Engineers GOT no charisma.

They got plans.

And pocket protectors.

And TI calculators.

No charisma.

:dcr:

Says you!

MCD, thank you for fighting the good fight. We can build something later to make charisma.

Mitch, you have way too much time on your hands!! Let me make this simple. I've been a Cardinal fan since 1963. Until Whiz came along, I experienced ZERO, ZERO, ZERO, ZERO playoff wins! Coryell won 2 division titles, but got spanked in both playoff games. Whiz has 2 division titles, 4 playoff wins, an NFC Championship, and a SB appearance where we came within a hair of winning. This team LOVES him & plays their hearts out for him. Talk to me when that changes. Until then, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah!

Hey PA don't short change The Snake & those '98 Redbirds...they did beat the hated Cowpies in Dallas for IMO one of the top 5 wins in franchise history. :D

Mitch, I certainly feel your frustration. Sometimes I just want to scream and shout out my frustrations with Whiz and Grimm too. Good to hear that I'm not alone.

I've been a Cardinal fan since at least the fifties and I absolutely do not share your admiration for Whiz. You are too young to remember the great Cardinal teams with Charlie Trippi, Elmer Angsman and Paul Christman. You also probably don't remember Ollie Matson.

Itwas very exciting to see the Cardinals beat the Bears in old Comiskey Park.

To mention, Trippi, Angsman and Christman while ignoring the 4th member of the Dream Backfield (Pat Harder*) is just short of heracy.

* In addition to playing FB, Harder also kicked XP's and FG's.

Most of this is typical Mitch fantasy, filled with conjecture and just plain opinions coming from Massachusetts!

I love you Mitch, but you can be way off and target plays for your love or scorn, earned, partially earned, or not. I remember your love fest with Stephen Boyd, and absolute garbage QB that you thought Whisenhunt had big plans for.

I loved how Boyd looked in one pre-season game against us and lobbied for us to give him a shot---why not?

The absolute garbage QB you are referring to is Brian St. Pierre who was virtually just as good as Matt Hasselbeck at BC.

Someone somewhere once thought it would be good to give some no-name guy from Cedar Rapids Iowa a shot---because YOU never know.

I hold out hope for the little guy and I don't label anyone camp fodder.

Personally, I am upset Zach Nash didn't work out. I was hoping we would get lucky at a position where we need help. Nash made a great play last week---which raised my hopes even further.

But--hey--condemn and belittle me all you want. It still isn't going to stop me from expressing my honest feelings. I guess by now that's obvious.

And I'll do the same, which is why I respect you enough to read what you say even though I think you're way off base sometimes....we all are.

I love some of your takes a lot of the time, but I think you've gotten to the point that you can't view Whisenhunt OR John Skelton objective. One can't get right, while the other walks on water. :)

I thought I was pretty clear about being a fan since 1963, made no mention of the 50's! The only era of Cardinal football since 1963 that even compares to Whiz's era was the 3-4 year stretch under Coryell in the 70's. Whiz - 4 playoff wins, Coryell - 0 playoff wins. Nuff said.

Go back & read what I wrote, as your reading comprehension is lacking. The Cardinals still love Whiz & still play their hearts out for him. Talk to me when that changes. Btw, Fitz only re-signed with us because he BELIEVES in Whisenhunt. Otherwise, he'd be elsewhere right now!

Were you at the same game I was? November 24, 1963? Cardinals versus Giants at Yankee Stadium? If you were so was Joe Maddon the manager of the Tampa Bay Rays, who says like I do, that he became a Cardinal fan for life there that day.

I was 8 years old.

What you said is what's so tantalizing for me---it makes me feel ungrateful---but I attribute the winning to the players like Kurt Warner and Fitz who finally made the Cardinals relevant, how dare me? If they love Whisenhunt it's because he runs a soft camp. That's what my instinct says, so I apologize if I am wrong.

I was 5 yrs old growing up in Syracuse, NY. My Dad was a huge St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, but really wasn't a huge NFL fan. College football was huge, but the NFL was lucky to make page 3 of the sports section on Monday mornings. I fell in love watching the Cardinals beat up on the Cowboys in their season opener in 1963. The game was in Dallas & I think the Cardinals won 34-7. My Dad told me to pick a team & that would be our team. I chose the Cardinals. He's in his late 70's & still gives me grief for having picked them to be our team. But, he has been loyal!

