that we're going to trade w/Cleveland and somehow make this "incredibly, fantastic, un-believably one-sided in our favor"-deal?? Since Coach Greens' son is handling personel duties in Cleveland (possibility of him coming here after the season which sounds good because I hear he's an up-an-comer) would Coach Green "stick it" to his OWN son?? Somehow I doubt it. Plus, the Cleveland media AND the NFL would cry tampering or some other accusation if Cleveland "gave up the farm." Will there be a trade w/Cleveland?? Maybe. Especially if Fitz' is gone BUT to think they're going to give us EVERYTHING we want. ...And MORE?? I just don't see it. Thoughts?? GO CARDS!!

For some reason, I get the feeling that any rumors of trade-talk coming out of Cardinals camp is a red herring.

If Fitz is gone, then I believe that they will go for Roy Williams with the third overall pick.

Fitz, Mike Williams, Roy Williams, Taylor and Winslow: all are playmakers and blue chippers. If Fitz is gone the other four will be there and Denny can take the one highest rated on the Card draft board.

I agree!!

Trading down ALWAYS scares me. Too many variables. Trading up I can understand. I still remember the sick feelin' in my gut last year when our picks were announced. I see the draft as the "un-official" start of the season. Your team either gets better or worse that week-end. I waited ALL year to hear THAT?? I turned off the vcr and walked out. I DO NOT want to experience that again. That being said, I believe Coach Green & GM Graves have a better understanding of what needs to get done. ...And will get it done. GO CARDS!!

For one, given the opportunity, I think Denny would absolutely screw his son over in this instance. This isn't about family, it's about business.

Second, it wouldn't be selling the farm. The Wadsworth trade was selling the farm.

Third, I probably don't want to trade down anyway.

Fourth, the family issue won't even factor into this, either in reality, or in media perception.

Because that's what draft-fanatics like to do - fantasize over incredible deals they cooked up. (That's what makes the draft so much fun).

But an offer to move from #3 to #7 for an extra second round pick would not be "incredibly, fantastic, un-believably one-sided..." Last year we moved down from a #6 and got a #17 and #18 (and some of us would argue that this wasn't particularly one-sided in our favor either).

Don't forget Jeff...we ALSO traded DOWN in the 2nd round with them, AND gave them our 4th rounder...I'd say an anal raping would be putting it mildly.

just a clarification..I thought his son was going to go from the browns to the Cardinals immediately after the draft..not after the season..but I may have misinterpreted the comments I heard on the radio...

And amazingly no one got the better end of that deal!!! :D

We most certainly got the better end of that deal...Boston was a stud for us for two years, Metcalf helped get us to the playoffs, and I'm not sure, but aren't one of our guys now one of the draft picks from that trade?

I taught they sent us a 2nd rounder that we used on Clement?

Lets assume the article that mentions that the Browns have concluded that there are three players they consider tops -- Gallery, Winslow and Taylor-- is factual.

Shouldnt it give Cardinals' fans pause for concern that Butch Davis, who probably gets as much inside scoop on Miami players as anyone, is willing to give up a high second round choice to get Winslow or Taylor?

If nothing else, it says at least one other NFL organization considers Winslow and Taylor to be bonafide playmakers.

While I love the idea of getting an additional second round pick, I would suggest everyone look at past drafts on the "hit rate" of the top half of the second round-- its less than 50%.

I would just hate to see the Cardinals go from having their choice of playmakers to having to settle for whomever is left -- with just a second round choice to show for it (dont get me started on Northcutt)

Wadsworth was the beginning of the end for Bob Ferguson and his failure helped kill off what had been growing fan interest.

David Boston helped destroy Mac's control over this team and ultimately helped get Mac fired. David also severally hurt fan's opinion's of Rod Graves at a time when it mattered.

It was just horrible drafting. And if any of you still think Wadsworth hadn't already proven to ownership, before he got injured, that he was already a bust, you just won't view the history without bias.

Hindsight is 20-20. I don't think there is anyone on this board who - at the time - didn't think the trade involving Wads, Chavous and Clement was the heist of the decade.

In terms of player selection, I think Fergy did better than most people given him credit for. Some of his busts (Walker? Fatafehi?) are playing better for other teams than they did for us, so it may have been a function of the coaches failing to develop players.

I also think Fergy - instead of putting his foot down - may have caved in to management in an effort to be a "team player." That's usually not a good idea, because in the aftermath of the disasters caused by bad decisions forced by management, the "team player" inevitably gets canned.

So ? That was the position we wanted him to play as well but he refused as CB are paid more.

So, the Cards (Ferguson, Mac, Tobin, etc.) were ready to give up on Andre Wadsworth after all of 36 appearances and 30 starts? He had eight sacks over three seasons.

Good lord, no wonder we left Darwin Walker leave after a below-average training camp.

By the way, Fred Wakefield has 42 appearances over three seasons and 6.5 sacks. And he's a "keeper". I know that one was a #3 overall pick and the other was an undrafted free agent, but what you posted, Skkorp, was character assassination.

I know...I wasn't trying to make a dig at the team, just showing that though the players may not all still be with us, the trade at the time was good.
