I have Qwest internet and going to go Wi-Fi in my house. My question is, Qwest told me I should buy the router from them but I was wondering if I would be better off to go to a place like Best Buy and buy a different brand? Can anyone recommend a good router?

Actually for the money the higher end Linksys stuff is good, it's their base cheaper models that are crap IMO.

My older one was dropping signals all the time, the new one is like a rock, haven't had any problems with it great signal all over my house etc.

Linksys was purchased by Cisco.

The newer stuff is much better.

If Qwest is installing one of the 2Wire devices then maybe go with that. If they are just using the ActionTech modem then I prefer putting that in bridge mode and using another router/NAT/Firewall.

D-link, Netgear, and Linksys by Cisco are all fine for home use.

I can tell you right now that the equipment provided by the provider is almost always crap. Even Cox has been a mixed bag. For example I have had both Motorola Surf board modems and some generic modems provided by them. The last one was a generic piece of crap so I went out and bought my own.

I would ask them what brand router they will carry and install. If its something you have never heard of run for the hills and go buy your own. I also prefer Linksys.
