What is the difference between "retool" and "rebuild"? Semantics?

No headcoach has the time to rebuild, especially an unknown, unless your name is Belichek

Keim's been beating that retool not rebuild drum ever since he took over as GM.

Which makes sense, when you have multiple pro bowlers in their prime on defense, and one of the best running backs in the league. And a Hall of Fame WR (for now).

Coachspeak - Obligatory statement. New guy had to say it.

(Never in all my life have I heard a coach say: "Hey, we suck. So I'm going to tear up the entire roster and flush it down the nearest sewer").

I can think of plenty of examples of where that’s been said in some ways. Hell, Hue Jackson two years ago: “We understand where the Cleveland Browns are. We know there is a lot of work to do. There are a lot of things that we need to do to get there.”

Meh. We're in a 1/2 rebuild. The entire offense needs blown up and re-done. We need a QBOF (not to mention backups), almost an entire WR corps, and almost an entire new OL. That is a 100 percent re-build.

If we do the 'patch the hole at QB with a short-term vet' without going after a QBOF, I'll thrown the entire organization under a bus.

Otherwise, curious and cautiously excited to see what will happen on D.

Even he didn't rebuild. Bledsoe, Glenn, Brown, Bruschi, Law, McGinnist, Malloy, and others were already there. He came in and added a few players that put them over the top. He's continued this philosophy ever since.

Rebuild is completely blow it up and start over. Retool is when your current QB is a tool like sCam Newton, and you replace him with another tool, like Jay Cutler.

Plenty of changes coming regardless of the label you want to put on the process. I think the 'retool' language is to calm the vets on the roster who are probably very anxious for theirjob security and how they are going to survive in their NFL careers.

BASK churned the roster over with literally hundreds of players (especially at the bottom of the roster and on the practice squad).

The one thing many of our vets had over new additions is that they were familiar with the system (both D and O players). A new coaching staff is going to blow that up and now the players are all starting from square one. Look for some old Panthers to show up on the roster and win spots from old Cardinals. A slower guy who knows the old system is not going to necessarily beat out a new guy when both are learning a new playbook. Look for some favorites to get a real challenge---will HB be able to keep his job or will he recover his quickness? Will PP continue to play touch football with a designated WR or will he be required to be a complete defensive back? Will Larry find a spot now that his 'Hines Ward' role in BA's offense is probably out of the playbook.

Lot's of good question for the upcoming retool/rebuild---or roster makeover.

I imagine "Cardinals' decisions" will continue to be the modus operandi. Having an experienced OC and play caller with a defensive minded HC is smart.

Much more eloquently said.
