playing and he is 24.

The guy is a stud, regardless of what one or two clouded opinions have to say. Let them stir in their hate, it will be sweeter when Amare brings this team a championship.

I can only shake head seeing how people could call Amare soft (lack of toughness) to back up their proposal to trade him. Have you not seen the playoffs? Who was the guys on the Suns diving for loose balls all over the place? Who got you points late in the game? What he lacks is experience, nobody can doubt his heart and determination.

That being said, I guess the origin for fans not liking him is his reported discrepancy with DA's approach. He may have acted up a little during the regular season, and appeared to be selfish. But he was right that we needed to let him handle the ball in the posts more to improve those skills. Our loss to Spurs had only one real reason, we didn't prepare alternatives to Nash as offensive weapons. That made the Spurs defensive job a little too easy. We won two games on our own toughness and Spurs showing weakness.

Having said that. Does getting a couple more points per game with the best offensive team in the NBA get you closer to a title? KG's assist totals go down because he won't be needed to distribute with Nash on this team. He gets a couple more rebounds per game. Does any of that scream INSTANT title? Please. They are not that far apart stat wise. It's not like you trading KG and dumping Kwame Brown.

At any rate, you can't make a trade based on 1 or 2 years anyway. You have to make smart trades or this franchise could be looking at another 40 some years without a title.

Hello!
a couple more pts and rebounds in games 1 and 5 would have won those games.
would KG have missed 3 pt blank shots at the end of game 1? I don't think so

For what it's worth, I think that Barbosa choked something awful, and wouldn't miss him one bit. The only reason that I'd be hesitant to trade him is that he's one of the few Suns with a friendly contract.

And as a ***** headed guy with tatoos myself, I've got nothing against Amare. I'm still not sure how you could possibly argue that Amare is better than Garnett. Garnett is worlds ahead of him defensively, a much better rebounder, a much better passer, and can score consistently. The only thing he falls short in is free throw attempts.

While Amare might be a stud, Garnett is one of the top five power forwards of all time and a sure fire HOFer.

Say what you want, Amare cost us the Spurs series by taking himself out of 2 games with stupid fouls and a 3rd when he left the bench. In a 6 game series, he pretty much only gave us 3 games' worth.

Having said that, I still think we'd be insane to trade him for Garnett.

Garnett has never taken his team anywhere. There have been other great players who never won the finals (Ewing, Barkley, Malone), but none with such a pathetic string of missed playoffs, flame-outs, and sub-par teams. McHale deserves part of the blame. But Garnett has to shoulder some of it.

ok..
whatever..

No offense meant, but you need to take the good with the bad. That's part of following a team. Maybe being a Cards fan so long has made me appreciate the Suns more. They are consistently good and entertaining. That's about all you can ask as a fan.

i'm a steve nash fan..

when he was in dallas, i was a mavs fan..

now he's on phoenix, i'm now a suns fan..

eventually nash will retire, and i will not retire in watching the NBA..

i don't like to watch a losing team, and imo, if the suns trade amare, they will be a losing team in the future..

That is not the fault of Amare though, you can't expect him to come back from a 3 game year and along with the numbers he put up also play great defense on Tim Duncan aka the most babied player by the refs in the nba.

I have said it a million times, but the fault is on our gm, if we had two slouches like oberto/elson on our team the fouls wouldn't have been called on Amare. Kurt Thomas needs to start and we need a backup defensive C, even if it is a slouch on offense someone like steven hunter but who doesn't drive mike insane.

It works for the spurs and it would work for us, Amare and Boris should NEVER be playing center vs the spurs that is just asking for it.

In game 6 when nothing else was going right, Amare went 14 of 28 including 1 of 1 for three, he went 9 of 10 from the line for a total of 38 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, made 4 blocks and grabbed 2 steals. He did it all in a game where he was charged with only 2 personal fouls.

How many guys can put up those kind of numbers on the other team's floor?

Not bad for guy that most experts said wouldn't even be able to play this season..

uh, who the hell said this, much less MOST experts? "MOST experts said Amare wouldn't even be able to play this season?" Seriously - can you even point to ONE person who said who wouldn't be able to play this season, let alone provide evidence that most experts had this opinion?

Skorp isn't an expert? :p

The medical people said it takes two years to recover from microfracture. The long list of disasters including Penny to name our most famous example bode very ill. Perhaps he'd play, but to play at Penny Hardaway level isn't much.

I'm not very good at searching back, but after the second surgery there were a lot of "quotes" from the media expressing doubts about whether Amare could come back.
