Ah the smell of spring...

We have spring time rains...

We have spring training...

And we have hope springing...that the Cardinals will actually remake their roster into something that resembles a quality NFL team...

So, will things change...or are we just fooling ourselves again?

For my part, I don't think anything will really change. Oh we will probably sign a couple mid level guys and we will be awfully happy about it...but I don't see us dropping the big bucks on a marquee guy.

So what's your point?

Are you criticising? condemning? complaining? approving? or just excercising your fingers on the keyboard?

I might be in the minority here, but I don't think we need a marquee guy. At least not through free agency. It seems like every time we break down and spend big bucks on a guy, he either gets injured or retires while he's still playing.

Let's make our own marquee guys. Take some of these guys with "potential" we already have on the team (or through the draft) and coach them up to their potential. Then we'll have our marquee guys without spending all the bucks.

The Pats and the Panthers didn't make anyone sit up and go "Wow!" with the free agent deals they've made the last few years. Getting good football players that help you win is the most important thing, not how much money you throw out there.

I am perplexed at how a longtime poster and admin could actually misspell "Bidwill".

That to me is mindboggling. :D

(1) Panthers picked up a probowl OT in Steussie. And a probowl level RB in Davis.

Pats picked up probowl type players in Harrison Colvin Washington.

You need to add QUALITY FAs.

(2) It seems to me that the Cards have shown they are willing to add FAs: E Smith Starks (some bad luck) Jackson F Jones the FB OLineman etc but the moves haven't worked out all that well. Before arriving here I hadn't realized how many FA the cards had added (other then Starks Jackson)

Maybe that will change and the FAs will work out now with a bit of luck and better player personnel guy at the helm.

(3) It sounds like DG wants to add younger quality FAs. There is no way DG would have signed on here unless there was a willingness to sign quality players. At the end of the day a good coach can only do so much. DG teams did achieve in Minn due to coaching but he also had some key quality players.

LOL, I had been awake for 36 hours. I am amazed I could type at all this morning :D

My apologies, I guess I was just spelling things phonetically.

Anyway to answer Tango's question, I was interested to see just how optomistic everyone is on the Cardinals this spring.

I definitely believe we need top tier players on this team to take the next step.

Despite my belief that McClown will be the next in line of bad Cardinal QBs...if anyone can make him into a player it is Dennis Green. So if that is the case...

It would be in the realm of possibility that if we act decisively and remake this defense, the Cardinals would be the "suprise" team of the NFL.

Chris:

What were Duane Starks and Dexter Jackson? We outbid Oakland for Starks and Pittsburgh for Jackson.

They were impact guys for sure...but both were signed well into the free agency period.

It just seems to me that people think we are going to go sign a big named guy right off and that isn't our history UNTIL this point.

Hope it changes. I would love to see the Cardinals make sure that no one leaves without a contract offer on the table. I would like to see us sign someone before his agent can decide we make good leverage.

I am hoping that the coaching will help.

So it appears to me that you are saying skill assesment of underachievers, the ability to sign those chosen few, and the coach that a player would die for will take us to the promised land of post season or even the SB? Are Denny and Rod the guys to do it? I sure hope so, I really like both of them.