You can believe whatever you want about Whisenhunt. But if a coach is to be blamed for losing, then he should be credited for winning also. 2 division titles, 4 playoff wins, an NFC Championship & a SB trip is all I need to know about Whiz as a HC. For decades, I would have cut off limbs to experience that. Warner & Fitz were both here b4 Whiz & we still stunk! If Warner hadn't reneged, we would have had a better chance of finding his replacement. That concussion in the Saints playoff game set this franchise back. The QB position is the only thing holding this team back from going VERY deep into playoffs, but it just isn't an easy task to find a great QB. Just ask about 75% of the teams in the NFL. Until we find that QB, Whiz will settle for ugly wins.

Whis is a QB killer ... I say Haley had much more positive influence on Warner than Whisenhunt.

Why I'm Nuts for Whiz!!

Season Ticket Holder since 1994
12-20, 28-43, 16-32 and 17-40. I'll take 40-40, 4-2 in the playoffs , 2 division titles and an NFC Championship any day. He gets the benefit of the doubt from me until he has back to back losing seasons.

You cant kill someone if they are D.O.A. He sucks at choosing QBs.
That I agree with. The only 2 times Whiz has had a talented QB(Warner and Ben) he has gone to the SB. The guy is a good coach, he just needs to find the right guy.

There aren't any coaches that are going to the SB with the likes of Max Hall, Anderson, and Leinart. Unless, of course, that coach is the greatest coach, and offensive mind, in the history of the NFL, Todd Haley.

I completely agree. What I believe, however, is that he feels his system will work with any QB, and also feels he is a good QB evaluator. Neither of those statements are true.

If this team had someone who could sniff out QB talent and give that guy to Whis, I believe then yes, the system WOULD work.

I thought Fitz only re-signed because he's in love with Kevin Kolb, and we got him.

My thoughts on the matter:

Who has been the best GM/Personnel guy since the Cardinals have been in the Valley? Answer: Dennis Green. It's hard to argue that the core of the Super Bowl team wasn't drafted or signe by Green. But Whisenhunt is a better coach than Green, and his offensive system is far superior. Green failed because of cronyism point blank and his ego; cutting Pete Kendall, signing over the hill players, and bringing in coaches who were buddies but couldn't coach.

Whisenhunt's faults? He makes players earn their jobs to a fault, he's probably not a very good talent evaluator, and he can be stubborn at times.

What are our solutions? 1. Fire Whisenhunt. 2. Improve the personnel department and remove some of (what ever he has) Whisenhunt's personnel power. I prefer option #2, Whisenhunt has proven that if you have the horses to run his system, that he can beat some of the best teams in the league. That's my issue with all this handwringing, so many of the problems with the team right now are talent related.

We don't have a good QB, OTs, OLBs (no elite player). These are constant issues with the team and the only way to fix it is to improve the personnel people making the decisions.

As Joeshmo pointed out the other day, there was quite a bit of shuffling in the front office and the problem may have already been fixed. We'll see...

Whis drives me absolutely nuts, but should not be on the hot seat. He, by ALL RIGHTS should have lost the team last year, but instead they rallied, looked him in the eye and won. He has not lost the team, so we shouldn't lose faith in him.

That does not mean he can't do wrong and doesn't drive me bat **** crazy at least once every game and with his QB machinations. But no hotseat.

Those two viewpoints ARE able to be mutually exclusive.

I disagree. If not for Peterson's four punt returns this team is 4-12 last year. I'm not so sure they rallied as much as got lucky. This year will be a true barometer of not only how good this team is, but also how good of a coach Whisenhunt is and how much his players believe in the system. This team showed a lot of softness, sloppy, heartless play last year and that's something that's been a staple in the Whisenhunt era. It's the 800 pound elephant in the room and we will see how much "moxie" this team has when the defense gets sick of carrying an inept, crap offense week after week.

One of those returns was in the first win and another was in a loss early on.

When the team was 1-6, they absolutely rallied. They were about to pack it in and had every reason to, yet they played tougher and harder and did not get lucky. They PLAYED better. Whis didn't lose the team and that flat out shocked me. I respect it.
