This may not have been a playoff-caliber roster, but the talent on it is far better than 3-13. Wilks contributed nothing to this team.
We may not be the browns, but the top pick, & waiver priority along with Chandler, PatP, Budda, DJ, & Rosen make us next best IMO.

If Wilks is telling his staff he is being fired but hasn’t spoken to Michael Bidwill he either was told latelast night or early this morning by Steve Keim that he was being dismissed. Wilks said after the game he had yet to speak to either Bidwill or Keim about his status
He also said numerous other things during the season he had no idea about as well like Pat P wanting out.

Either Wilks has CTE or he doesn’t handle the truth very well.

Well..... He did say that hiring him was the best decision Bidwill made.

And he did say that our O-Line was the strength of our team.

And he did say he brought in people who were teachers..... With the right DNA.

and for that...... You sir.... Are chopped.

Between Wilks and Rosen with his 9 (or was it 3) 2018 draft mistakes, the Cardinals had the Mohammed Ali and Joe Namath of braggarts without the same results.

Cardinals job is attractive. Talented young QB. Important pieces in place on defense. 1st pick in draft, priority in waivers, $65 mil cap space. And improving on 3-13 year one shouldn’t be hard
Except for Jason La Canfora, many would agree I suspect. But it is not more attractive than Cleveland. Tampa Bay has to be near the bottom.

Too bad. He was a nice guy not given a fair shot because the team was just plain awful....though he was overmatched many a time. I wish him all the best.

I don't know how people can say this. This roster went 8-8 last season with Blaine Gabbert and Drew Stanton starting a number of games. Wilks didn't need to make the playoffs this year, but he managed to turn a .500 roster into the worst team in the league and a historically bad offense.

Who would have thought that bricks don’t make a good foundation?

People were so mad when I called Wilks out on that. Many smart people on this board.

This may not have been a playoff-caliber roster, but the talent on it is far better than 3-13. Wilks contributed nothing to this team.

Yes. The 0-16 Browns had a -176 point differential. The 0-16 Lions had a -249 point differential. The 3-13 Cardinals had a -200 point differential.

Hot commodity for DC?

Have other teams watched our team D this year?
Yeah, Wilks could not fix secondary miscommunications that burned the Cardinals all year and refused to do play calling, yeah, he is gonna fix some defense for a new team?

Fire a coach after one year? What an epic, miserable, shameful fail. Shame on you Mikey and Stevie. You both better skip cocktail hour today.

Greatest man-made disasters in human history:

1. The Titanic
2. The Hindenburg
3. The Cardinal's process for hiring its coach for the 2018 season.

(spits on the ground).

Defensive players were literally running into each other pre-snap. In Week 17.

And that isn't where we had a ton of turnover due to injury. You can sort of excuse the OL, nobody expected any of them to start (except Cole), you expected a sh t show there but the defensive secondary, with a coach that built his rep on coaching defensive backs? Ugh

Good day to be off work and watching ESPN, UCLA fires Alford and Cards fire Wilks on same day

OT but Alford is not someone I'd like to spend a lot of time with. When he coached the Lobos I played golf with him a few times. Part of his benefits included a membership at the same country club I belong to. You'd have thought he owned the place. Hey, I get it, you have to have a strong personality to be a head coach, but you don't have to treat other people like peasants. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! Adios!

so many things made this necessary, but the terrible defense was the issue

we saw yesterday how a good defense and inspired special teams can keep a bad offensive team in games

had the team gotten that for 16 games (heck -- even 12 games) -- I think Wilks would have survived

but instead we got the 32nd ranked rushing defense, in part due to an commitment to play this weird 4-2-5 light defense even when offenses came out with two TEs ---

compounded by horrific coverage busts in the passing game at the worst moments. Giving up a coverage bust in the first half yesterday on maybe a formation they hadn't seen is one thing: doing it AGAIN (same formation!) with the game on the line in Q4 makes my head explode

There is an old story about him coaching at Iowa, he was in some store and loaded up a cart with items, and then walked out without paying. Someone stopped him and he said don't you know who I am, I'm Steve Alford the coach at Iowa. He apparently expected them to give him free stuff, and was offended they told him he had to pay.

I gave him a chance at UCLA I really did but like Wilks, he didn't get it done. Obviously Wilks failure was on a whole other level of failure.

I wish him well. He is a class act that wasn't ready to be a head coach.

The fiasco at the end of the first half epitomized his lack of game management skills. I was screaming at the TV to kick
the field goal on third down with 11 seconds left. Instead he allows his rookie QB to screw it up. :bang:

You weren't the only one. If there were any nails left, then that was the final one in his coffin.
