He said it was the funniest thread ever & that we may set records for points against. I called him out on it. Nothing he hasn't done to me multiple times.

yup. difference is I can actually admit when I was wrong.

Why don't you just ignore these Toddler Kings? It makes the world a better place.

Calling us Toddler Kings makes the board a better place...

I mean, do you even comprehend the irony of accusing us of being children while you're calling us names?

Well I thought I’d bring this thread back...So what do you think? Did a win in GB save his job?

Another meaningless win or two down the stretch may convince ownership that everything is headed in the right direction.

As much as I continue to hope for change I’m still skeptical MB will do anything after 1 season.

In the grand scheme of things, we would have been better off losing. This offense is offensive. I love winning, Wilks is delaying the inevitable.

i think a combo of today's win and a likely win next week let's Bidwill sell the BS that WilKeim deserve another year so he doesn't have to eat two multi-million dollar contracts on Jan. 1.

it shouldn't, but I think it will.

Probably, its easier for MB to tell SK to just fix it or both will be gone in 19'. I guess I am ok with giving Wilks and SK one more year with a bunch of cap space to fix it. If we struggle next season, you need to jettison both. I'm still ok with axing SK and Wilks if MB wants to go in that direction, however.

wins at the end vs a GB team that had decided they had enough of McCarthy / maybe wins vs Detroit, and a suddenly bad Atlanta team would give the illusion that the team is getting better and likely save Wilks

however, even with a win vs Detroit -- if they are uncompetitive in the final three -- i think Wilks goes

I've said it before that I never thought his job was in jeopardy. The Cardinals have never fired a first year head coach. Wilks will be given another season to right the ship.

The only way Wilks saves his job this season is to string along a bunch of wins and looks exponentially more competitive. If he somehow finishes 6-10, I could see a situation in which Wilks is retrained.

i actually think that 4-12 will do it. If they beat the Lions and keep it within 14 points on the road with the Falcons, I think they'll say 4-12 and the team was kept together through the growing pains... etc., etc.

30-point beatdowns against the Rams and Seahawks could change that equation, tho.

I don't know enough about the inner-workings of the Cardinals to offer an opinion about front office chemistry, how Michael B feels about his HC or GM or where he stands on the ease or reluctance to make coaching changes (i.e. at the end of last season, there was no way I could see BA exiting the Cardinals).

Anything can happen. Heck! Most NFL owners are rich guys who are used to doing anything they want. (& then when they do it, they don't give you a credible reason for doing it anyway).

So like I said...We don't know - we'll just have to wait and see.

You’re probably right, and that doesn’t make me feel good. Wilks just doesn’t get it.

Blech

Historically, the Cards just do NOT, as in ever, fire coaches after one year with multiple years on contract left.

Cannot believe this has gotten so much discussion. Just look at history. It does NOT happen.

I hope to heck this doesn't save jobs.

Yes, I will admit, when I thought of the 2018 Cardinals, I was thinking this is the type of games we would see, and this is the type of win we would see.

But, there is a reason McCarthy got fired.

And do you look past the massive ineptitude in coaching and player personnel moves because the Cardinals poked the last hole in a sinking ship ?

What if the FG by Crosby goes through ?

What coach warranted firing after one year? BA improved from 5-11 to 10-6, Whiz 8-8 from 5-11, Green 6-10 from 4-12, McGinnis (first full year as HC) 7-9 from 3-13, Tobin 7-9 from 4-12, Ryan 8-8 from 7-9? Maybe Bugel who didn't improve in his first year 5-11 from 5-11. After one year as HC going 4-8 in 1953 Joe Kuharich wasn't back in 1954 maybe he was fired? Cant find anything saying why he left.

Nothing has ever happened before — until it does. Doesn't mean that it CAN'T happen; just that it hasn't happened yet.

Joe Bugel went 5-11 his first year, outperformed their exected wins and went 3-3 in the last 6 games.
Buddy Ryan went 8-8.
Vince Tobin went 7-9.
Dave McGinnis went 7-9.
Denny Green went 6-10.
Whis went 8-8.

Here are the last 4 teams that won 4 or fewer games with the Cards:

Vince Tobin, 2000 - Fired in-season
Dave McGinnis, 2003 - Fired after season.

Whisenhunt and Denny Green were fired at the end of 5-11 seasons that maybe weren't as bad as this one.

Agreed...there is a first time for everything but all of those coaches had a few years of coaching opportunity and were on the decline.

For a new employee to get fired this quickly, there has to be significant evidence of uncorrectable incompetence. We have certainly sucked this year but admitting to a colossal failure in the hiring process and having a rookie QB, horrible OL, and general lack of talent is not going to get Wilks fired this year unless there is something else going on behind the scenes.

There are 4 games left. I think MB has not yet made up his mind; how the team does will decide the fate of Wilks. IMO the Packer win is not the deciding factor.

If the Cardinals are going to fire Wilks, and I think they should, it is better to do sooner rather than later.

The Journal Sentinel reported that the Packers made the move now in part to “get a jump on identifying and researching potential candidates.” There is speculation the Packers will be interested in Fitzpatrick, Northwestern's coach. The Cardinals were late in picking a new head coach at the beginning of this season and it probably reduced the number of potential quality candidates.

I feel badly for Steve Wilks. He seems like a very nice man who got a rotten deal. There are growing pains that come with being a rookie head coach - maybe he should get another chance for 2019?

Don't @ me Chopper :)

No, he shouldn't.

Steve Wilks has to understand that his actual mindset is a mindset set up to fail. in the NFL (Not for long) no system works for ethernety if you don't adapt it to what your players can do best.

He isn't ready yet for a HC job. The Cards have still a 3-4 D personell and putting them in a 4-3 and 4-2 setting ... ist just beyond ... this is why you lose.

He may be ready to be a HC in 2-4 years, but not yet.

If you think of Bowles, he is on the same verge, he needs a reset and needs to understand that he has to understand the offensive side better, he got the timemanagment down and many other things but the offensive side and the ST ... is sometimes a desaster.

Steve Wilks wasn't ready to be a HC and it shows and the Cardinals should react to this, else you will have many players that quit after 3-5 games and your QBoF is damaged goods and you have a Gabbert instead of a Rivers or even worse ... a Carr instead of a Brady. (and no not the Raiders Carr...)

I suspect that SW, his staff and SK will get another year. I just don't think MB has it in him to go after a shiny new wunderkind and lay out the $$$$ it would take. He just doesn't seem to have the cajones to do that.

My god, how long did they take to finally grab Wilks? Their process of hiring coaches, especially the last two, has been bizarre. They lucked out with BA, perhaps, but did not catch lightning in the bottle a second time. Perhaps this is not as attractive a job as some would like to think, it's still the Cardinals.

Another year of the same coming up I am afraid.
