Williams "has it" per Peterson. Shipley the favorite. Gresham hurt.

K9 breaking out the cat o nine tails on his chosen 2016 offseason whipping boy

Exactly. I saw the thread date and thought, "Guessing K9 resurrected this thread to bash on Williams." Was not disappointed.

Powerful arguments in the face of clear video evidence that Brandon Williams is not very good at playing NFL football right now.

Williams still has a long ways to go to be able to start. I did see some improvement from him like looking back for the ball. But he did get roasted on some plays.

Have to hope he can continue to improve or we will need to get a vet either on the waiver wire or trade so he has time to learn.

How many plays did he get roasted on? To me, it didn't seem that he had a bad game, and I saw improvement from Week One to Two. I've seen enough NFL FB to know that even many first rounders take time to become good CB's.

I should have said beat instead of roasted. When he got turned around or WR's got behind him.

With improvement each game, it will take him 237 games to get to adequate.

Guys, he's a rookie. A third round pick. He's played in two preseason games. He played one year of CB in college. So far I'm impressed with his ability to stay with receivers. Now he's got to locate the ball and make plays consistently. I think he looks like he'll get there.

I'm not generally an optimist on this board, but man some of you are in full blown meltdown over this kid.

I think the concern is that he's a rookie CB, that right now in the starter on a legit Suoer Bowl contender. IMO generally that doesn't work to well, even more so for a player who has 2 years experience at his position. I think the concern is legit given those those facts.

I don't think it's not a concern. Mostly addressing the folks that thinks he doesn't have "it" with the paltry info we have on him at this point.

I think to me the concern is the way the Cards have played the last few years, CB's are often on an island and if you get faked out badly or just blow a coverage it's going to be a big gain or a TD. That's the problem I had with Bethel too, too many misses where his guy is going to get a huge gain because there's no help.

Against the Raiders Williams got beaten badly 3 times early in the game, any one of which could have been a big play or a TD if a better throw had been made. He got beat a couple of times badly in the SD game. Now you put that in a regular season game with him going up against good NFL Wr's on every down for 4 quarters and it seems obvious if he plays now like he's played the first 2 games, he's going to get picked on mercilessly and give up some huge plays.

I think he clearly has talent and in time maybe he becomes a really good CB, the concern is him starting now on a team that has a chance to go a long ways. We really need Bethel to get back and play better than he did last year.

+1 At what point has the starting defense looked bad this preseason ? Do we realize that our defense has been playing well, and Mathieu, Rucker, and Kmendiche are not even out there ?

All over a 2 second animated gif.

Here is a gif of Darrelle Revis getting juked out of his shoes, obviously Revis sucks, right ?

Yeah He got juked out of his jock strap by Allen.

I personally don't think Williams is ready to be the starter. I fully expect Bethel to be the starter week 1 against the Patriots.

With that said I'm not totally down on Williams. I have seen some really good things from him as well. He is just so green at this point. He has only played CB for 1 season. That I why I think there is no way they throw him out there at the beginning of the season unless there is nobody else available.
