I know Fitz is currently #11, but he's made several comments that he won't get comfortable until he makes the team and gets a new number (or something to that effect).

I would like to order a Fitz jersey, but I would be a little disappointed if I get #11 and he turns out to be #89!!

I don't think he will go with #89 since #11 is the closest number to his #1 college jersey number.

Well obviously he wouldn't change numbers until some player who currently holds a number in the 80s is cut. Candidates would have to include McAddley, Kasper, Gilmore, and Poole. 88 is retired.

i read the same comments. i'll bet he changes number. what number? that's a good question. obviously he can't get 81 (close to his #1 in college number) 'cuz quan owns that. 82? that would be a good number. harkens me back to the days of john taylor serving as the perfect #2 compliment to jerry rice. 83? i think that number sucks. as does 84 (though thoughts of gary clark dance through my head). 85 is taken by freddy. 86 is nondescript. 87 is okay. 88 would be great. conjure up thoughts of al toon. yeah. i think fitz should be 88. case closed. next!

Boldin wears #81. I think that if we release any WRs after training camp (and you know we will), Fitz is going to have to change numbers, because I think that the rule is that you have to have all the 80s numbers taken before you can take the teens (Besides the Keyshawn exemption). It'd be cool if Fitz took #82 (presently Kasper's number). Then the starting WRs would line up #81, #82, #83.

I agree - 88 or 80 when McAddley gets cut - who the hell wears 88 on this team right now?

number 11 just sucks IMO - it's the only thing wrong with the enitre offseason IMO. IMO.

They changes that rule this year. He can have a number in the teens.
84 rocks.

oh - who has 88? I always wodnered why I had nver seen a player with that number - then in that case he should be 80 - all the other WR numbers blow.

Even then, #11 blows, he apparently want's a real WR number. I think that #82 is way tight. #80 is cool, too, though. I just like the idea of consecutive numbers.

I like teen numbers. Moss being denied 18 with Meyshawn getting 19 always stuck in my craw.

I would have to say the odds are #80, #82, or #89. I like #88, but it is retired.

Maybe Banks should get a new number as a tight end and give 84 to Fitzgerald.

80 McAddley, Jason WR 6-2 200 Alabama
81 Boldin, Anquan WR 6-1 220 Florida State
82 Kasper, Kevin WR 6-1 202 Iowa
83 Johnson, Bryant WR 6-2 214 Penn State
84 Banks, Mike TE 6-4 256 Iowa State
85 Jones, Freddie TE 6-4 265 North Carolina
86 Gilmore, Bryan WR 6-0 194 Midwestern (Texas) State
87 Bush, Steve TE 6-3 262 Arizona State
88 RETIRED, JV Cain #88 had his number retired after his untimely death in 1979 on the practice field.
89 Poole, Nathan WR 6-2 204 Marshall

Interesting Fact: Cardinals retired numbers are:

8 Larry Wilson
40 Pat Tillman
77 Stan Mauldin
88 J.V. Cain
99 Marshall Goldberg

The Bears have 13 retired numbers. If they retire a few more, they will have to introduce 00 and 10A, 10B, etc.

I remember Jim O saying something about players purchasing numbers that they want. I think that Emmitt Smith tossed some cash Starks's way for giving up #22.

I'm pretty sure that Fitz will have all the money he'll need to get whatever number he wants when he reports to Flag.

I highly doubt that Fitz will change his #11 to #84 since he wants a 1 on his jersey and I don't think Quan will give up his jersey. Unless we can have #81A and #81B

Are you certain? He's wearing #11 now, and, though I couldn't find it, I know that he mentioned getting his "real" number.
That's what's leading to this "it's not going to be #11 forever" speculation. Try and follow along here.

I am following along kerouc. I did read somewhere he wants a #1 with his jersey since his college number is #1

Well, so was Anquan's. What do you want from me? Apparently, he doesn't like #11. He can't have #81. It's against the rules for him to wear #1, and besides, it'd look stupid. Perhaps someone should just lock this thread.

What number do you think he'll wear?

I'm not saying he wants a #1 jersey. What I meant is he wants a jersey that has a 1 in the end, I'm not saying he wants a #1 jersey. Sheesh

Maybe Q will wear #84 (pissing off a TON of fans, I'm sure) and Fitz will take #81. I have no idea. What are you trying to add to this discussion, AzDad?

That he'll remain #11. If I'm wrong I'll buy you a beer when we face the Pats.
