Keep in mind, 21 players got more sacks than Dwight Freeney last year, and Freeney got 8...

JJ Watt, K Mack, E Ansah, C Dunlap, Chandler Jones, Whit Mercilus, M Wilkerson, G Atkins, A Donald, V Miller, K Short, Everson Griffen, Mel Ingram, J Peppers, Mike Bennett, Cam Jordan, Robert Ayers, Fletch Cox, Ryan Kerrigan, C Avril, and G McCoy.

Of those players, only JJ Watt, V miller, Ryan Kerrigan, Everson Griffen, Aaron Donald, and Gerald McCoy also had over 8 sacks in 2014.

Also keep in mind that McCoy and Donald are strictly DTs.

So over the past two seasons, only 4 edge players have had over 8 sacks in back to back seasons.

Therein lies the problem.

you may also find a correlation between the consistent edge rushers, .. and their team mates inside also commanding attention on the rush.
getting to the QB is tough but it is even tougher when the offense can throw two or three blockers at you...... build the D-line correctly and the offense is then counting on an TE or RB to block your edge rusher one on one.....and that is what you hope for.

I have thought for a couple years now Dline is the place to draft high, We didn't we brought in FA's and they have shown why they were FA's for the most part very serviceable very solid, but not very explosive. JMO if we keep doing that 3 years from now people will still be talking about our lack of passrush.

This is why with the RDE spot, you really have to overpay in FA if you are drafting late in the first round three years in a row. Too bad another year has come and gone and Steve Keim just can't get himself to settle on the right guy and to offer what to takes to get him signed. So, you are right, the cycle perpetuates itself.

Lol very true only so many draft picks to go around forsure. I'm a huge Keim fan think he does a brillant job of mixing and matching to fill our roster. I just want the best of both worlds this time of year I want a top 5 team which we have with a top 10 draft pick which we don't have, but there are a couple dlineman we have legit shots at drafting late that are very good football players.

What was he supposed to offer to whom Mitch? Just curious because he offered JPP more & he decided to stay home.

I will say that even though I think SK is fantastic he has had 3 yrs to do something long term to get a top notch pass rusher and has only come up with some decent to good bandaids.

That's my point. At some point you have to start looking at guys who can contribute 8 or 9 sacks, and just put them all together. Adding a DE in the draft might be our best option to finding a pass rush this offseason.
I agree. There will be more than a couple when we draft.
