What does this do to Shipp??

James has now been signed. Arrington no doubt will stay on the team as James backup. What about Shipp? He will make $1.8 million this year, we could save $1.4 by cutting him (I think). Its nice to have depth but realistically that is a lot for a 3rd rb. Should we keep or cut him??

Unfornately, Shipp, who is one of my favorites on this team, will most likely be cut.

I would like to say thanks to Marcel. NJ still loves you.

I see no reason to cut him unless we need to make another big signing and need the cap space. Othe rthen that 3 RBs is not out of the norm and Femi as a FB.

I agree. Shipp is tailor made to be a backup for the likes of James.

who knows. shipp could be looking for another team as we speak. if the cardinals draft a back, then all is certain he on his way out.

I think it hurts him. Early in his career he helped out on Special teams. Now he could possibly be our 3rd RB, and offer not return or kick coverage abilities. He also isn't the short yardage guy the team (hopefully) still is looking for. He will have to prove his is valuable in ways other than getting half the carries to help the team and not get cut.

I think we will give him another chance. Green likes him because of how he came into the NFL and because of how he came back from injury to play again.

The problem we have with Arrington is that he did not endear himself to many last year with his ability to go down very easy. I could see Shipp getting cut, but I can also see Arrington being traded at some point.

Shipp's making way too much money for a third string RB. Money that could be used elsewhere.

I agree. But we have to use it elsewhere before its necessary to cut him. If it brings us a nother good FA then Im all for it. If not who cares.

Just like Davis' contract. Unless we need the money, why push the cap hit back by restructuring it?

But I can see the drafting of a bruiser or return guy to take Shipp's spot.

Think about it....currently we have James, Arrington, Shipp, Anderson, and Jackson on the RB depth chart....We are gonna keep 3 minimum and Arrington and James arent going anywhere. So who is left? Shipp, Jackson, and Anderson.

I guess the telling sign is that the #3 RB on the depth chart needs to play ST as well. That gives Anderson a leg up but didnt Shipp return Kickoffs his rookie year for a while? Would he or the Cards even consider it given that as a runner he is still much better than Jackson and Anderson.

The way I see it Jackson is gone bye bye....Shipp and Anderson will be competing for the #3 spot.....Mr Shipp, if you want a job, you better get out there and learn to cover punts and kickoffs!

You are forgetting JR Redmond. He can play on ST's and be a serviceable back-up RB. That is of course if he has recovered from his injury.

I really don't believe Shipp will be our kick returner. I would have to think he is gone. We can't pay him that much to be the #3 back and if we were willing to spend that much we need someone for short yardage situations. Shipp doesn't fit the bill.

I realize it may be a futile search for perfection, but ideally, I'd like to see us 2-deep in starting talent at every position - RB in particular because of the pounding they take.

Having Shipp as Edgerrin's big back backup with Arrington (who ironically weighs the same as James) available for 3rd down spot duty and Anderson to provide veteran depth makes sense to me. The only way I'd jettison Shipp or Anderson would be if we had a suitable replacement who was equal or better.

He is not under contract and we havent signed him either. Im almost certain he was signed to a one year tender last season.

The problem is Shipp has done nothing to prove he is an effective short yardage guy, so what good is keeping him? We need a power guy, but Shipp isn't it.

Redmond is a UFA, probably won't be re-signed.

Isn't Jackson also a free agent? Regardless, he didn't play hardly at all last year.

I do not either as we still will need another RB. You can never have to many RB as they get injured as much as any player on a team.
