The Cards' mouthpieces aren't putting Washington's name out there on accident. Last week during Urban's chat he didn't really know any of the prospects. Now him and Wolfley are enamoured with Washington? That's no accident.

I love Daryl Washington as a 3rd round pick. I'm satisfied with him as a second round pick. But at 26th overall? It's terrible. If we're picking Daryl Washington 26th overall, it means that we're passing on 10-20 value players who are objectively better prospects than him, but aren't at positions of need.

Well its only been Urban thats really been saying anything about Washington and Wolf has just jumped on the bandwagon a little bit, although he hasnt been saying much about Washington at all.

I agree with you on where Washington should be drafted but you and i both no there is no way he should last till the third. He is more likely to go first then he is to go third. Because of this i would expect him to be drafted in the upper second round and therefore i would like us to trade down into one of those spots if we believe he is the best player we can take that still fills a need. You've got to remember that value takes into account both BPA and POS and therefore if you feel that any of the remaining top players available at #26 arent in position of need at all then i would much rather see us trade down get a good player in the second and pick up more picks to get even more value from the draft then take a RB for example. I know that is a bit of an extreme but i know you'll see the point.

Here are the players that I would take ahead of Daryl Washington at #26 overall, without thinking twice:

Jared Odrick, DT, Penn St.
Charles Brown, OT, Southern Cal
Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers
Kareem Jackson, CB, Oklahoma
Jerry Hughes, OLB, Texas Christian
Rob Gronkowski, TE, Arizona (that's right)

IMO, OT, CB, OLB, and TE all represent "secondary" needs that would be addressed with more talented prospects at 26th overall. To me, the gap between Daryl Washington and Sean Lee isn't so great that it's worth reaching above players who will have a greater impact more quickly. If you want to trade up from 58 and get Washington, that's fine. But I don't see that much separation between Washington, Lee, or even Navarro Bowman that would make me pull the trigger on the Horned Frog in the late 1st round.

I can see the logic in most of those guys but there is NO WAY you take Rob Gronkowski at #26. That would be a huge risk and a gamble you cannnot afford to take at #26. The guy hasnt played in almost over a year and his back is so fragile that you cannot put that much faith into it that you gamble your most valuable pick on him. I can see a team with multilple second round picks taking a flyer with one of their multiple picks there i.e. the Patriots but i dont see him taken in the first.

Ive never said we should take Washington in the first but im advocating trading down if there is nothing better, all the other guys you've listed are near the top of their positional rankings and are in a position of need for us so it would be logical we take them. I can only see one of those cornerbacks falling to us out of that list and even then i can see the Cards thinking this draft is deep in good CB's to the extent that they look elsewhere at #26 (including drafting down) in the knowledge that a very good CB is available in the second, third and even fourth.

Think it is more likely the Cards take someone like Dez Bryant if he falls.

WR might not be a big need, but they need a #4 WR and if the best WR falls to them they might have to do it plus Breaston possibly gone next year.

I absolutely think that if McClain, Weatherspoon, and Williams are off the board at #26, the Cards are looking to trade down. But here's the thing about trading down, courtesy of Bill Walsh:

As former 49ers coach Bill Walsh used to remind me before the draft, “We can’t pass, we have to pick someone.” Teams planning to move down must still plan on making the pick — because they might actually have to make it.

I think that the Cards are planning to make the pick of Daryl Washington at #26. If any of the players on my list are available instead, the Cards would be making a huge mistake.

Arbitrarily, I think the odds are 15% we trade up (Williams or McClain fall into the early 20s), 35% we trade down (McClain, Weatherspoon, and Williams are all off the board), and 50% that we don't find a trading partner and reach for Daryl Washington.

This, except they don't take Washington at 26. Or should I say i HOPE they don't take him at 26. There will be better options there......

that we might move up?? Like he did the other day. I've always thought his intentions are pretty transparent. I'm thinking that "extra arrow in the quiver" (ie; 3rd rd. pick) has the draft team thinking....Hmmmm? GO CARDS! :D

My thoughts exactly. And I do think we trade up, but only at the cost of the extra 3 and IF the right guy drops. McClain being at the top of the list.

I'm thinking the same way, red desert, except McClain will be long gone. Trade up to #20 with Houston to take Brandon Graham or Jerry Hughes.

Either that or trade down.

I am now praying that we move back and take all of cleveland's picks. Hopefully Clausen lasts that long.
