Just saw he was signed by the Cardinals....and they used the rest of the rookie pool to do it!

Cap gurus, what is the Cap status of the other teams.

Who can afford him vs who might want him

And cut Nate Dwyer for a fat, underachieving glob of goo? You're crazy! Besides, if the Cards thought he was any good, the deal would be done already.

If Graves does call him, then signing Wilkinson is the best idea ever.

(I've got my bases covered for both sides of the argument! :D )

Do we have to wait until he clears waivers to sign him to a different deal? He isn't worth the amount he is currently making coming off the year he had last year. From that standpoint, I agree with the skins. If we can sign him to the vet minimum though....

He has to clear waivers, or we assume his salary. For one year, considering we have to eat up at least 3mil more in cap space, we might do it. Is he in the last year of his deal or not?

CLAIM HIM OFF WAIVERS --

the one thing this team has is cap room -- today, next year, etc. take his $3.5 mm contract and get him into camp

If he cant cut it during the preseason, cut him and move on

He could be the big lane clogger at d tackle this team needs

I am tired of this team looking at players who are better than ones currently on the roster and concluding that they dont fit -- like cap room is tight or something

A lot of playoff teams have cap room. We'd have to claim him off of waivers to garauntee him. And why not? We have the space!

OK we won't get him for the vet minimum, but I don't think he is worth his current salary.

Not sure.

In '99 he returned an interception 88 yards. Classic.

Actuallyyes has to clear waivers. The waiver is basicaly means if you pick him up, you also pick up his current salary terms. if you wait til he clears waivers you can then sign him to any contract terms you and his agent can agree to.

If the Cards want him, there best option is to claim him and overpay him on this years contract.

But we have tons of cap room, and we haven't even spent the minimum!

We won't be able to get him for the minimum...

yeah but if we stay this far under the cap we're going to get fined. So spending extra money might actually work this one time.

I'd claim him now.

Was he injured last year? Why the huge dropoff in his stats? If he can play at the form he did up until last year, then I think you make a move to sign him. Put him next to Bryant with Pace and KVB outside and all of a sudden, you have something going there.

I agree, minimum is unlikely since given his past play he seems like he would garner some interest and thus possibly a bidding war.

A couple of thoughts/concerns -

1. This looks like one of those "opportunities" Graves says the Cardinals are now structured cap-wise to take advantage of - so leap on it!

2. Does anyone know if the team doing the waiving can retrieve the player from waivers? (i.e. could the Skins be dangling him out there to see if there's interest and then pull him back in hoping to work out a trade?)

3. Finally, what kind of citizen is Wilkinson? Does he come without baggage? Is there any risk he'd come out to the Valley for the golf (and of course the food) - but not necessarily to play serious football? (Note - It's a good sign that he's been standing on the sidelines at Redskins practice chomping at the bit to get out there and help his teammates).

My inclination is to get more excited about the possiblity of bringing Wilkinson in here than I felt about Colvin or Holliday. Since the days of a healthy (& willing) Swann and Smitty (and with little depth behind them may I add), I've cringed at our sucky production at DT. Right now I'm getting a nice warm feeling about Bryant, Bell and the new guy Atoe inside on D-Line. If Wilkinson is as good as his billings, we'd have finally fixed what's been broke for once and for all if we can sign him.

If the Cards REALLY want him then I agree. This is the best way to ensure they get him. Is this the last year of his contract? If not, what does the rest look like?
