Game last night they showed Beaston and Williams as starters. So I natually thought Early had his 34th injury, but yet Early played a little later.

So is Williams #3? That would be awesome.

I was thinking Doucet is the "slot" or third receiver...and Williams is a wideout and therefore was really backing up fitzgerald. But..I could be wrong.

I'm a big Doucet guy, but Williams earned his right to be #3. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing him opposite Fitzgerald running as the #2.

Doucet has been hurt the last few games.

I can't see Breaston or Williams playing the slot in 3 Wr's sets because that doesn't play to their strengths. Williams has been spectacular, but I still think Early is #3 at this point.

That's what I thought makes the most sense, and keep Stevie as the slot. It opens up the field with all that speed.

I'll bet Leinart doesn't think that Williams was spectacular last night.

Has Williams played well against other teams' #1 defenses?

Maybe we could see Fitz more in the slot with lots of motion.

No way. You saw what happened to him when he went over the middle. Protect him by keeping him to the outside.

The answer is Williams wide left...Fitz wide right...and Stevie in the slot.

Whiz wants to open up the running game and take the double team off of Fitz?

This is the way he can do it.

Williams is the deep threat the team has need since Whiz arrived.

His presence will force team to play two safeties deep...and thus be loathe to load up the box.

Oh. Fitz is still going to go over the middle...there's no stopping him there, just like at the Super Bowl...the difference is Anderson and Stephen Williams...they will back the safeties off so Fitz can catch and run.

I agree Mitch, but I'm really not sure Stevie B can survive in the slot.

Not to mention at Williams size he could potentially be a very good blocker (moreso than Breaston or Doucet) on the outside runs. Not sure how sound his blocking skills are but he certainly has the physical tools.

Williams was great blocking downfield on the Wright screen pass td against Houston. And in the same game Roberts threw a great block on Smith's td run.

Deep middle is fine, shorter than 10 yards is a recipe for disaster.

What I like about having Fitz and Williams outside, is that it puts a 6'5" down field target across the field from our biggest play maker. That would really put pressure on defenses as far as bracketing Fitz. Add Breaston in the slot, who could be used to push the seam route, pulling safety coverage back and opening up the deep-in route for Fitz, and this could be a tough group to cover.

Now we have to consider that Williams is pretty raw still, but with his size, skill, and relationship with DA, he may bring more of an impact to the passing game than either Breaston or Doucet as a 2nd or 3rd receiving option.

Chopper, are you sure Breaston would do well in the slot? Is he really built for it?

Breaston will not last long in the slot. Doucet has the body to take the pounding Stevie can't...but we will see, if thats whats happens.

If you use Breaston in the slot like Boldin, then no. But, if you use Breaston in the slot and allow him to use his speed up the seams, he could be very productive because having Larry outside forces the defense to cover Breaston with a nickle back or a safety.

The other thing to like about this is that Breaston on a seam route opens up Fitz to run the deep in which he is really good at.

Yeah, I thought the middle routes Q used to do would kill him. Seam routes is a more likely option. Also he could clear out for swings to THT and Beanie.

Thx
