If he's can't make the starting lineup, then he's either out on waivers or he can play with a re-negiotaded reduced salary contract in the rotation.
I doubt they'll pick him up on waivers. The team that picks him up also picks up his contract. This doesn't matter for us, since we got the cap room, but it would matter for 27 teams in the league. Only the Vikings, Saints, Texans, Eagles and us have enough cap room to pick his existing contract. And they are probably the only teams that can sign him anyway, so why claim him?
Wilkinson wants garanteed money, because if he was content with a incentive-ladden contract, he would have taken the Redskin offer. The only teams that have enough cap room to sign him to a contract with garanteed money are the same five teams. My guess is that the Saints and us are the only teams in the league with both the interest and money to sign him.
I think Wilkinson be be a great addition to this team, because we lack Run-stuffing DTs and Graves should sign him as soon as he clear waivers. The contract? Simular the the new deal Norman Hand got in Seattle. I think it was something like this: A back-loaded two year deal with only a $200.000 SB. $1.8M base the first year and $2.4M base the second year. So the team would be paying him $2M (including the SB) the first year and if he indeed has lost a step he can be released with only a $100.000 cap hit. Seems fair to me...
