Don't know, he gets 3.5 million this year. The reason he was sitting out is if they let him practice and he got hurt, he could not be cut.

Washington post said he had a wrist injury all last year and then tore a calf muscle in the Dallas game which ended his season last year.

Unless that salary gets HUGE in the near future it's worth a gamble, we can always release him next year.

How does any signing bonus he received work? The Cards wouldn't be on the hgook for it capwise right?

Even if the salary does go way up, couldn't the Cards simply cut him with no cap issues if WAS is on the hook for the signing bonus?

Im pretty certain that is correct CB!

The signing bonus is never carried over as far as I know thats the responsibility of the original team. Thats why you see players salaries on teams as a cap hit even though they dont play for them anymore.

It appears as though Ted Washington is looking good in Chicago coming off the leg, and Keith Traylor is coming along a little slower.
It makes a signing like Wilkinson that much more of a good idea.

That being said, I don't think they'll even call him.

What he said, yeah the bonus stays with Washington. The Post says they clear 3.5 million by cutting him and were only need 2 million for rookies so they didn't need the cap room. I would surmise the reason they want it is to sign Champ Bailey or something similar but typically when you do that you actually REDUCE the current year caphit?

Basically I get the impression they were going to cut him anyways because they felt he wasn't cooperating.

I don't think he's the missing link to the Superbowl of course but he's better than most of the DL's on our roster if he's in shape.

You are most likely 100% correct!

We are all pretty much getting excited for nothing come to think of it :(

Sadly, I think this is the most likely scenario.

We have an open roster spot, we need more competition at DT. This almost makes too much sense.

It's different if you pick him up of waivers, which sounds like a good idea to me right now.

In that case I'm pretty sure we eat the whole meal for this years cost, salary and pro-rated SB. The skins would get the cap relief.

If he clears waivers, it's the Skins problem.

I have a call into Skorp to see if he can get any information about this.

Don't hold your breath

Russ is correct. The Skins eat the rest of the bonus. We only pick up salary, which means he could be cut with no cap hit at any time.

Is there a waiver order????

Meaning other teams have first chance to pick him up off waivers or is it first come first serve?????

I think so, I think it goes in reverse order of the previous years record so that means the Cards are in position to get him.

Yes, the team with the worst record gets him. Unless someone, say Cincy, has already picked someone off of waivers. Then they are at the end of the line.

It's just like the draft order, so we'd be sixth. I think the most likely to pick him up would be Cincy, that is if Lewis liked him as a player.

Thanks for the insight aj!

nidan poses a good question. I wonder if they can afford him?

Additional question is how to find out how much space they actually have? With all these bonuses etc, is there a reliable salary cap number out there we can find?

I would say, Cincy, Detroit and Houston could all conceivably go after him. I doubt Chicago would but then Dallas could make a run.

We should claim him off waivers. Or at least call/contact him. He'd help this defense tremendously. PLEASE do this. This is the mystical 'opportunity' we've been hearing about. Take it.

Im a kool-aid drinker and I still have no faith that we will claim this guy off waivers if given the chance. I thought we should have given M Rob a contract offer too but you see where that got us :(
